[up]I couldn't agree more. I hated the twist in Iron Man 3, but this version of Zemo? Blew. My. Mind. And I love the comic book incarnation, so managing to impress me with an In Name Only version of his character is quite an accomplishment. Making him an average joe who does so much damages was a strike of genius.

Adapting that Zemo would be like making Kang the Conqueror into Nox from Wakfu (right down to the very depressing villain motive).

... I would sooooo watch a cartoon doing this.

[up] Exactly. And the best part about that Zemo is that he ends up as a brilliant Shadow Archetype to Captain America. Both are ordinary guys who we wouldn't expect to do much who seeks to take down a powerful group who has been abusing their status. The difference is pretty obvious where Cap is fighting Nazis and corrupt government officials, while Zemo is going after heroes he perceived as evil.

And yeah that would make an awesome take on Kang, maybe in his Immortus identity who is basically trying to atone for his deeds as Kang.

Reminder Marvel can't use Kang. His rights are with FOX for some reason or another.

The TV shows are an altogether matter. Even now, Ultimate Spider-Man can use Wolverine, Deadpool and Juggernaut, and Avengers Assemble can use the Thing.

Edit: But since they were talking about Movie Zemo, I got confused for a moment and honestly thought they had taken a derail into talking about Kang in the MCU instead. I'm sorry.

[up] Nope. We were talking about the cartoons.

It started out being a conversation about how this show will make Zemo more like his movie counterpart, to talking about how awesome movie Zemo is, all the way to talking about Kang's potential portrayal in the show that will not happen.

Though on an unrelated note, that deal really make no sense: I get that the character has an influence on Apocalypse Start of Darkness and first fought the Fantastic Four but really he is mainly an Avengers related character based on all the memorable stories he have with said team.

[up]Yeah, this is one of these silly cases where a technicality can cause that kind of sillyness. A shame, really. Kang's design would be a bit difficult to update in a movie, but if handled properly, he could make for an awesome villain.

By the way, just curious, if you guys should make, let's say, a top 5 of the Avengers' biggest Nemesises, who would be on it and in which order.

Come to think about it, the Kang ban from the MCU still affects the animated series, though. Marvel Animation won't want to promote the character even if they can use him, especially if FOX gets to ever use him in their movies. They aren't going to help FOX spread awareness of their characters around.

I imagine it must be tempting for Marvel Animation to use Deadpool again after the reception of his first USM episode *and* the wild success of his movie, but I can't see the higher ups letting them to it just to spite FOX.

[up] Not sure if it's true or not, though seeing how Dr. Doom isn't being used in either shows after season 1 you may have a point. Honestly, this deal really is stupid; I get that it is for movie characters, but why does it have to affect animations as they are two separate entities. Not to mention the fact Kang will most likely won't be utilized by Fox considering all the famous stories related to him are Avengers related.

[up][up] Yeah, there is a lot of awesome things to do with this guy. And giving him an update is no problem, all they have to worry about is the timey whimey bullshit.

And as for Avengers arch nemesis it goes as follow for me:

1. Kang: Of course he will be top in my list of best Avengers villains. He is the most consistent one, has awesome tech to fight the team and let's not forget the time he successfully take over the 20th (21st) century in that awesome Kang Dynasty story arc.

2. Ultron: Recurring foe who wants to destroy the team due to his hatred of his creator Hank Pym and all that he stands for. He is definitely the more personable villain the team face as he is willing to commit atrocities just to get under their skin.

3. Baron Zemo and the Masters of Evil: What is more to say? A team comprise of villains from the Avengers past who wants revenge and world domination? Awesome. IIRC, this team preceded the Legion of Doom in terms of appearance.

4. Grandmaster: This one has always been underatted in my opinion. This guy is a cosmic being who sets up high stake games that would endanger the planet just to see how things play out. And the participants involve don't have a choice but play forcing them to fight other heroes that are from another team (Fantastic Four, Defenders, X Men), another time (Invaders), another reality (Squadron Supreme) or even another comic company (Justice League). This guy is basically Ultimate Showdown of Ultimate Destiny personify.

