ohh, I remember that. and then Ultron came back disguised as Omega and crashed Crystal and Quicksilver's marriage. yes, really.

the Inhumans are interesting, but trying to make them mainstream won't work. they're NOT supposed to be like the other heroes, going on public adventures and all. they're in their own world, facing their own threats, and only helping outsiders when fate decides it. this was like, the whole point of their characterization back then, and Marvel seems to have forgotten it today.

however I'm only talking about the classic Inhumans, because Ms Marvel and the others are totally amazing. and that's how it should have been. Nuhumans doing heroic things in New York and whatever and the royal family secretely keeping an eye on them from Attilan. they just work better as mysterious characters doing their own thing, than trying to become mainstream in some complicated politics plot I don't really care about. but no, Marvel has decided to do what they want regardless of previous stuff.

well, I still goddamn think the X-Men are way better when it comes to spreading them into various teams and making them interact with the rest of the heroes.

The latest Captain Marvel has my suspicions raised again.

A Ulysses vision results in the Ultimate successfully preventing a D-List supervillain's powers from reactivating, but in the process of scanning the MacGuffin that would have reignited him, they noticed that not only is there no explanation from how it started powering up again, but there seems to be an external source causing it.

My first concern about Ulysses back when this all started was that his powers aren't predicting the future but causing it. I'm suspicious again.

I still think the only way Ms. Marvel will realize the truth of the visions is if one is about her.

Like I predicted, Hydra Steve will attempt to usurp Hydra from the Red Skull.

Ironic, isn't it? Even literally on the same side, Captain America and Red Skull can never be real allies.

Yeah, that was harsh. Incidentally, I love Cap's new shield. The sharpened point does a great job of symbolically highlighting what's wrong about him. Hydra Cap doesn't look quite right and has a killing implement built into the weapon that is meant to embody him being a defender, not an aggressor.

Yeah, his shield looks more like a sword now, which is some great symbology. What used to be a weapon of defense is now a weapon of offense.

I'll say it again, the Inhuman push isn't going to work if Marvel doesn't redefine what being Inhuman actually means. For 50 years we've had mutants and the X-Men representing the downtrodden, the outcasts with a dodgy but sound analogy to the plight of racial/gender/sexual minorites. The Inhumans, as said before are isolationists that completely removed themselves and owned a slave race. What's the big draw there? The one big Inhuman comic Ms. Marvel barely deals with her being Inhuman or the royal family, she easily could've been a mutant or gotten her powers somewhere else and little would have to change.

And Civil War: X-Men revealed something that stuck out: apparently people are curious about Inhumans and don't care about mutants which makes no sense.

[up]of course it makes sense. inhumans are hip and new and victims of their own genetics.

Today!

Moon Girl #10 was wonderful. I love seeing Ms. Marvel from Lunella's eyes. Seeing her as this cool superhero who knows what she's doing. It's nice. Also, Devil Dinosaur gives Ms. Marvel the greatest stinkeye ever. It's pretty amazing.

Unbeatable Squirrel Girl #11 is great, as usual. Hilarious. She beats villains using computer science! Including teaching Count Nefaria how to do binary counting on his fingers! Which delights Nefaria, since he is, after all, a Count. I also like how Doreen actually has a strategy for dealing with a dream where she shows up to the final exam of a class she didn't know she had and never studied for. Squirrel Girl: She even beats her own dreams.

Hellcat #9 has karaoke. I mean, any comic with karaoke is going to be a fun one. It's a great comic. When Patsy gets some cappuccino from Jubilee, she grabs a "Magneto Was Old" mug, which is great. I love that mug. We learn that Tom fucking owns the karaoke bar they go to. He is the goddamn mayor of that bar. He sings Ursula's song from The Little Mermaid. And he is smooth and suave and the absolute boss. And Jubilee has joined the legion of Tom/Ian shippers, because we all know those two need to just get together already. Also! Jubilee turns to mist! WITH SUNGLASSES. That might be the most Jubilee thing ever.

New Avengers #15 is frigging epic. It starts with Warlock quoting Dirty Harry. Warlock. Quoting. Dirty Harry. Guys. Guys. I'm not sure you understand. WARLOCK QUOTING DIRTY HARRY. Look at that. Look at it. Because it is the greatest thing ever. Also great: OMNITRONICUS rocks alliteration. I love the way this arc is all about Roberto's plans coming together. He out-smarted a Reed Richards. It's pretty awesome. There's a lot of awesome stuff in this issue. The fight between Ava and Angela. And, and! Toni tells Aikku she loves her! Squee! The ship is real, guys! I mean, there's a bit of tragedy involved, but just the same: Toni loves Aikku! And we know Aikku has feelings for Toni. So yay! Toni/Aikku ship!

Captain Marvel #8 is excellent. It's a really great exploration of just how hard Carol is trying to make Ulysses' visions work. It shows her as being aware of the ways it could go wrong, and the steps she's taking to try to make sure it doesn't. It really is an incredible amount of work she's put into it. She doesn't have doubts, but she is sincerely doing the absolute best she can to be reasonable and responsible. And it's cool. Also, this fucking panel. That is fantastic. That is so much a superhero image. I love it.

Nighthawk #4 is great. More intrigues, character work and brutal action. And more of Tilda being the best. I've always liked her, but Walker really is making her incredibly endearing.

Captain Steverica is good. Dark and creepy and cool. Nice little bit at the end. I also liked the Thunderbolts showing up. Especially Mach X and Atlas saying they could go for milkshakes. I wish they'd gotten the chance. Everyone deserves milkshakes when they want them.

Drax #10: Fin Fang Farm. That is all.

And not Marvel, but Snotgirl #2 is fantastic. It's weird and funny and disturbing and dramatic and great. I highly recommend this series. I promise, it is not what you're expecting. It is so much better than you're expecting. And if you're familiar with Bryan Lee O'Malley (or artist Leslie Hung), then you're already expecting something great.

So I had an idea for the Inhumans and how they could be improved to make them more interesting and better distinguish them from the X-Men these days.

that's cool, I could see it happen, and Black Bolt trying every loophole ever to make sure Medusa lives, while Maximus obstructs his attempts, could be a pretty good conflict. eventually Black Bolt would somehow trade Maximus' life for Medusa's and blast him to death with his voice, and then exile himself out of royal guilt, leaving Medusa as the lonely queen of Attilan. let's write this fic

Random question - what giant mechs did Marvel universe have? I suddenly realised I am hard-pressed to remember anything besides the Sentinels.

The Shogun Warriors were a team of giant robots who had their own book in the 70's. They can no longer be used because of licensing issues.

on the top of my head:

the Kree sentinels are also a thing, or used to at least.

Ultimo shows up when writers remember he exists, usually against Iron Man.

Leopardon only ever appeared in Spider-Verse but he's so awesome I can't not mention him.

there are others but they're pretty obscure. and of course the Transformers comics were a thing for a while.

Mega Morphs was a series and toyline all about the characters using mechs.

Its versions of Spider-Man and Doc Ock recently reappeared in Web Warriors.
