I do not believe someone questioning something is indicative of ill intent or even wrongdoing. - Maxima
IMX, the people who can question something without any ill intent are very, very rare. Normally, the people who question something are the people who are against it. The people with genuine (if poorly timed/phrased) curiosity usually research on their own, or just go on their way with niggling little questions in the back of their head. The genuine curious types usually get themselves straightened out by their dumb questions and getting dog-piled upon ... kind of like Max does in these threads. tongue I had my own misperceptions of Wicca corrected in such a fashion, so I can't completely rule it out as a learning method, at least when the people ganging up on you are willing to teach instead of use you just as a punching bag.

In a case of something I have to work on, I keep arguing with these people rather than know a lost cause when I see it.

I guess. I don't see who you're getting our of it. Are you trying to convince people conservative christens aren't evil or something else?

Depends on the region. Quebec is majority Catholic, much of the rest of the country is majority Protestant, there's much more religious diversity in the cities. Religious attendance has been dropping. It's very much a similar picture to what you see in the States. I can't tell you any more than official statistics could.

Share it so that people can get into this conversation, 'cause we're not the only ones who think like this.

[up][up][up][up]Oh, Canada didn't drag it's feet as much as we are with legalizing gay marriage though. Though there could be a number of factors in that.

[up][up]Were not saying your evil. We aren't even saying homophobic people are evil, (though some are).

Edit: Fast thread more arrows.

Being human, it goes without saying that some of them are, by virtue of some humans being evil*. Personally, I think Max is absolutely way over the evil line. tongue

Evil? I wouldn't go that far. I'd say the majority of our opposition is misguided and ignorant. Not exactly a good thing, but I prefer to reserve "evil" for the real villains out there.

I've seen somebody crazy say "Gay Pride parades are Christian Hate Parades because it is bragging about a Christian Sin" in that case I wonder how far he's willing to take that. Are trophies Christian hate because your not being humble enough? Are eating contest winners performing Christian hate for engaging in gluttony?

I wish Fundamentalists would stop thinking everything is about them.

The problem is you really cant. Theyve been brought up in a community environment that shuns thinking about the outside world as anything but sinful and to be avoided at all costs.

if theyre not willing to make the leap out of that bubble, then nobody can make it for them.

[up][up]

heh. I'm familiar with it because as a small child I lived in such a church environment. The Seventh-Day Adventist church publishes its own magazines, its own books, has its own private schools and its own college...seriously, if you never question what you're being told, its very easy to go all the way to graduating with a bachelors degree without ever stepping out of their information bubble.

Therein lied the problem with me. I was a voracious reader of books (and later the internet) and when 90% of the data says the 10% you're getting from a church is insanely wrong..

It just seems like homosexuals are the only group that get to vilify those who don't agree with them in any way.
There's a difference between disagreeing with someone and abridging their rights.

And, you mean *gay rights activists, not homosexuals, because there are homosexuals who are anti-gay. Do remember, "homosexual" isn't an opinion.

Even when it comes to vilifying anyone who doesn't agree with oneself, it's not just gay rights activists who "get to" do this. I've also seen atheists vilify all theists will no repercussions, for example.

[up] No. He means people who are in deep goddamn denial that they are gay.

At least some amount of homophobes are people who are gay themseves, refuse to admit it for one reason or anothger (usually upbringing) and therefore take it out on more openly gay people.
