What is the point of this page?

There is no narrative significance to this pattern, and it isn't even a real pattern beyond "these guys are reptiles and good guys." Some of the listed characters aren't even reptiles; Crimson Viper and Solid Snake are listed, even though their names more likely have to do with them being sneaky spies. It's equivalent to having "Heroically Aligned Pig" in that there is no connection between being reptilian and being good (Like there is in Reptiles Are Abhorrent), and it's just a list of heroic hogs.

The description doesn't establish anything, since the mythological importance is not reflected in the examples (Nor is it a modern day trope other than Snakes Are Sexy). It doesn't even work as a surprise inversion of Reptiles are Abhorrent, since many of the animals were specifically stated as being exceptions on that page.

I propose cut, because I can't even think of a trope this could be modified into.

Snakes' associations with immortality/youth/rebirth, and perhaps with water, earth, life, or femininity, can probably go to YKTTW. The first is definitely a trope. Wise snake may be a trope too.

But this page as a whole seems, well, not meaningful. As aversions aren't worth listing even on Reptiles Are Abhorrent, they sure aren't worth troping by themselves.

This got created shortly after Reptiles Are Abhorrent got purged a few months back of all the "Tropes are bad" description, excessive aversions, and the Real Life section that was mostly a place for reptile lovers to post links to reptiles that they considered cute as an example of "aversions". At least this doesn't include all the old Real Life examples.

If the trope was about when it subverted or averted Reptiles Are Abhorrent it would have been okay. But it's not.

If the trope was about using reptiles for their symbolical significance it would have been okay. But it's not.

If the examples had actually contained any information of why they belong on this page even as it is now it might have been a little better. But it's not.

Not thing to save here. Chainsaw forward and carry on.

If anyone wants to salvage anything out of this page, it's preserved on Sandbox.Heroically Aligned Reptile.

[up]Please don't cutlist something without making a note on the discussion page.

Anyway, this is done, and if someone needs the content Sandbox.Heroically Aligned Reptile is your friend.

We planning to keep the sandbox forever? Seems like cutting a page only to re-make in the sandbox for no particular purpose kinda misses the entire point.

It's there in case you think you can salvage something for a trope in YKTTW. If no one does, just cutlist the sandbox.

Why not just put it on YKTTW then rather than make a sandbox page that is bound to be forgotten forever and never used. The Sandbox isn't an supposed to be an archive of cut pages.

Because you need a sponsor for YKTTW. And there's no one who said they want to do it.

[up][up]Because no one's made the YKTTW yet and we don't sit around and wait for someone, taking up a TRS slot?

Yeps, we are done here.

Put it Up For Grabs. You don't need to sponsor it. At least in YKTTW, if it languishes or go nowhere, it'll be discarded. In Sandbox, it's just putting it there to be forgotten about.

Or if no one came forward to salvage it, then just cut it and don't keep a useless backup. Anyone wanting to save it can use the Webarchive to find an old version.

Or get it from the page history.

[up]Page histories aren't usually complete - you'd need to engineer it back into one piece.

And tehre is no harm in having a sandbox more than one.

No. A TRS which resolves with a YKTTW stays open, so Up For Grabs isn't an option. Someone has to take care of it, or it'll stay here forever.

Why YKTTW something that was cut for not being a trope?

We are not going to YKTTW it. The examples there may have enough in common to be used by someone who may want a viable trope in the future, just not this mess. A sandbox gives that option and does not require the thread to stay open for it.

Anyway, we're done here.

[up][up] Exactly. Why Sandbox something that A) wasn't a trope, and B) no one's offered to YKTTW.

The examples there may have enough in common to be used by someone who may want a viable trope in the future,

"In the future"? When? Do you hope years from now someone will Archive Binge on the TRS morgue, find this thread, find the sandbox page, and YKTTW the page? Coz that's pretty much the only way anyone would come across the sandbox page, which does nothing but take up server space and act as a gravestone to a dead page.

Because someone interested can bookmark the page and do their work when they want. We don't have to backlog for that.

As for server space, a single page of text means nothing compared to thousands of dead threads that take bandwidth.

And anyway, this was cut without a crowner. I'd feel uncomfortable without saving it somewhere, in case anyone wanted to contest it. If you freak out so much, just cutlist it.
