I don't think Shredder has ever had a 'definitive' version as such. 2003's came close, but he was too... alien, and his backstory too convoluted. The original comics' was too short lived. Archie Comics' version was cool, but also was given relatively little to do. 1987's suffered way too much Villain Decay. The movies' started strong, but had a 'meh' return appearance.
The 'Ultimate' Shredder is probably a mix and match of the different elements that made each one of them cool (2003's badassness, the comics' connection to Hamato Yoshi, 1987's Technodrome, and so on) existing only in the fandom's hearts.
Well that makes me feel better for those working on it!
And apparently its premiere got better ratings than Avatar The Legend Of Korra.
GOH! JII! RAH!I bet Nick was blown away by the ratings and fan reaction! They'd be stupid NOT to greenlight a second season!
Saw the premiere re-run on Sunday, and it's pretty good. Not spectacular, but I'm interested enough to keep watching.
But there is ONE thing I call total bullshit on: no way New York streets are that empty at any point on any day.
I cough that up to CG budgets.
True, but that was the one aspect of it that really stood out to me.
And apparently its premiere got better ratings than Avatar: The Legend of Korra.
Oh, poo. It's obvious why they got better ratings: certain elements aimed at certain demographics. And the fact Korra is a sequel.
The moment they started having fart jokes I just rolled my eyes and went "that smells of Executive Meddling". I seriously can't picture a bunch of writers going "OH AND A FART JOKE COULD GO HERE THAT'D BE HILARIOUS".
The hell? You make it sound far worse than it actually was.
Well, no offense to Avatar, but its Teenage Mutant Motherfucking Ninja Turtles (TMMNT). Its going to get support no matter what on the premiere. There's at least two separate fandoms looking in on it as well as the potential new fandom (you know, the kids of this generation).
Avatar appeals to a much narrower demographic, unfortunately.
I think I'll judge this series entirely on how it handles Mousers. Because I like Mousers.

Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireI actually quite like this incarnation of TMNT. The characters had endearing traits and were rather cute.
Tall Splinter and Young April was a bit weird at first, but they worked out well. Not sure why people didn't like the animesque. It kept things fresh for me at least. XD
Always be ready to do the unusual and unexpected.I dislike the anime-esque because it seems out of place and rather overused, but only time will tell with that.
I still don't like this Splinter's appearance.
Mega Man fanatic extraordinaireOut-of-place?
Ninjas. Animated.
Hey guys, in the middle of the pilot, I love this so far!
I like the turtles, well, I'm sort of off put that after two incarnations they finally decided "Let's replace Mikey's surfer dude voice with Beast Boy." which I'm not 100% okay with yet. The other three sound familiar in a "You've done these characters before haven't you" sort of way only younger.
I like the fights, I like the varied heights and weights and markings, even their masks, not sure if I'm cool about April being a kid, but meh.
I like that Donny sounds like a nerd, but where have i heard that voice before?
Those robots have to be the most annoying things on earth, they talk like Mojo Jojo if he was less charming.
Not sure if I care for this "Donny x April" thing they're trying to do.
But I think I like Master Splinter the most, his new look is a sight to behold. I mean one look at the guy and I thought "Oh my God, Master Splinter looks like a total badass now!" A bit tall I admit, but I can live with that.
Hmm, Shredder I not as.... Raspy as I prefer him to be but he sounds menacing enough.
The Blog The ArtDonatello is voiced by Rob Paulsen, Raphael's original voice actor, and several, several, several other voice credits.
To clarify on the "better ratings than Korra": TMNT only got superior ratings in the target demo (young boys), while Korra has the advantage of OVERALL ratings, which clicked more on the teen/adult areas.
So, TMNT appealed to Nick's expected audience more, hence why it was more "successful" than Korra, not the overall ratings.
Latest blog update (November 5th, 2022).The premiere was nice.
My angry rant blog!I have watched part 1 and 2 three times and I am still not tired of it and I am completely in love with this new version.
Those anime expressions still worry me. It doesn't hurt the show, but it seems... unnecessary.
One Strip! One Strip!I can't remember if people complained about those in Teen Titans when that started.
Who died after his first appearance and never came back... hrm...
