Well, when you put it like that, it sounds fucking badass.
Not surprising coming from the pope. That meshes with the Catholic church still clinging to a lot of backwards stances.
“We are living in a moment of annihilation of man as image of God. Today, children are taught this at school: that everyone can choose their own sex."
You mean, like God presumably can?
Christians have been describing us as made in God's image for years, but they always start complaining the minute we act like it.
Kids are also taught that they can get surgery to correct say a chest intent that gives them trouble breathing, science is cool like that.
Hell I'd argue that a trans person getting surgery to bring their body in line with their gender is simply bringing themselves closer to the image God intended for them, the same way I would be if I got my chest intent fixed.

“And the Bunny nails it!” ~ Gabrael “If the UN can get through a day without everyone strangling everyone else so can we.” ~ CyranBtw, what's the church's stance on surgery for intersex people? Are they consistent and are also against it?
Do they even acknowledge such people exist?
"And as long as a sack of shit is not a good thing to be, chivalry will never die."My own first thought, actually.
Pope says gender theory part of 'global war' on marriage, family
...
Yeah, no.
"Yup. That tasted purple."I find it a bit odd that someone who's willingly both celibate and single would be so heavily invested in "traditional marriage and family" in the first place. Maybe he's secretly jealous..?
Still a great "screw depression" song even after seven years. The article says he thinks marriage is the most beautiful thing in the world. And that he also says that god created men and women to become one flesh...
This pope is a fan of the beast with two backs... Don't ask too many questions.
I thought the whole point of celibacy in religious orders was meant to symbolise marriage to God.
...Don't ask how that works for male priests.
"Yup. That tasted purple."Francis is a pretty good pope, as far as things go, but every now and then he reminds you that he is nonetheless the sort of guy who gets elected pope.
The fact is that whole you will find progressives within the clergy and congregations when it comes to the establishment the Catholic Church is very much the definition of small-c conservative.
"Yup. That tasted purple."Honestly if gender theory really is a threat to traditional marriage then traditional marriage needs to die.

I've heard that the Bible actually refers to God with both feminine and masculine descriptions in the original languages, and 'he' gets, well, 'he' for the same reason the English language uses 'he' (sometimes) to refer to a non-specific person and stuff like that.
I heard that god was referred to exclusively with a gender neutral pronoun.
No. Early Yahwehisn actually shows signs of following a dual-in-one Lady-Lord idea of "God" — a fairly typical template for the region. Consider it a prototype for the Trinity concept.
But, schism, Baalism, consolidation during and post-Judges, the twin Kingdoms and later 'reinterpretations and edits have pretty much erased much of the idea, for all it's had traction in various shapes in QBL and other "unorthodox" schools of thought. However, The Song of Songs might be a holdover fragment based on older ideas. <shrugs>

I mean, on one level you've got to ask what a gender even means to a deity, but on the other if he chooses to identify as male then that's his business.
Yes, I did just suggest that God is trans.
God wouldn't so much be trans as He'd be beyond our conception of gender.

This is a signature. As I recall, the high god of the Yoruba faith is sometimes referred to as being gendeless- primarily because the god, Olodumare, is viewed as being so distant and abstract that something like gender simply doesn't apply.
It's like asking if the sun is a boy or a girl.

Helios and Apollo are boys, so...
In fact, the sun is considered male in many cultures.

Something I thought folks might get a kick out of: The Westboro Baptist Church is a Pokemon Go gym, and people have put up as its guard a Clefairy named Love is love.
