I do like the Sugar Wiki idea as an alternative to cutting it. I still think the title is confusing as all hell - anyone think a petition for a rename is in order? And something must be done with that description if it does stay.

It's not just general gushing, though. It's gushing for a specific reason, namely their ability to elevate a work they're in. I can't say it's a trope, but it's more than just "I like them."

Ham and Cheese is already sort of about "actor elevating a work". I've never felt the supposed Rule Of Sean Connery page was needed.

I dunno about moving it. Frankly, I vote to cut it, but then again I tend towards cutting pages in general, so take my vote with a grain of salt.

I vote to cut it. It really looks like something that belongs on someone's userpage rather than standing on it's own.

Good. Let's redirect it to Sugar Wiki.Gushing.

The only functional difference is that a redirect keeps us the inbounds. Nothing else.

[up] I believe we need a PA Crowner before we should do something like that.

I would like to cut all the "Cage" examples. That's just bashing, and doesn't fit on the sugary area of the site.

Okay, I really like the currently unambiguously top voted option.

Cutting it with 500+ inbounds? No.

It's an idea that is discussed in general critical reviews, where an actor is able to elevate a mediocre project by their performance alone. Think about any actor that basically carries a movie like Robert Downey Jr for Iron Man or Johnny Depp for Pirates Of The Caribbean.

The opposite of this is basically known as bad acting, which by itself is not really a trope. Is The Matrix considered a bad movie because of Keanu Reeves? Or Speed? Or Bill And Ted? Not to get on too far a tangent but most movies aren't good or bad based on acting alone and even a mediocre actor can turn in a good performance with the right director, this trope is about an actor rising the quality through their own presence.

I can't count the number of times I've seen someone say they're only watching some mediocre new show because it has one of the Firefly cast members or an actor who inspires a similar following. This trope seems to be the closest thing we have to describing that phenomenon.

[up]It's technically an Audience Reaction, but if the crowner permits, I would like to repurpose this into said Audience Reaction. Or pull it through YKTTW.

Calling crowner. Remove the bashing and move to Sugar Wiki.

Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.

Sugar Wiki-ed the page, but wicks and complaining still need cleaning.

OK, so I've now removed most of the complaining, but I am not sure if removing all "negative" Sean Connery factors was the right thing to do - I'll go back if it wasn't.

On the other hand, I notice that most wicks seem to come from creator pages. Given that we have Creator Page Guidelines and these forbid subjectivity (and Rule of Sean Connery is surely a gushing page), should I simply remove them?

OK, given the lack of feedback, I've gone ahead and changed or deleted the wicks as appropriate and pinned this as an Audience Reaction.

Requesting lock.
