All-Purpose Namespace Icon Thread: Sandbox.Namespace Icons

Go To

This thread deals with all issues concerning the icons used for namespaces and their buttons, including proposals for icons for new namespaces and bugs with existing icons.

When submitting an icon, the icon images should be exactly 16x16 png with a transparent background. A gif can also be used, but png is usually better. Also, the naming convention is important. It should be the namespace in lowercase.

I am compiling a list of namespaces that need icons, and icons for those name spaces. This would be preferred to be done quickly because I've convinced Eddie to hook them up when I get them complied. I will be editing the OP as we go.

NOTE: Use the link to the sandbox in the thread title to see what still needs to be decided on.

Subpages that still need icons:

  • Animation/
  • FanWorks/
  • Manhua/
  • Sandbox/
  • Timeline/

Subpages that already have icons hooked up (please note, this list has been collapsed into a note, so that the floating header post isn't huge)

Links to installation-ready icons here and forward.

[up] Oh yeah, I forgot about that.

I can't think of anything for SelfDemonstrating/.

I found this for the Wiki/ logo, although there may be copyright/trademark concerns (never mind image quality).

I have a suggestion for Web Video. Two actually, they are video button icons. One is from You Tube and the other is generic green button.

yt

green one

nearly the same green one...

I like the second, due to a) better visibility and b) less YouTube association.

Haven't we already got an icon for WebVideo/? The sandbox page lists this under it:

We can always propose new ones.

Good point.

I think the one on the page is best.

I must have overlooked it. I kind of find the square around the blue icon ugly-ish though. But if the crowner has decided, ok then.

I think I like best the green one.

Wasn't there a suggestion for Awesome Music/ that was basically the Music/ icon overlaid on the Awesome/ icon?

Well, I thought about it, and I figure that the best image for Franchise/ would probably be a globe (to show that it's a worldwide thing, I guess). It's not perfect, but it works.

There are quite a lot of options as far as globes are concerned.

The first thing I think of that would suit a globe icon is Website/.

An Infinity symbol? Reuse the Main icon?

[up][up] Website/ would probably be better with something else, like the WWW pyramid or maybe a cursor.

[up] I'm not too fond of either of those suggestions.

For AlternateRealityGame/, I really have no clue what to use.

"Ride/", perhaps a picture of a train ride?

Also, what are all of these, in order?

I don't know what some of them are for, so I skipped them.

  • The magnifying glass icon is for Analysis/.
  • The question mark symbolnote  is for Trivia/ and Synopsis/.
  • I'm pretty sure the lightning bolt is for ComicBook/.
  • The two people icon is for Characters/.
  • The star medal is for Awesome/.
  • Darth Vader's helmet is for DarthWiki/.
  • The blue book is for Literature/.
  • Felix the Cat is the icon for WesternAnimation/.
  • The film strip is the icon for Film/.
  • The emoticon is for Funny/.
  • The pen and paper is for FanficRecs/.
  • The controller is for VideoGame/.
  • The cupcake is for SugarWiki/.
  • The heart is for Heartwarming/.
  • The roach used to be for JustBugsMe/ before it became Headscratchers/.
  • I'm fairly sure the L was meant for Laconic/, but didn't get implemented for whatever reason.
  • The guy in a tinfoil hat is for WMG/.
  • The icon of Catwoman was for FetishFuel/ before its examples got purged.
  • The light bulb is for Fridge/.
  • The creepy face (?) is for NightmareFuel/.
  • The scared guy icon used to be for HighOctaneNightmareFuel/ before it was merged with regular Nightmare Fuel.
  • The TV is for Series/.
  • The quill is for SoYouWantTo/ and potentially Creator/.
  • The drop of water is for TearJerker/.
  • The blue quotation marks icon is for Quotes/.
  • The orange speech bubbles are for each page's Discussion tab.

I'm pretty sure the lightning bolt is not for Comic Book/, or at least not just that. I'm blanking on what it would be though, maybe something having to do with the forums?

The L used to be used for Laconic, but I guess that stopped at some point.

Of the unmentioned:

  • The house is the Trope Repair Shop icon.
  • The lightning bolt is for ComicBook/ but it doesn't appear in the tabs (we'll have to rectify that)
  • The red scroll is Discontinuity/
  • The controller is for Game/. Not VideoGame/
  • The rainbow is HoYay/
  • The ugly face is Horrible/
  • The temple is Pantheon/
  • The bin is TitleBin/
  • The crashing face is WallBanger/
  • The anarchist symbol is AATAFOVS/

Videogmr: The question mark symbol is actually an interrobang, a combination of ? and !.

That was the amazing part. Things just keep going.

There was some talk about restoring Game/ as a super-namespace for works that don't neatly fit into other namespaces (which would require the image to be migrated), but that would be a topic for discussion elsewhere.

No, it is for Comic Book. It only shows up in watchlists right now, however.

The L used to be used for Laconic, but I guess that stopped at some point.
That's what I was told when I asked about it several months ago, yes. Wouldn't mind seeing that get implemented.

L works for Laconic/, actually. Just that Laconic usually shows a full-text tab instead of an icon one.

If that happens we would need something else for Game. Game/ would be for stuff that doesn't fit Video Game or Tabletop Game...
