Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youI kinda hope he's in the body of Tad Strange in the episode at one point, if only so we can hear Cecil Baldwin say some creepy shit outside the context of Night Vale.
Because every JK Simmons character is a BAMF.
Insert witty 'n clever quip here.Awwwwwww,
Mabel looks cuter than normal.
Say to the others who did not follow through You're still our brothers, and we will fight for youI'm tempted to think that Bill's going to possess Tad at one point, and every time Bad opens his mouth some convenient moment will pop up so that Cecil doesn't have to say a single strange word. And then at the end Tad'll be back to normal and he'll just go on his bland merry way.

You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.Hold on...Blendin...Billy...Bill...HALF LIFE 3 CONFIRMED

Anyway, on the topic of whose "fault" it was, I think this is one of those cases where basically everyone involved screwed up to some degree. Dipper and Ford screwed up by not informing anyone about the rift, and Mabel screwed up by letting her emotions get the best of her and not considering how her decision might affect others. There's no one person who's free of blame, and no one person whose solely responsible for what happened. Well, except for Bill.
Reaction Image RepositoryStan is innocent, he literally did nothing.
YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.I know, that's why I said "everyone involved".
Reaction Image RepositoryHe was involved...being in the episode and being part of the reason Ford thinks the way he does.

YO. Rules of the Internet 45. Rule 45 is a lie.Did anyone blame Blandin? He agreed to be Bill's host.
On the Blendin/Billy/Bill thing, isn't Illuminati Confirmed more appropriate, considering the shape Bill has?
Jason has come back to kill for Mommy. Why aren't people blaming Bill more? Out of all of the characters, he seems the most directly responsible for last night's event.s
You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.Possession kind of gets him a free pass. I mean, we can assume it wasn't voluntary.
Because why blame the villain when you get the opportunity to belittle characters you don't like and indirectly praise characters you do like?
@Count Of Bleck: Although Bill needs permission before he can possess someone.

I dunno, judging by Bipper, not necessarily—he just needs to make them think they're getting what they want while he just takes what he wants.

Insert witty 'n clever quip here. It's a really nice bit of characterization in how Ford, in assuming that Dipper is himself and Mabel is Stan, is essentially and unwittingly making Dipper into himself and Mabel into Stan as they were from his point of view. Mostly because in a lot of other shows with less nuance to their characters, Ford would be a lot more nasty and overtly cold of a character. Here's, he's obviously wrong but also very understandable.
Ford's belief that when you're an exceptional person other people can't meaningfully help and will just hold you back (or betray you), and that your loved ones should get out of your way for the good of everyone is an interesting character trait, because he's genuinely sincere about it. He's not trying to be a jerk, that's just how he thinks. He clearly has nothing against Mabel, but he legitimately sees her presence as something inconsequential (and potentially limiting) to Dipper's growth and never entertains the idea that they could grow and become exceptional together - because, after all, that's what Ford thinks about his relationship with Stan.
It's selfish and extremely vain, but he's ingrained it so much that he really does think it's what's best. It's both easy and hard to fault him for driving a wedge between the twins.

"The difference between reality and fiction is that fiction has to make sense." - Tom Clancy, paraphrasing Mark Twain. In other words, Ayn Rand's a hell of a drug.

Oh God! Natural light!Interestingly, thanks to the events of the latest episode, in the trailer for the new episode Bill is missing from the title card. There's only Bill-shaped hole left.
I was thinking Neon Genesis Evangelion.
But that's just because I haven't seen enough Cosmic Horror anime.
