F.A.T.A.L.... oh, what can be said about this, that hasn't been said over a million times already...

To get to the point, on the Content Violation Reports, it has three devilheads and one angelhead. Now that the voting's done, what should we put down for the disposition? Personally, I'm for cutting, as it's basically a deviant porn game with pedobaitish elements. However, as I'm always for a second opinion, I would like to see what you guys think.

So... what should we do with this piece of crap?

I'm voting to just lock it. Yes, its a horrible game in every sense of the phrase that no one would ever play except because they're very drunk...but its not porn.

Discar - I think it's still porn. If porn can exist in video game, film, Japanese cartoon animes, and literary forms, why not a Tabletop Game porn? I know plenty of games have vague rules for sexual encounters, but this one has rules for every sexually deviant act you can think of. Do we really need an article on it at all? If we were able to make an exception to No Negativity, a locked stub saying "FATAL is a horrible game an you should feel horrible for playing it" I'd be fine with that, but I don't think we're going to do that. I vote cut.

Oh, I'm definitely not going to shed a tear if it gets cut. I'm just offering an explanation for my vote. Besides, I've never read the rulebook (and never will), so this is admittedly second-hand.

So...we gonna cut this, or what?

I was one of the devil head votes, but if there was a way that we could preserve the page on some level due to its infamy without coming off as though we are supporting the game, I would be for that.

Barring that I'm on board with cutting it.

Let's see what the mods think about the possibility of changing the FATAL page back to the old mocking version we used to be and locking - I don't have high hopes but I'll holler and find out.

Hm, wouldn't that violate the whole "No Negativity" rule we have, though?

I've always been under the impression that the rule was to avoid pages or edits a la Complaining About Shows You Dont Like — and having something to avoid that headache makes sense, by the way, I'm not arguing about that.

But now that things like the FATAL page are being examined, maybe it's time to take a look at that rule and see possible rewordings or alternatives where a work like FATAL is concerned, to avoid making it seem like it's a thing we endorse, but without leaving room for the predictable "well, if you can bash FATAL, I can bash Popular Videogame I Dont Like" arguments.

[down][down][down] I didn't see that! Agh, sorry sorry sorry!

[up][up] As was pointed out in said discussion, My Immortal and Eye Of Argon are written in a snarky style but are still allowed. I think we can come up with some kind of compromise on FATAL as well, but it won't hurt my feelings if that fails and it ends up being cut.

I was under the impression that the only reason that FATAL is even notable*

is because of a number of in-depth criticisms and send-ups which have more depth, insight, and humor to them than the game itself ever had.

Can I assume this is no longer a 5P only thread, or do some posts (including this one) need thumping?

if this is no longer 5P only, I'd like to stand in support of making this one of the exceptions to the No Negativity rule because leaving a mocking, snarky article - with link to the liveblog - does far better than censoring to show that in general, we're not that creepy as a whole, and that presented with shit like FATAL we'd rather rip it apart than masturbate to it.

I think it would be a great antidote to keep the snarky version of the article and the liveblog: both to those who would think we're becoming humorless censors AND to those who think we're all a bunch of kinky anime freaks looking to jerk off to whatever creepy/weird/fetishizing shit exists. Our snark of FATAL shows far more than any cut or deletion that yes, we do have some standards, and our response to those standards being violated can go beyond "DO NOT WANT" but into an art itself.

(read through the liveblog last night, alternating between RAGE and laughing my ass off. It's great Brain Bleach.)

Thump if this is still supposed to be 5p :)

Okay, per discussion with Martello and other mods, this thread's gonna be opened up for general debate. I'm going to try to work on a stub description tonight and post it here for comments/revisions when it's done. Keep in mind that there's still no guarantee that the page is going to be kept.

I'm in the "keep, but only because it's so infamous in tabletop RPG circles". No detail, just an explanation of how it's considered the worst game ever due to the crappy mechanics and explicit content.

[up][up][up]I think that My Immortal should be the yardstick here. It has a mention of how bad it is in an entire paragraph of the description and is working well as an exampled and locked page.

FATAL

I don't really want to go into much more detail about the problems, but it seems an item or two short, and the part about the review and rebuttal could use a little more elaboration, but not to the degree that was on the page before it was pared down (check the history near the bottom).

Link the Liveblog too, albeit with a warning that it goes into detail about the content, and this would be awesome :)

[up] Where is that? I skimmed the history and I don't see it.

EDIT: Added a little bit more. There's an SA article about it that I'm debating adding, but it's NSFW so that may be a no-go...beyond that, and barring that liveblog link, that's about as good as I think it'll get.
