The Toonami Thread

Heh, just wanted to give some thoughts I had on Toonami.

I think there's a lot of good, sound logic behind getting rid of the reruns and I think Toonami will see dividends for it. No one, or at least very, very few people, are going to go out of their way to see premieres at 3 in the morning. The people who'd be tuning in at that point would be to watch stuff they could veg out to; and having those hour long blocks is a good way to provide viewers with something to veg out to. You can see in the ratings that there are actually upticks in the second half of the hour blocks.

And the other thing on my mind is I think we'll be beginning to see Anime Distributors begin to offer more reasonable prices. I think when Toonami started Funimation didn't want to show [as] it's hand; it didn't want to offer up a big franchise on the cheap if didn't benefit them. So they gave them this license that didn't really have much inherent value to it. I mean, maybe there'd been a little word of mouth when DMW released but it'd never been as big as it has become. And now that Toonami has proven itself as something that can drive DVD sales, I think it's in a prime position to work further with Distributors.

To your first point, I totally agree. Especially when you consider the fact that a lot of people who missed the first run are likely to DVR it and then watch later (which still counts towards ratings, at least according to DeMarco when asked a while back), so by eliminating the reruns, you get no change in the ratings those people provide AND at least some of them are now also DVRing the second half.

Edit: And to your second point, that's an angle I hadn't thought of. It makes a lot of sense, I just hope Funimation and other distributors are actually willing to look at it that way.

With such a broken power how is that guy only the second strongest of the Espada? Even massive arrogance shouldn't negate the fact that anyone remotely close to him is going to die.

Man, I like this show. The episodes always seem to end too quickly, though.

Yeah, Okay, this episode is pretty badass.

With all the Humongous Mecha here, I'm kinda now wishing there was a crossover with Gankutsuou.

As much as I like Jerry Jewell, I do not find him as an appropriate voice for that guy with the lipstick.

Yeah, I think there's something a bit off about the casting too.

There is something that just makes me laugh at this point about Casshern talking about himself suffering.

"these flowers reek of death"

... Was that a guy in drag?

...I think so.

Symbolism? I don't even know with this show anymore.

I will admit I am oddly enjoying this episode.

Oh, so that's why Casshern is immortal.

Poor guy. Gets a girl to fall in love with him, and she's slowly dying because of the Ruin whereas he's immortal. This is one of those times Casshern deserves to be mopey.
