Suggestion: Incorruptible Pure Pureness

I've noticed that the Incorruptible Pure Pureness trope lacks something. What is it now, oh yes, an image. It, and its alternates, should be of a truely good and heroic character. Someone who can withstand all the temptations in the world that evil can offer and not bend nor break. They can be ruthless when engaging true evil, but will never harm or wrong an innocent or cause senseless destruction, damage or injury.

"But down these mean streets a man must go who is not himself mean, who is neither tarnished nor afraid." — Raymond Chandler

A good image would be something that looks incorruptible and pure, not someone who is those things (although that also might be true).

How about this for a start? Or another of Detective Hartigan.

Wonder Woman?

Inspiring others to worship truth and justice [1]

Probably the only known character to have ever hugged Superman in costume without a leg pop [2]

I don't think holding a gun speaks against corruption, truth to be told.

I also think it might be a very hard trope to visualise in a picture.

Not sure about Wonder Woman. At best, it's better than nothing.

[up]Even if its holding a gun to Roark Jr. and his flunkies? Besides, Hartigan could just be an image link.

[up][up]How the fuck is that visible in the picture?

At first I didn't realize I needed all this stuff...

[up]It's not, I was just making a point. We wouldn't be arguing this if Hartigan was weilding a sword and holding a shield. We wouldn't make a point about how holding a sword and sheild have nothing to do with standing up to corruption.

[up] Not so sure I'd see the trope anyway.

A Knight In A Shining Armor, perhaps. If he was riding through the Valley Of Temptation ignoring everything there.

The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything.

Agrippa: I think you're arguing the how well the example fits the trope, rather than how well the image shows the trope (to people who haven't experienced the work).

Its just a suggestion, you don't have to use Hartigan for the main image or even as an image link.

We're not attacking your example, we just want to find the best image for the page.

I'd love to find something Piffany-ish, but there's so much to go through that I'm not sure I'm going to have time at the moment...

It's hard to fine a good definition of a pure individual. The only thing I can think of is an angel given they're supposed to be pure individuals.

[up] If you right-click on the image result and select "view image", it takes you to a page with just the image (not the frame or site), and a shorter URL. Enclose the URL in brackets [[like this]], and you'll get [1]. To be honest, I don't see the trope in that at all. I don't care for any of this thread's suggestions, really. Especially the guy with the gun.

How about Jesus resisting temptation: [1]

Another take by Gustav Dore: [2] and in color: [3]

Or, if we want something a bit less religious, here's a knight: [4]

Other than Jesus Christ, the best example of which I could think is Sir Galahad.

'The poem begins with Sir Lancelot attending a banquet given by King Pellas, the father of Elaine. The king decides that he wants Sir Lancelot to lie with his daughter. De Beverly says that “High God was urging him to this”; he claims that God is behind the union of Lancelot and Elaine because He knows that from it Galahad will be born. Galahad will be:

"the best of Arthour's Knights,
Who should achieve the quest of the Sangrael
Which only they shall see whose lives are pure.
No bravery is such a virtue as the Graele may gain."
- Thomas de Beverly, The Birth of Sir Galahad - 1925

King Arthur and Sir Lancelot can never achieve this honor because their lives have not remained pure. Of the three knights who are untainted by sin – Sir Perceval, Sir Bors, and Sir Galahad – Galahad is the only one predestined to achieve this honor of attaining the Holy Grail.'

Just to throw in my opinion, the point of an image (to avoid Just A Face And A Caption) is to show the gist of the trope without requiring any background knowledge. Since Light Is Good is still a practically instinctive reaction, I think that that should be the leading criteria for deciding on an image.

I'm glad I checked the thread before posting stuff, because I think 18.1 and 18.2 are about as good as we can do for this. 18.1 is probably the better pic for our purposes, although the Gustave Dore fanboy in me really likes 18.2.

[up] That's pretty good, but I don't think it's quite as good as the Jesus pics.

I like 18.3 but I also like 18.1 because Jesus has a very 'above it all' expression
