This trope was renamed from Talks to Squirrels. It is now more obvious that the "new" image does not illustrate the trope.

Suggest switching back to the previous image:

Or the same image, but in higher quality.

The old crowner also had these two, the former even being in the green, but they probably pertain more to the old trope than the new one...?

The definition didn't change. Just the name. They were bad before too.

Actually, the Kronk one was the frontrunner up until the Squirrel Girl image came up, so I'd be loathe to call it "bad".

Just because it got a lot of votes doesn't make it an example. It's Not An Example. Pretty much all of the options on that crowner were Not An Example. Stand by "bad".

People suggested images and voted according to the name, not the definition, which is weird.

Why is Kronk not an example? Was there some indication he would logically be able to speak squirrel? Is there any other talking animal in the cartoon other than Cuzco?

Because that's a permanent/known ability, not "The heroes are at a loss. Then The Ditz (or Cloudcuckoolander) steps forward and proceeds to communicate. Everyone is stunned that CCL appears to Suddenly Always Have Known That." Unless that is a one-off gag that I'm unaware of, haven't seen the movie.

I'm not sure that we'd be able to succinctly capture the definition in one pic.

The OP one does IMO.

It does become a recurring trait of Kronk, but it comes out of nowhere. He's not some nature boy, he's Izma's pet dude, whose introduction is accidentally knocking himself out trying to kill an insect.

[up] I haven't seen the episode. If she is, indeed, suddently and without any prior introduction able to speak squirrel, it qualifies. However, the picture could just be a girl admiring a squirrel.

Hm, Kronk fits then. Not as strong as PPG tho.

I think her kneeling, open mouth, and the reactions of the other two pretty clearly say "talking to the squirrel". Also, her hair color and style say "The Ditz or Cloudcuckoolander". I haven't seen the episode either, not talking about having context.

I think the "this is ridiculous" reaction of the other two girls makes the Power Puff Girls image the best one suggested so far.

I like the three panels in the third row of this comic.

Not the strongest example, since Fighter was just speaking gibberish based off of a theory. He doesn't actually know how to speak Lufenian properly.

I have a message from another time...

And we're done. Squirrel Girl's off the page and it's tagged to not add an image without making a new IP thread. Locking up.
