@8046 tdgoodrich 1:"OK, all kidding aside, what do we need to know about Madou Souhei Kleinhasa?"
As I mentioned before, I downloaded and played the demo of this. The vast majority of the text (and thus gameplay time) is in non-sex scenes - I'm estimating 75-85%. I can't actually *read* this text, but if the demo is representative of the distribution of material in the full game, it's not porn.
"So... the time has come for you to meet your demise..."A quarter of the text spent on sex scenes is actually rather a lot. Even the porniest stuff is probably only half sex scenes.

Also, that's the demo, mind you. Generally speaking, the amount of sexual content increases over time.
"Polite life will fill you full of cancer." - Iggy Pop "I've seen the future, brother, it is murder." -Leonard CohenReally? Because it seems like I tend to run into the opposite more often, with demos that overemphasize the amount of sex in a work.
So where are the goalposts here? I'd think that if the amount of non-sex content is an actual multiple of the amount of sex content, then it's pretty hard to call it "only for arousal". My guess on the ratio here would be something like 4:1, although since I don't currently have access to the PC I installed the demo on, I can't recheck that easily. But that seems like it ought to be plenty.
I could probably hunt down the full version, but I'd like to have a better idea what's going to be considered satisfactory here. (Well, honestly I'd rather not do that at all, the game just doesn't look that appealing...)
"So... the time has come for you to meet your demise..."Just checking in to say that it will probably be a few more days until my schedule clears up enough to do proper reviews. It seems like things are going well in my absence though, so keep up the good work! I'll focus on things that need a third vote when I get back into it.
Visit my contributor page to assist with the "I Like The Cheeses" project!Correct me if I'm wrong, but the problem is that there aren't really any good goalposts, as far as the ratio of erotic to non-erotic content is concerned - hence "I know it when I see it". (Sad, but we don't really have any good alternatives.) In view of this, our best practical option would be to look for someone who's actually played the full game to make a proper assessment first, and give a reasonable opinion based on that. Failing which, looking at the ratio of CGs might be a decent surrogate.
Take your time, man.

Not a substitute for a formal medical consultation.Anything significant happen here while I was away for the last few days?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. We scrapped Rance after endless discussion.
"For a successful technology, reality must take precedence over public relations, for Nature cannot be fooled." - Richard FeynmanAnd nothing of value was lost...
Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows.@Pyrite: Kuro already looked at the CG sets. See a few posts up from there for the "link" to the CG sets.
"Polite life will fill you full of cancer." - Iggy Pop "I've seen the future, brother, it is murder." -Leonard CohenKomo, while your opinion is well noted, kindly refrain from shoving it into everyone's faces. Clearly, if there were people who were willing to argue for it to stay, there is value to it. Maybe not to you, than to the people who were willing to argue for it to stay.
You've clearly got a personal bias against the work, but bashing it (and by extension, its fans) just makes you look like an asshole. While I hesitate to make the accusation, I believe your objectivity is compromised when it comes to this series, and little comments like the ones you just made really bring down my opinion of your capacity (and, by extension, the panel's capacity) to remain objective.
I get that this is a hard job. I get that it's a NECESSARY job. What I don't get is why you think that a cut work is any less protected by the rules than one that isn't. I don't particularly care about Rance one way or another, but your comments regarding it is easily interpreted as flame bait or trolling, depending on your definitions of the terms and where the line is for a given individual.

Thanks for reminding me. I haven't had a chance to look at the set, though 64% is a bit much. But lest we're missing out on the non-CG content... what's the gameplay like? KBH's comment sounds like there isn't much of it.

Not a substitute for a formal medical consultation.Unfortunately VNDB lacks data on it. We may be at something of an impasse until we find someone who has played the full game.
"Polite life will fill you full of cancer." - Iggy Pop "I've seen the future, brother, it is murder." -Leonard CohenDo we have an english version we can use to judge? I -might- be able to spare the time to do a playthrough of the game.
@Puma: ... Eh, you're right. I'll stop; this just makes me look like a Single-Issue Wonk jerk. Still, I hope you understand that, at this point, I'm honestly quite sick of hearing about that series...
Experience has taught me to investigate anything that glows.I do understand, completely. I'm just telling you to knock it off inb the most direct and unconfrontational way I can.
Judging VNDB "Sexual Content" tags are only "Tentacle Rape" and "Only Avoidable Rape Scenes" I think we can imply there is only avoidable sexual content, at last.
There's no English release of Kleinhasa, official or fan-translated, according to VNDB.
"Polite life will fill you full of cancer." - Iggy Pop "I've seen the future, brother, it is murder." -Leonard CohenCan't find any info on an English patch. Most of the reviews don't say much about the content, but it's a VN, so we need to go by the overall text content. Our page doesn't add much, but I had a look at the page history, and I wonder if Imota would be able to provide input since he's / she's made edits to the page recently.
As discussed previously, if we can't find anyone willing or able to defend it, I'd agree with cutting based on the CG set and what limited evidence we have, at least until further information is surfaced.
/BTW, thanks for sorting out the argument like gentlemen.

Not a substitute for a formal medical consultation. It's that much of a problem, I could play the full game myself.
If you could do that, I suppose we'd be much closer to making the decision on this work. No pressure, though.
Not a substitute for a formal medical consultation. The thing is, 64% *isn't* really a lot. It's a majority by number of images, but in a typical visual those images only get used once, while portraits and backgrounds get used again and again. Based on what I've seen I'd expect even most heavily story-focused games to be above 50%.
@Heath: There are consensual sex scenes in the game, based on what I've read. I don't know if they're avoidable or not.
"So... the time has come for you to meet your demise..."It works like a lot of romance visual novels in that you choose a girl and you have sex with her a bunch. During fight scenes you're given two options that are basically win or lose. Win and the game continues, lose and you get tentacle rape and game over.
And that CG count didn't include backgrounds or character portraits. And really 64% would be pretty big for a plot-heavy game. It's not like it hasn't happened, but a lot of plot-heavy 18+ games have less than 50% porn CG's.
By the way, I can't find any place to download the full game.

I guess you could call that a Luud moment.
