I can respect that one. Though nobody seemed that out of character to me I can appreciate how the episode feels and in fact is, rather distracting from the main plot. If it makes you feel better, this means we'll likely have almost sole focus on Amon until the finals of the tournament.
You're right, windweaver, no one truly seemed out of character (of course, I would also argue Katara didnt really seem out of character at season 3 either), but it was just hidden depths to them that I wish I hadn't known. For instance, Bolin, while he did experience a rather sad event, is a total drama queen while Korra, whil understandably confused, could easily be interepreted as a sk*nk.
You are displaying abnormally high compulsions to over-analyze works of fiction and media. Diagnosis: TV Tropes Addiction.I interpreted it as Bolin's just the sensitive type. I mean, how would you feel about it if your brother who's probably been more like a father to you for most of your life suddenly turned around and snogged the girl you were interested in even AFTER he told you what a bad idea it was. I can understand Bolin feeling quite betrayed and I've seen more stoic guys than Bolin do waaaaaaaay worse than drinking, which I assume is what we're to interpret Bolin as doing. Plus, I see the whole Borra thing as the Masculine Girl, Feminine Boy trope.
And frankly anyone who considers Korra's behavior this episode as 'sk*nky' would likely get a strongly worded rebuttal from me as well as a request to take another look at the definition of the word.

It seems like an Ass Pull for Mako to dump Asami and get together with Korra,I know this series is short, but could you have least made it longer?
http://s1.zetaboards.com/Conceptual_Evolution/ http://sagan4.com/forum/index.phpThe series already is setup for two seasons and we all know chances of getting third season pretty strong. So probably won't be much of an asspull. Nor is Korra and Mako a given to happen like some people think. They are all teenagers. Who knows where things will end up.
Improving as an author, one video at a time. All I am saying is that they should've paced it (IE make Makorra canon in the second season at the earliest)
Makorra will break up and they will see other people, metaphorically spitting in the shipper's faces.
http://s1.zetaboards.com/Conceptual_Evolution/ http://sagan4.com/forum/index.phpVery true.
I'm actually hoping for a first loves don't always work out lesson here.
But it's not canon. We know Korra's got a crush and made her feeling at the moment known. However, we're seeing writers recognizing that teen love doesn't always mean something and I'd actually feel kind of happy if Korra eventually grows out of her infatuation with Mako and goes after someone else, whether it's Bolin or not.
However, as always, I will fall in line with what the Creators decide are the canon ships since it's less important than overall story issues.

But how do we know that Mako is Korra's first love? (she might have met some cute boys while mastering the elements) Plus if anyone is Mako's first love it's Asami
http://s1.zetaboards.com/Conceptual_Evolution/ http://sagan4.com/forum/index.phpConsidering how sheltered Korra's childhood and early adolescence were, I'd say odds are good she hasn't had any real romantic entanglements.
My opinions on the canon ships so far.
Borra - I am annoyed with Korra atm so for this ship to NOT make my teeth grit - Korra has to chase Bolin for a bit, and even then - I'll still see red. Korra, don't you dare break his heart again!
Makorra - As I'm currently (still) annoyed with Korra and VERY annoyed with Mako atm - you two d.e.s.e.r.v.e. each other. (shoos)
Masami - Mako does NOT deserve Asami. WTF Mako. Atm, I want Asami shipped with Bolin, Tahno, Amon, the Lieutenant, etc. If Makorra is end game, they best have Mako break off with Asami as early as possible cause the fandom needs time to forgive the effing bastard.
Plants are aliens, and fungi are nanomachines.I don't think Korra was being skanky. She did lead Bolin on though, even if it was unintentional.
Really earning that screen name aren't ya bro.
Kidding kidding.
I really don't think she was leading him on intentional or otherwise. I think when considering relationships we as viewers forget the separation between what is obvious to us and what is apparent to the characters.
I mean, just because you ask someone to do something and they accept doesn't mean they like you romantically. Even if Bolin did use the word date, one date does not relationship make and I think there was less leading and more jumping to a lot of conclusions.

Give me time. It's less than a day since I saw episode 5, and I even prep myself for heartbroken Bolin.
Also, unlike /co/ - I don't see Korra as a slut. (That would be Mako.) My anger is sourced from over-protectiveness of Bolin.

