Can the formatting return to how it was originally, with everything sorted by media instead of alphabetically with fanfics from all media mixed together?

The current formatting is temporary, I believe. The council has been formed, and they're apparently going through the recs. Best keep a tank of Brain Bleach on hand if theirs runs out.

I think everybody is a 7th year in that story, so it doesn't break the rules. Sadly.

Seventh Years are usually seventeen to eighteen years of age.

I'm going to petition to keep My Immortal if it gets cut, for the memey-ness of it if nothing else.

[up] It's what happens when the pages get too big. They split to avoid messing up the page. It's like how big pages get their tropes split into different sections.

F Fnet has over 500,000 HP fics. If only 10% are any good, and of those 10% only 1% get recommended, that still leaves 500 recs.

So long as we aren't cutting works that are Fan Fic, I guess I'm okay with this. There Is No Such Thing As Notability says that we can make pages for Fan Fic, and we can deal with those being NSFW on a case by case basis. Somewhat mad about Google getting on our rump for Porn Tropes on the account of them being Tropes, not Porn, but it's a thing we're going to have to deal with. Assuming Google gave it the slap even while it was behind the curtain, that kinda compromises our modius operandi though, and we should look into what to do about it. (If it wasn't, someone was asleep at the wheel and that happens.)

EDIT: *le sigh*

Google technically isn't directly responsible for Porn Tropes being taken down. They only had an issue with Naughty Tentacles.

[up] On the same pruning branch, into the fire it goes.

Could we at least get a redirect to "The New TV Tropes Happy Fun Time Mature Policy" as opposed to the <DATA EXPUNGED>-esque warning we have now? That kinda creeps me out.

[up]I'm pretty sure we were the SCP Foundation all along, it just wasn't formalized until an artifact went timey-wimey with what caused what and they so happened to get their name out first.

[up]No TV Tropes, you are the SCP! Actually, that reminds me, aren't we classified a -j type SCP?

We are indeed an SCP, just don't remember which. I believe we're a website with a memetic quality that keeps users from leaving, or ceasing to think about it, or something like that. Basically Tv Tropes Will Ruin Your Life in scp form.

TV Tropes is SCP-4445-j "a website, masquerading as a repository of common tropes from popular culture, that serves as a clearinghouse for the recruitment of SCP Foundation personnel from the general population."

Funny, I also thought of the comparison, but in a unserious What Do You Mean, It's Not Awesome? fashion. "First they came for the Fetish Fuel, and I didn't speak out because I wasn't kinky."

I suppose you could say that the fanfic recs are ultimately a sideline to the wiki's actual mission. The wiki runs on fan enthusiasm, so fans will want to share their favourite thing with others, but the Main pages are the point and the Recommendations are a sideshow, like the Funny Moments pages.

Which is not to say they aren't worth having, or that I haven't read and added to them.

[up]But fan works that have their own pages have enough heat behind them to be defined as their own works, right? A whole lot of creative stuff comes from playing within the walls of an established world, even if 90% is garbage and 9% is nothing special. So, we're not getting rid of fanfic altogether, right? wild mass guess

Oh, yes - and I wasn't actually knocking the work put into the fanfic rec pages - but the works pages for fanfic are just the same as the works pages for anything else, and just as notable, because every work is worth a page if you're up to writing it.

And I'm sure that we're not chasing off fanfic at all.

Can we hold a funding drive of some sort? I'd complain, but Fast Eddie is having to Shoot the Dog here; we need money, it's a fact of life.

Is there any way to donate? I'll be coming in to some money soon.

[up] It's. Not. About. Google. Or funding for that matter.

It's about Eddie's own morals. It's about how he's shocked to see just how much, for lack of a better term, shlock we have. If Google did anything, they simply opened his eyes. For better or for worse.

[up]I'll agree with you to a point, but seems odd that he is only jumping on this now as opposed to laying down as a ground rule. That, and someone really fell asleep at the wheel if Naughty Tentacles wasn't under the NSFG barrier to begin with, but that's neither here nor there.

[up] Again, Google was what caused Eddie to realize the tons of shlock on his site, hence why he acted on it now. If you were an admin of a fast growing user-generated website, you'd be surprised what you'd find if you leave it unchecked.

[up] I can't really argue with that without going in circles, but if porn control was a priority from the word go, he could have made it an explicit policy up front instead of cleansing by fire and hiding behind the Google. But if our wishes were fishes, we would all smell like bad fish after a couple of hours, And That's Terrible.
