[up][up] I would have to dig out the boxes at home, but I believe it's in the Bulldozer family, with am AM 3+ socket. 3.5 years old, but the system still runs my games smoothly enough that I don't currently see a need for any horsepower upgrades unless I need to future-proof for when I do upgrade the CPU.

Sorry to Interrupt everybody,

My profile has disappeared from Age of Empires 2 and I was wondering if anyone had any advice on how to restore it. My Age of Empires profile has great sentimental value to me as it was present during some important times and changes during my life. Games helped me through some tough times and were played when I was around people who I will likely never see again. This may sound stupid, but I have heard that the AI remembers and learns from the player and consider the profile itself thus to have an imprint of some people who will probably not be seen again. I was playing Age of Empires 2 when the power cut out to my computer. When I started up Age of Empires 2 again my profile was gone. I tried starting another profile with the same name but all the progress single player campaigns were gone! Oddly enough the saved games were still present.

I tried deleting the new profile and uninstalling the game with the "do not remove user related files such as saved games and maps" option on. When I reinstalled the game the profile was still gone. I looked in the folder and under the folder "learn" in Age of Empires 2 there is still a folder called matt.uh (matt being the name of my old profile). I hope this means that the profile is still in there somewhere and savable.

Any help in restoring this profile, or information on where I could find this information would be greatly appreciated.

If this is not possible any help in getting the old "learn" file to function for my new profile would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. I use Windows 7

Coppy the old one to a backup location.

Make a new profile.

Exit the game.

Coppy the old file to the location of the new file, please copy in case something gets messed up.

Rename the old file to the exact same name as the new one, removing the new one in the process.

See if the game recognizes it. smile

Nope, does quite a bit more then just VR stuff, but that one seems to be catared to high end stuff like SLI then general bug fixes.

[up][up][up][up][up] [tup]grin Many thanks Inca, I will give it a try! One question though, where do I find the profile and saved game information for Age of Empires 2 on Windows 7 home premium?

I've looked into the Age of Empires folder under "computer > C:/ > program files x 86 > Age of Empires II". The only thing in there relating to my old profile is "Matt.uh" under the folder "learn". Nothing else seems to contain anything else relating to profiles, either old or new.

You can always ask PC Gaming wiki if you are unsure smile

Apperntly the game wont create a new learn file that can be replaced though unless you play a game.

[up][tup]Thanks for the advice of the Gaming Wiki. I've followed the advice you gave me and found a folder with a "learn" account for both my new and old profiles, even though only one profile can be played on the game (the new one). There's a player.nfo file which only outputs gibberish when opened with notepad, and another file called player2.hki. Besides that it's just two folders called data and scenario which are the same as was in "computer > C:/ > program files x 86 > Age of Empires II".

I've created an account to ask for help in the Gaming Wiki but it won't let me post in the forums though. It says you are logged on as mattmattmatt and then when I press on the forums button I'm suddenly not logged in. When I log in again it brings me to the home page and the process repeats.

So...I finally got myself a new gaming pc and I need some expertise on the software side of things. What I heard about windows 10 sounds kinda shady so any ideas I could keep my privacy and have a secure pc.

The privacy thing' kind of horseshit from what I've heard, it's the same data 8 and 7 take. Could be wrong but that's what I've head from actual computer guys instead of social media.

[up] IIRC it takes a bit more, BUT you can just tell it not too.

There is an option for that while installing.

Overall it is a much better system then 8, but I still prefer 7.

Windows 10, tl;dr: Cortana's a snitch, The House of Redmond wants your data, but you can reclaim your privacy if you click through the Door Stopper EULA.

The big takeaway is anti-virus and firewall as this is s Micro$oft product and as secure as body armor made of chocolate. Go see Rock Paper Shotgun's article about Windows 10's attempts at getting your data.

Yeah, yeah. Internet Explorer got it's sticky fingers in Windows 98 (the "good" gaming windows, which still crashed like NASCAR). I liked Vista and Windows 7 was okay (after I beat it into submission).

Windows 10 can be acceptable but you have to do your homework. It's not Mac with the Fisher Pricenote  colors and icons in your face.

Get Open Office or Libre Office, you don't need Office 365 or whatever M$ is calling their bloatware office suite. Firefox can be used with Windows 10, again Micro$oft will try and force you to use their sh_t new IE clone. So awesome that it's breaking some webpages because f__k you the user that's why.

Linux is for those who look at a game and say "I wanna de-compile it!", or sees a d-pad and says "I wanna write the drivers for it!". Windows is for those who want to play games.

That ain't been my experience whatsoever. It asked about making Edge the default once when I upgraded, I said nope, ain't had to touch it since.

As good as OpenOffice and LibreOffice are, they still suffer when handed a .docx or .___x files in general due to MS Office's weird standards handling.

I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiot

[up]I stopped using that format due to my college using the Open Office packages and because It was real tired of fixing the ODT to Docx format changes, now I just use Libre Office to save myself the trouble of both dealing with doc conversion and having to renew that annoying office license.

Don't forget, there's also Google Docs if you don't mind using an online office suite.

Also, I contacted Gigabyte about the sometimes-wonky temperature sensor on my motherboard, and surprisingly, they're (supposedly) now working on a BIOS fix for it. Not exactly holding my breath, seeing as it was a BIOS glitch to begin with, but hopefully there's actually a fix in the pipeline.

Why would a site suddenly start doing an infinite redirect loop that leads to nowhere? Every time I try to access https://1d4chan.org/index.php on Google Chrome during the last few months, I keep getting this "too many redirects" error. I never had this issue before, and on Firefox it works perfectly fine.

My browser is set to clear its cache every time I close it (which is to say once every day). I even tried deleting the site's one and only cookie (no idea where it came from), and it didn't work.
