Non Con also covers stuff that is not technically rape, like sexual harassment and blackmail.

Calling someone a pedant is an automatic Insult Backfire. Real pedants will be flattered.Alright, I think my questions have been answered.

A Japanese troper came in and offered the clarification. But we are not working with Japanese standards either way, I'm afraid. Our readers are primarily from the western world, and our servers are hosted by American companies in the US. I'm not in the US myself, nor do I fully agree with their standards, but I understand that that is where the site is hosted, and have to make compromises.
djmaca, stop the ridiculous arguments. Their main appeal is the same, even if they're not the same to the core.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - Fighteer@lu So like it's saying apples are the same as pears: They don't come from the same tree but they're still fruits.
Sorry, but 90% of the anime community will disagree with you. Because being all moe over a character and being a pedo is totally different. This has been debated upon already, by more intelligent people than us, and there are tons of material that would definitely contradict with you. Most famous is Ken Akamatsu's essay on moe and a post by Danny Cho(regarded as the best animeblogger yet).
...a little brother should belong to his older sister, right? - Orimura Chifuyu@Martello: 1) CP isn't "cutesy"; it's an actual acronym for Child Pornography.
2) It's convenient for faster post-writing, since it's safe to assume that the context alone is enough for the acronym to make sense almost immediately.
Seriously, just because you hate the way some people here try to find some worth in works involving pedophilia/lolicon/underaged sex that you personally find "utterly reprehensible" and "inexcusable" (regardless of whether or not anyone else on the council or the adminstration agrees with you) does not mean that it's okay for you to be blatantly aggressive or caustic to any comment that doesn't fit your vision of how we should talk about the topic.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.LU that makes far more sense than I anticipated. Huh.

@lebrel I've also seen it used for the whole sex spores made us do it stuff too
@Marq - I wasn't talking about how people "try to find the worth in the works." I'm trying to keep my opinions on that to myself. I'm just talking about people using sanitized terms to talk about things that are horrible in real life. Thus, my hatred of the term "non-con" and "cp" and "chi-mo." Yes, that last one is an actual term used in fanfic sites. This I have learned from scanning Fan Fic Recs.
"Did anybody invent this stuff on purpose?" - Phillip Marlowe on tequila, Finger Man by Raymond Chandler.djmaca, you will stop this ridiculous argument now. I am a member of the anime community, as are at least three other moderators, and none of us find either acceptable. Moe is not paedo-pandering, and no one has said it is. You're making stuff up at this point.
Marq, Imca was the one to do so in the SE thread.

"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerAre you people really complaining about using acronyms or not?
What he said.

Full Battle ModeYes, a troper posted who said they are Japanese and they clarified that despite the nationwide age of consent being set at 13, every prefecture has set it higher than that. I think he said it ranged from 15 to 18.
He also seemed pretty darn offended by the suggestion that Japanese people would consider 13 a reasonable age of consent or are more tolerant of pedophilia.

Oppression anywhere is a threat to democracy everywhere.@Martello: Acronyms and abbreviations are not made for sanitization; they are made for convenience. It's easier to avoid spelling mistakes by writing "CP", "non-con" or "chi-mo" than to write out the full terms, not to mention faster, and saves file space if the term keeps getting referenced on the same page many times.
edited 26th Apr '12 5:28:47 PM by MarqFJA
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.@Marq - Sure they are. I don't care if it's more convenient. Do you (or whoever) have a bus to catch while you type your post? It's odd to see a post written in proper grammar and syntax with no abbreviations except for "non-con." Especially when the word is rape and that's what it needs to be called.
Also, tone down the hypocrisy a bit. You take exception to my "caustic" tone and then refer to one or more other members of this site as " close-minded troublemakers that keep throwing childish tantrums."
"Did anybody invent this stuff on purpose?" - Phillip Marlowe on tequila, Finger Man by Raymond Chandler.Wait, if someone says "Hadaka no Kodomo is child pornography" and I say "no it isn't," would I be considered to be defending child pornography?
It's kinda word-magic to say "CP" is somehow less awful than "child pornography" if everyone knows what it means. I don't think typing out "child pornography" is necessary to understand the full vileness of child pornography. And as has been noted, "non-con" isn't exactly the same as rape.

The child is father to the man —OedipusWell, yea, IRL, you don't want that sort of thing happening at all. [{insert unnecessary violent fantasy here about the fate of 'pedos']]
I hate those guys.

@Martello: As someone else has pointed out, "non-con" is a lot broader than just "rape"; the latter only covers actual vaginal/anal sex, IIRC.
And by "close-minded troublemakers that keep throwing childish tantrums", I am referring to the trolls and other such sorts that keep popping up every now and then to make your life and mine a lot harder by subverting everyone's efforts with troll-suggestions/cutlists.

Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.
You're getting way too upset over the fact I just used an abbreviation. People know what it means, and the implication of it. We're smart enough to figure that out.
edited 26th Apr '12 5:31:09 PM by Thorn14
It's just an abbreviation. No reason to get worked up over it. It's not a euphemism.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - Fighteer@Thorn - Again, I'm getting sick of the general use of those types of sanitized abbreviations. Your's wasn't all that bad, it just reminded me of all the times I've seen "non-con" used in these discussions and how awful it is. It's like referring to the Holocaust as the HC or the Ho-Cau or something like that.
"Did anybody invent this stuff on purpose?" - Phillip Marlowe on tequila, Finger Man by Raymond Chandler.@ Acronym argument -_-. Can we calm down please?
edited 26th Apr '12 5:33:20 PM by encrypted12345
Full Battle ModeI think we need to calm down here. This isn't a thread we should be derailing.
@Martello: Just for the record, I would completely support your stance if this site was a formal encyclopedia/wiki. However, were are an informal wiki.
Okay. Stop derail here?
edited 26th Apr '12 5:35:49 PM by MarqFJA
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus.Well to make it a topic, and while I don't mean to be insulting, but if you can be put off so easily such as by acronyms Martello, I question your position as a what I would hope objective and unbiased position on the P5.
But I'll stop here for the sake of this thread.
edited 26th Apr '12 5:36:32 PM by Thorn14
I'm not even worked up. I was just addressing something I see as a common problem. If I was yelling I'd be using allcaps or something.
And yeah, no more of this derail. I admit it was mostly my fault.

Yes it is a myth. You could say there's no legal law that people under the age of 21 can't drink in America, but that would be wrong, because every state has a law setting the drinking age at 21.
