Now and then, I see Bad Writing bluelinked casually on the wiki to call a work a case of bad writing. That's not what it's for. It's an index of tropes that may be Bad Writing. It has way too many wicks and inbounds for an index, and from some random wicks I've looked at, it's used a lot on examples, as a pothole or just Complaining about alleged Bad Writing. Except in rare cases where it's used to link to the index, I don't see why an index about bad writing tropes should be used on any trope examples at all. Even putting it on trope descriptions is misusing it.

Easy solution: clean up the misuse and name it "Bad Writing Tropes" or "Bad Writing Index" so people don't use it to accuse something of being "bad writing".

I'm in favour of this change as well as making Bad Writing seem like a red link. We shouldn't encourage complaining.

First off, the TRS tag must be a Wiki Word. Second, 188 wicks for an index is bizzarre. I think that several entries can be put to the tropes indexed here.

I can also get behind a fake redlink, but we'll have to rename it before Explanation

Supporting a faux-redlink.

Also support a faux-redlink, as long as it doesn't screw anything up.

There are several fake redlinks in holding pattern - Completely Missing The Point, Badass Labcoat (I think), YMMV, Your Mileage May Vary and Your Milage May Vary. This might take some time to be executed.

I can think of many instances, though, where it would be useful to point to the index.

Read the hottip. We can't make the index a fake redlink - we are renaming the index and turning the current name into a fake redlinked redirect to the new name.

I'm of the opinion that indexes should always have the word "Index" or "Tropes" in their name so that they aren't confused for an individual, non-super trope.

Maybe call it the Index Of Bad Writing?

[up]I think Bad Writing Index sounds more natural.

Is it already crowner time here?

I don't have any complaints to renaming and redlinking. But we should definitely not have a crower, as that will just ruin the page forever, and the only thing we can do then is to go out and buy a hotdog at the stand outside my window (but they're out of mustard).*

I like Bad Writing Index. That's far less likely to be potholed than just Bad Writing.

I support renaming this. Anytime you see an index with 100+ wicks that is not an indexed supertrope, you can safely assume that it is being misused.

Not to mention: Why does an index have a laconic and a quotes page?

Did Not Do The Research has it too, and other trope indexes as well.

I'd prefer to get Bad Writing out of the name entirely, if not cut. Unless everything on the index is a YMMV, it's calling everything on the index bad, and Tropes Are Not Bad.

Well, exist non-ymmv in the page. However, good part of the non-ymmv of the page are about "accidents"- Broken Aesop and Moral Dissonance rarely are not accidental.

About Broken Aesop, quoting Deboss in the "Broken and Clueless Aesop should be subjective" thread :"Well, I think we could swing Broken Aesop, since it's not about whether or not it worked, but whether or not the story didn't actually support the aesop, much like the Informed tropes. That said, they're likely to become bitchfests due to the nature of the tropes." And about Moral Dissonance, it is about the hero contradicting their already-established morals and nobody noting in-story.

Calling crowner in favor of renaming and faux redlinking.

EDIT: And new crowner hooked up.