5. Loki: First villain they fought who ironically is the reason the team form. Worst decision in Loki's life to the point he gather all the villains to destroy the team once and for all (and failed).

Yeah. That show was perfect for getting newcomers into the Avengers method much like X-Men Evolution for the X-Men (though there are changes, said change actually capture the initial point of the characters).

It is a shame indeed that season 3 wasn't made, I heard rumors that they were using Kevin Conroy as Nighthawk; which mean we could of have a future Avengers vs. Justice League (in the form of Squadron Supreme) episode in a similar vain and Justice League vs. Teen Titans (who were the Royal Flush Gang).

Didn't this version did something similar with their Nighthawk who was voiced by Batman from Beware the Batman?

[up][up] Yep. Robin is King. Raven is Queen. Cyborg is 10, Beast Boy is Jack. And Starfire is Ace. It's pretty notciable, a blind watch of this make it sound like the Titans are in Justice League.

[up] I know Bader voiced Kraven. But no previous Batman va voiced this version of Nighthawk. Amusingly, Adam West voiced Nighthawk in Super Hero Squad Show doing a pretty good Kevin Conroy impersonation

I know Marvel loves to beat up thinly veiled versions of DC teams. Does Marvel have a teen titans expy?

Nope. Expy for Justice League and Legion of Superheroes yeah. But the Titans, none whatsoever.

At the time, the Titans were just an afterthought for Marvel not worthy of getting their own parody team just to make their awesome super hero teams look good. Teen Titans to Marvel is what Hunter x Hunter to the Big Three Anime (great series, but not worthy of competition for readers).

Kind of a shame. I know that at one point Teen Titans was doing better than Justice League? Leading to the Justice League Detroit stuff.

I guess a Teen Titans expy would go against the X-Men since they were the young hero team back when all these thinly veiled knock-offs were being created.

[up][up] Whoops. I subconsciously confused Beware the Batman with Batman The Brave and The Bold. Well that is interesting to know that that Batman voice Nighthawk (just checked, didn't realize it until now) though said ideas of Avengers vs JL Expy fell flat when Hyperion is voiced by Captain America's last va (meaning we could have an Avengers Assemble vs Avengers EMH situation).

[up] Yeah. Instead they got Legion of Superheroes (who also went with the whole young heroes team gimmick before the Titans and X-Men)

Hyperion's va voiced Ultraman though. They also got voices of Green Lantern and Wonder Woman from JL for Zarda and Doctor Spectrum, and also Kid Flash from Young Justice for Speed Demon.

That leaves Nuke as odd duck, since he shared voice with Spectrum. So they either cut their costs, or they missed the memo that Nuke is Firestorm, since Lamarr did voiced few other DC heroes like Cyborg or Aquaman.

Okay, so they got voice actors from different DC shows instead of the same reprising their roles as villain version of their counterparts. That's fine.

However Hyperion IMO still don't count as while Ultraman maybe a Earth 3 counterpart to Supermam he is still a completely different person (you know being an Earth astronaut who gain powers from radiations and became evil, or something like that). So he didn't voice Superman; a Superman yes, but not THE Superman (oh god I sound like a comic geek for justifying said point).

Since we are referencing the Squadron Supreme, I would like to know, how faithful was this show's version of them compared to the comic? What did they change about them? Aside from Nighthawk (who I very briefly saw in Civil War), that series was my introduction to this group, so I am curious about how they were in the comic.

In the comics they debuted under the name Squadron Sinister as a one off villainous team the Avengers fought under one of Grandmaster's games They make another appearance later on as the Squadron Supreme who are essentially super heroes from another world that are just as heroic as the Avengers. The reason for this is that the Squadron Sinister are evil version of the Squadron Supreme that the Grandmaster created just for one of his game.

So as far as their portrayal goes, its inaccurate. But it is accurate to the whole idea behind Squadron Sinister.
