In regards to dubs, the DBZ dub's pronunciation of ki as "kai" is also the reason why most English-speakers call bull on the correct pronunciation "kee". I'll admit to doing that when I first heard the later on the English dub of Ranma One Half.

But pointless anti-dubbing talk is pointless. Point is, "Super Cyan" is hilarious as shit.

Eh? When did the dub pronounce kai as ki?

KAI? Flopped??

sure, thats sounds more like an opinion, Evolution? no doubt it, KAI, Really???

knock it off guys, sheesh...

Opinion, n. A personal subjective believe.

Flopped, verb. Meaning something that sold or performed poorly, low sales records etc.

Claiming that something "flopped" is not stating a belief about the thing's quality, its simply saying it performed poorly from a sales viewpoint.

If you're talking about Ranma One Half I think Ranma's voice actor at least gets the pronounciation right.

Actually Wikipedia makes it look like there's been at least one Dragon Ball game a yearvfor a while now.

Still, anyone know who's developing this? The ad seems really western, in fact the whole thing does but I suppose is could be Japanese. Has Kinect caught on over there?

OK, people quoting the dictionary at each other is, like, the conversation equivalent of all your canaries dropping dead. It's time for an emergency topic shift.

I'll just go back to my previous sentiment that if the developers took the time instead of recycling elements from UT and adapting them to the Kinect, you'd have a potentially good game here. In theory, DBZ could work on the Kinect and work well, but that just doesn't seem to be the case here.

I can at least say two positive things about the trailer. The music was good. The in-game music will hopefully be good as well, since the DBZ games usually tend to have nice soundtracks. And hey, the effects were decent. Most of 'em, anyway. Of course, if this was real, that city would've been long reduced to rubble.

Also, Episode of Bardock will apparently be shipped with this game.

Admittedly, if I had a Kinect I'd probably buy this game. It would, if nothing else, be a good workout, and morning jogs just aren't good enough lately.

That, and I completely missed every DBZ game after the original Budokai, so the similarities to UT wouldn't bother me. Still, I wish Capcom had gotten the DBZ license, and not Namco.

[up] What exactly is Episode of Bardock?

Man, you missed Budokai 3? That game was fantastic.

Episode of Bardock is a three-chapter manga (then adapted into a 20-minute anime special, which is what's being shipped with this game) detailing Bardock's story after he was killed along with all of Planet Vegeta in Bardock: The Father of Goku. Except for that he didn't die. He was instead sent back in time, landing on Planet Plant (Planet Vegeta before the Saiyans came and took it over). He ends up befriending the natives, fights against Frieza's ancestor Chilled, and goes Super Saiyan, driving Chilled away from the planet and thus creating the "Legendary Super Saiyan" myth that prompted Frieza to destroy Planet Vegeta in the first place.

...Now I'm not sure if I should dig up my ancient DBZ-fanboyism and watch that special. That sounds pretty darn awesome.

That three chapter manga was quite terrible actually. I don't know if the anime version is the same…

....Hmm, a Madoka Magica game in the form of an Interactive Anime styled game would be cool (I know the Guys that could Do It.)

Hell, If anything Cyber Connect 2 should have the Dragonball license instead of Dimps, as it's obvious Dimps ran out of ideas a long time ago.

Yeah, that Bardock thing sounds damn silly. Please tell me it wasn't actually penned by Toriyama.

[up] It was drawn by toriyama and he did commision it, but it was written by another person and is considered an AU and a What If? than actual canon.

Dragon Ball Online, however, IS canon.

... I'm not entirely sure how an MMORPG can have a canon, much less be a part of an existing one.

I mean, the story has to be vague enough that you can make up anything you want, so that each player can have a unique experience. Also, from reading its summary on our Trope page, it seems to be written so that it can easily be retconned out if Toriyama ever changes his mind.

Well, it takes place in the future and retcons GT out of continuity. The problem isn't as big as you think.