Plants are aliens, and fungi are nanomachines.I ship Tahno X Energybending

HodorOnce again though I feel like slut is being too harsh to these characters. This is not directed at you, I've just seen this too elsewhere and it irks me. NO ONE here is being overly promiscuous. Korra is going after what she wants. She's forward and honest about her affections, horribly awkward about it, but honest and I find that refreshing. I find it worrisome (I'm a bit of an understatement type of guy so I'm using worrisome to be cautious) that people call Korra a slut for doing something that we'd probably be praising a guy for in just admitting the attraction.
And Mako's not that bad either. He's normal and flawed but he's dealing with the fact that humans can and often are attracted to multiple people at once. I think he has plenty of genuine attraction to Asami and you can see he feel pretty bad about the fact that it's not 100% focused.
Just to be clear, I am AGAINST slut-shaming.
I hang around /co/, but I don't participate in that very popular past time over there. Please take my "Mako is a slut" comment as more of a "Guys, why do you think I'm saying-thinking Korra is a slut?" just because I said I'm "annoyed" with her?
Pre-episode 4, I was like convinced Bolin's interest in Korra was not serious. After seeing episode 4, I was in "OMG BOLIN'S GOING TO BE HEART BROKEN" yellow alert phase.
Any expressed annoyance on my part is directly proportional to the anguish I felt witnessing the very moment Bolin's heart was shattered.
Plants are aliens, and fungi are nanomachines.I said that this isn't aimed at you. Sorry if I made you feel like I was accusing you.
The Bolin protectiveness is hyper understandable. As I said, I think I got converted to the Borra ship this episode.
I have been wondering too how they will handle Asami finding out. I'm starting to wonder, "how is she gonna react?"
And let me add to the chorus of "Poor Bolin." :( Hopefully since this is a teen romance type of thing, he and Korra will eventually discover they're perfect for each other, although I ship pretty neutrally - though I have always leant more Borra-wards instead of Makorra.

I...don't think I can ship Tenzin x Penma anymore despite them giving uss Jinora and Meelo since Penma stole him from another girl. /:
NVM. Edit - don't want to get into this. Bolin-induced depression making more argumentative than usual.
—-
Apologies for being obviously annoyed with both Korra and Mako, more the latter than the former. BUT it's been less than a day after episode 5 and I am still in pain for Bolin.
I didn't even want one-sided Borra to be canon. (BRYKE, WHY?!) My distress is character-based, rather than shipping-based.

Plants are aliens, and fungi are nanomachines. Was that sarcasm?
I obviously can't tell over the interwebs but "stole," seems a bit... rough of a term to me. Always has. She admitted she had feeling for Tenzin. Didn't threaten him, blackmail him or even try to jump his bones. Merely confessed her affections if we're to believe the story. Tenzin is the one who made a decision to leave and since he did there was probably something else not working in the relationship before that.
@ insane My apology still stands.

The characters themselves handled the situation more maturely at the end than the actual fandom, funnily enough.
Not surprising though.
I feel bad for Bolin, considering he's the prime victim in the whole thing, but feelings are out in the open (besides, he was freaking hilarious - "You're a brother betrayer!"). I'm not going to slut-shame Korra or bash Mako, because they simply got caught up in the moment, and didn't think much of the consequence. They're dealing with that, and it's only a matter of time before we get an official conclusion. Right now, they agreed to move forward and keep things balanced for the sake of everyone's psyches. The characters are human, mistakes are made, and I immensely respect that because I can totally relate to the love drama that I've personally both seen and experienced.
But Mako has to do something, because he's the one dating someone. Make a decision or keep distance from Asami until he figures himself out. I'm waiting to see how he handles this issue really.

@Wind, I edited my post - removed that first bit.
Just really in hyper-protective mode of Bolin, atm.
Plants are aliens, and fungi are nanomachines.
you know how some people argued against The Great Divide because they felt that it distracted too much from the main story for stupid gags and filler or how Katara was totally character derailed at the end of season 3? well this is my version of those. i actually hated all three of the cast after watching this.
