Wowie. What a freaking mess.
I will say this: spanking for fanservice and spanking as punishment should be separate. They may overlap, but when used for kids, the latter almost always applies without the former.
And god, the bullets have to leave.
"If you aren't him, then you apparently got your brain from the same discount retailer, so..." - FighteerI remember seeing this in YKTTW way back. From the description at the time, I got the impression that it was supposed to be about fights (as in, physical brawling) where one person gets the upper hand and starts spanking the other. It was written with a very fanservice-y bent, and definitely didn't include parents spanking children.
Truth be told, I'm afraid of reading the examples.
I don't think it's that bad, but it certainly needs cleanup.
I agree that there are two tropes:
- Spanking for fanservice or comedy. I don't see a significant difference between those two. Both are for pleasure of the audience.
- Spanking as punishment.
The bullets do have a point, some of them, but it can probably be included in the description. Some of them should go poof, though.
-
The bottom has outgrown such measures (and by that, we mean a big butt); - The bottom is also Too Kinky to Torture; This one sounds like a source of comedy, but I didn't see any examples in a quick scan.
- The act is warned by a "If you act like a child, I'll treat you like one" speech; Sounds familiar, but fits in the description, if anything.
-
The act also becomes or followed by a Crowning Moment Of Heartwarming; -
It's a Fetish for the giver, for the receiver or for both.I'm not sure I see the relevance here. - Punctuated Pounding May be included.
Edit: Oh, and I think any direct links should be cut.

The Internet misuses, abuses, and overuses everything. What about spanking as punishment that is also comedic and/or for fanservice? That boundary is imaginary. "Spanking" is not a trope.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Corporal Punishment is "spanking/whipping/etc. for punishment". It describes itself as a supertrope to Spank the Cutie.

Calling someone a pedant is an automatic Insult Backfire. Real pedants will be flattered. So non-comedic examples are Corporal Punishment and comedic examples are Spank the Cutie? What is to split?
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. If this is about comedy, take "cutie" out of there. The name's apparently a snowclone of Break the Cutie or Corrupt the Cutie but the description states that there's no connection.
Spank the Cutie describes itself on the laconic as "Spanking or another similar corporal punishment used for comedy or fanservice". Looking at the page, most of the examples involve adults getting spanked, and most of the ones involving kids look like they should be on Corporal Punishment. The examples on Spank the Cutie mostly involve adult women being spanked by adult men, frequently in contexts of reasserting masculine dominance and / or Fetish Fuel scenarios. The few examples of men getting spanked seem to be the genderflip of that.
So make it about what it wants to be about: spanking an adult to show dominance (which can be comedic), or as fetish material.

Calling someone a pedant is an automatic Insult Backfire. Real pedants will be flattered.Prefer not making distinctions based on whether something is Fetish Fuel.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. If it's an attractive woman being spanked, that's going to be Fetish Fuel for the spank-enthusiasts no matter what the author intended. Lump it in.
Calling someone a pedant is an automatic Insult Backfire. Real pedants will be flattered.Unless someone isn't attracted to women or is repulsed by spanking. Fetish Fuel is subjective, shouldn't be the basis of a definition.
edit: Ah, "for the spank-enthusiasts". I am sure there are empty armor enthusiasts for whom an invocation of Animated Armor is Fetish Fuel. Doesn't matter.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. The thing is, this is a very common kink, and a significant number of the examples are playing to that kink. Including the Spirit example in the page image, for one. Especially in older works, it tends to be a kind of Getting Crap Past the Radar scenario, where you can have something with physical contact, dominance overtones, and maybe some clothing "rearrangement" without being explicitly about sexuality. I don't think there are many cases of Animated Armor where the creators were deliberately teasing the "empty armour fetish" crowd.
Calling someone a pedant is an automatic Insult Backfire. Real pedants will be flattered."Serious or not" is a much sharper boundary than "fanservice or not".
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Again, what I suggested: "So make it about what it wants to be about: spanking an adult to show dominance (which can be comedic), or as fetish material."
The people with a thing for that sort of thing will have a thing for it whether or not it's deliberately played for fanservice. So no, I don't think it's worth trying to sort out the ones that are fanservice. I'm suggesting we should leave them lumped together (as they are now) and be done with it. Just adjust the description a bit and move the examples involving authority-figures spanking kids to Corporal Punishment.
Calling someone a pedant is an automatic Insult Backfire. Real pedants will be flattered. The suggestion that this may be followed by Punctuated Pounding may need, erm, more context. Or we could just rename Punctuated Pounding.
Sorry. I don't see "creepy" part. But it's just because every time i see this title, ends up with me laughing too hard to read a whole line for the next minute or so. Clean it, but leave it...
...And even I make no pretense Of having more than common sense - R.W.WoodNow I'm hearing Spank the Cutie to the tune of a Lords of Acid song.
what song? "I Must Increase My Butt"?
...And even I make no pretense Of having more than common sense - R.W.Wood"Spank My Booty."
... you're welcome.
Oh wow, just discovered this trope...ew.
Either send off to the Fetish Fuel wiki or drop all fanservice and make it a comedy trope because it IS a device used in comedy. Maybe Too Old For A Spanking? Comedic Spanking?
Yeah, whether or not a particular scene turns someone on is something they can keep to themself.
Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan. You're failing the No Prudishness clause. This trope is sexualized in media. If the media presents spanking as something sexual (and there are a lot of works that do) that's a trope. We trope sexual things. It's part of media.
Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickI am extremely socially liberal. That is not my objection. It's not exactly that it's creepy, it's that it attracts creepiness. Not all sexual topics do.

Becky: Who are you? The Mysterious Stranger: An angel. Huck: What's your name? The Mysterious Stranger: Satan.Mind you, I certainly don't think that comedic and sexualised spankings/other corporal punishment should be the same trope. That's just begging for a split.

What's precedent ever done for us?
Crown Description:
What would be the best way to fix the page?
Mother of Odin, where to begin with this one? Not only does it have a rich dose of creepy in both description and examples (seriously, 'the act also becomes or is followed by a Crowning Moment Of Heartwarming'), but it's so all over the place that it's hard to say what the actual trope is. Suggestions, folks?
