Apparently they (EA) didn't get the memo when people said they f***ing hated the Sixaxis controls in the first game.

Also X Box exclusive... Why the hell would you do that?

edit: Are you sure it's a sequel and not just a remake of the first game?

It would be Kinect 2, actually.

The thing that grabbed my eye: "If that weren't enough, the next generation Microsoft console will feature a controller that has a detachable analog and 3" touchscreen gamepad (which is reminiscent of the old Dreamcast controller.) Mirror's Edge 2 allegedly would make use of that miniscreen."

Also Xbox exclusive... Why the hell would you do that?

Microsoft pays for all the advertising.

The Kinect part is unsurprising (after all the push, I really think it'll be a standard controller in the next Xbox)...Xbox exclusive though? Huh?

Oh well, it's still rumor...

Kinect 2, which will probably have a higher res and more responsive control. Though... I hope you wouldn't be required to do the parkour yourself. That would be one fucking exhausting game. [lol]

It really looked it anyway. They'd have to tone the difficulty down if they wanted people to stick at it.

Please let this just be a rumor. I'm not averse to a sequel, just the Kinect.

[up]Can people stop to actually read what was said? It isn't the Kinect. It's the Kinect 2. Which we haven't seen yet so stop your bitching, please.

On-topic, I loved Mirror's Edge. I hope that if this rumour is true that they do as good of a job on this one as they did on the first one.

Unless Kinnect version 2 is better in some revolutionary way, I think they're within reason to be concerned about it. The fact that Kinect = motion controls and motion controls have been a hard sell to a lot of gamers is sufficient.

...and I see their point. Though the video attached to the article was a demo by a hobby guy and not anything official, how much overlap is there between people who would want to play Mirror's Edge and people who can deal with that level of physical exertion? And I have a hard time immagining how motion control would behave with the precision movement and timing elements.

I think I'd rather do parkour for real if it required much physical exertion. In fact, I think I will.

How the hell do you make your character MOVE with Kinect? You run in place?

[up] I have no idea, because I've never used such a thing. I'm more of a Nintendo Wii player myself. smile Well, I hope they figure out the gameplay mechanics they want for this game!

A sequel for Mirrors Edge would be interesting, because the first game ended on a Cliffhanger. Faith and Kate are in a tight spot, they will have to contend with anti-Runners, and Celeste is apparently a bad guy now. sad Meanwhile, the Mayor has He Who Must Not Be Seen status, which brings up an interesting question: why does he have that status?

His ugly face makes people cry. He hides away out of shame.

Seriously, maybe he think that being unseen gives him more power or an advantage.

Or, maybe it's just a narrative contrivance. That's what I reckon. He's a metaphor, more interesting in what he represents — institutionalised and entrenched control through the elimination of free speech. Giving a personality to that would turn it into a statement about his character, and suggest that it was possible to disperse control through his elimination.

If Mirror's Edge wants to play its cards logically, it shouldn't assume that knocking the guy out an aeroplane would be any kind of a victory. That act couldn't, wouldn't change the status quo. Hearts and minds is where the answer is, in connecting the lines of communication and giving voice to voiceless dissent before the bad guys trick Faith's remaining allies into turning on her.

That's what they want you to think, fight the power! And Nicknacks is so secretly a rebel.

On the other hand, it's been ages since I played the game. I can't remember for the life of me.

Kinect functionality can mean many things.

  1. You may just be barking out audio commands.
  2. You may just be using hand movements.
  3. It may just be a minigame portion of the game.

On a side note, I much prefer Mirror's Edge's Still Alive to Portal's.

Mirror's Edge 2 is still alive in production!

(There's two threads for this but this is the one most recently used)

edit: Scratch that, there's three Mirror's Edge 2 related threads, this is still the most recent one, though.

Wish #1 for ME2: Either make it open-world or give us some opportunity to familiarize ourselves with the stages, because when you're dumped into a completely new stage and forced to keep a steady pace there's going to be a stupid amount of failure and frustration.

Wish #2: Don't grind the game to a screeching halt just to make us push a button, turn a lever or shoot people or whatever. On the same page, trapping you in elevators to sit and twiddle your thumbs while the stages load isn't all that fun, either.

Wish #3: Make a somewhat decent story this time, if not just ditch it altogether, please.
