I don't get the trope from the current name. It sounds like it's either about a doll (but with no indication that it's about a delusional mother thinking it's her child), or some cheesy term of endearment.
Inanimate Surrogate Child? Boring, but clear.

Go ahead and throw your name suggestions at the YKTTW discussion and see what people think. Examples too, if ya got 'em. :)
We've quadrupled the number of examples already, and even got a few image suggestions. I think it won't be too much longer before it's ready for launch.
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.I think the YKTTW version is starting to look good; could really use some hats, or some feedback if you don't think it's ready.
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.Maybe "The woman who mistook a doll for her daughter?" Mouthful but clear and a reference to a famous book.
That is not a page name. That is a laconic.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickBy my count, the current name has the strongest support so far (three in favor, one actively opposed). The other suggestions that have been made are not very good, in my opinion, so I'm inclined to keep the current name unless the renamers make a better case than they have so far, and offer some better suggestions.
Remember, we're looking for a title, not a description. And especially not for an ambiguous description that could easily mean other things. The tendency towards overly-literal, overly-descriptive names recently has been proven to be counter-productive.
Keeping the current name is the path of least resistance, and I think the current name is very much good enough. So unless someone else takes the effort to establish a true consensus for something else, I plan to stick with the name we have.
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee. My Baby Doll has my support as well.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerNo idea why someone wants to change this name.
Btw, is the delusion bit necessary, or is any treating of dolls as your own children right here?
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanTreating a doll as a child without believing it's a child would probably fall under Egg Sitting or Replacement Goldfish, depending.
eta: if you have an example that doesn't fit either of those, bring it to the YKTTW, and we can discuss it.

Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.Possible name: Baby-Doll Baby
...if you don’t love you’re dead, and if you do, they’ll kill you for it.I prefer that to the current one.
I already counted your much-repeated lone vote against the name in post 32.
I have no particular interest in the name; I think the current name is just fine, and I'm definitely not alone in that, but I'll go along with whatever people decide. I have nothing against Maddy's suggestion, but I don't see it as a particular improvement either. There is zero evidence that the current name is causing problems.
Available evidence suggests that a rename vote would fail, but the evidence is also very weak, so that may not be the case. I'll vote against a rename if it's brought to a vote, because I don't see any point, but you're welcome to try to force the issue with a crowner if you feel so strongly about it. Otherwise....
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.Personally, even knowing what this trope is, I still find it difficult to remember that it's not about cheesy endearments.
If someone else wants to make a crowner, I certainly won't object. I'll even go so far as to say that since this was a premature launch, we can probably skip the rename crowner and go straight to a names crowner, as long as we include the original in the list of names. This is basically a second attempt at YKTTW.
I don't care enough about the name or see enough problem in the current name to bother making a crowner myself, but that shouldn't be an impediment to anyone else who feels more strongly about the matter.
My interest is getting the examples from the YKTTW onto an actual page somewhere. Anywhere. :)
eta: Basically, if you care so much about the name, then either put up or shut up. Please. And soon, please.

Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.I don't see enough of a case to make a crowner here. Remember, we are trying to clean TRS out, not fill it up with poorly-founded problems.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanIn any case, whether we rename or not is a question that can be resolved separately from the YKTTW.
The YKTTW did not come to a quick resolution on the matter of the name, but it did come up with a whole bunch of examples, and all it really needs at this point, IMO, is some hats. This thread really can't be closed until the YKTTW is launched. Whatever you may think about the name, please add comments (if you have them) or hats (if you agree with me that we have sufficient examples). The YKTTW is here.
The trope has already been launched (prematurely), so the YKTTW doesn't need to wait for the name question to be resolved. We have a place to put the examples, and the existing trope can be renamed independently of the YKTTW. So please, send hats.
thanks
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.Thanks. Two more and we can at least consider the content issues settled, if not the name.
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.I think it's good too. Enough examples for it to stand on it's own.
Um, then please go click on "add a hat" down at the bottom? Please and thank you. :)
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.Ok, YKTTW has been "launched". (Actually, I copied it over, then marked it as discarded, with an explanatory comment and a link on the discussion page.)
This is your everyone's last chance to make a rename crowner. Otherwise, I think we're done here.
Speaking words of fandom: let it squee, let it squee.Renewing clock. If no one comes forth in three days, we're done.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerOK, feel free to mock me for my ignorance, but how do you make a single-prop crowner?
It's already been decided that this doesn't need a single-prop, since it was a premature launch. Just go straight to alternative names and make sure My Baby Doll is on the list.
If you're really going to bother, I'll throw in Baby Doll Madness as a suggestion.

Crown Description:
Propose alternative names for the trope currently known as My Baby Doll
I'm mostly neutral on the name. I disagree that it's "completely counterintuitive"; in fact, I think it does an ok job of suggesting the trope. But I freely admit its not great, and does have some ambiguity. So...meh? I'm certainly open to suggestions.
