This trope has around 12 wicks, and I found it because somebody decided to Pot Hole to it in their nattery edit about how "The fifth book of A Song of Ice and Fire was terrible!." The description is essentially, "The heroes accomplish something, but then they forgot to save the world" or something like that. However, even with that The Same But More Specific description, all the examples are redundant to Your Princess Is in Another Castle!.

What action should be taken? I think a merge would be good.

Sure, seems like a simple merge.

Back when I created the trope, I asked for help in the YKTTW and Lost & Found if there were any tropes that already covered the "Hey guys, I don't mean to interrupt your reunion, but we still have a bomb to defuse" situations.

It was pointed out that Your Princess Is in Another Castle! is when the audience (Not the characters, in this case) realizes that the story isn't over with.

I admit it's not the most successful or thriving trope out there, but I think there's actually a viable difference between the two.

Looking over both tropes, first thing I notice is that none of the examples overlap and they don't even share the same indexes.

That's a distinction certainly, but it might not such a big one that the tropes wouldn't benefit from being combined. Let's consider whether there would be a meaningful loss from failing to distinguish between the two basic cases:

audience knows the story isn't over but characters don't

and

characters know the job isn't over but audience doesn't

Otherwise, we should probably consider merging these two. The old Not so Fast, Bucko! might have been a better name for such a potential merge, but I'm pretty sure there was a good reason that was dropped.

[up] That reminds me. When I created this trope, Not so Fast, Bucko! still existed, and this one ended up being different from both of them.

I'm thinking the reason why that one was dropped was that it's not exactly something you commonly hear. When I made this one, I wanted a name that wasn't too hard to recognize with. Don't Celebrate Just Yet borders on a stock phrase that people would be able to identify.

Lets see here... I'm not exactly against a merge, but with some of the examples listed, I feel it just wouldn't make as much sense to suddenly correct all the wicks that I have this trope on work pages over to Your Princess Is in Another Castle!. Especially for the Pani Poni Dash example.

Lets see where this goes.

On second thought, I see these as distinct tropes.

Your Princess Is in Another Castle!: The work prolongs the narrative by adding a plot twist.// Don't Celebrate Just Yet: Characters enjoy a reunion or a victory before being reminded that their job is not fully done.

Some examples may overlap, but many will not. With the former trope, there may be no celebration of any kind, excluding audience reactions (e.g. character walks into castle to save princess, character learns princess is in another castle, character leaves castle to find second castle). With the latter trope, there may be no plot twist (e.g. character walks into castle to save princess and defuse bomb, character saves princess and dances in glee, princess reminds him to defuse the bomb.)

But that still doesn't change the fact that Don't Celebrate Just Yet isn't thriving, and that it could easily be merged with Your Princess Is in Another Castle!.

I'm fine with them being separate if we have enough people who think that they're distinct, but we need a few more opinions on the matter first.

As far as I know, "not thriving" isn't grounds for merging. If we want the trope to thrive, merging is the opposite of we must do.

Never mind how well each page is doing alone. The question is - are they the same trope (or sufficiently similar)?
