I... Don't actually know. My dad is the reason I got into video games, my brother games just as much as I do, and I go to school for game design and 3D art, so I'm literally surrounded by gamers. My mom always leaves the room when games come up though, so...
I think my dad tried to show her portal once and it just made her sick. The only games I've ever seen her play have been tetris and a iPhone game. So my guess is she still appreciates them, she just doesn't have the time for them, so it all sounds greek to her.
Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes. The consensus while I was in high school was "Wow. What a nerd", regarding anything I played.
Everyone here plays nothing but fucking Pro Evo and Call Of Duty, stuff like that. It's pretty annoying.
That commercial is just fucking genius. I don't care if it's poorly written or Snake's actor looks nothing like him, it was fantastic.

I tend to not talk about my hobby. My tastes are too* from what everyone else's are. So I can't really connect with too many people when they talk about Skyrim and Co D.
I can certainly hold a conversation about Portal 2 though, a lot of people I know have gone through it.

So. Let's all pause for a moment to smell what the Rock was, is, and forever will be... cooking.—Cave JohnsonWell, one time that "Michael" commercial (This one) came on TV while my parents were watching something or other. On all the gaming sites people generally talk about how it's so awesome, and when my parents watched it they were just like "The hell was that". I found it rather amusing.
Other than that...I don't know anyone who plays the same kind of games that I do (except my older brothers, but they hardly ever play games anymore...and also one's at college and one doesn't talk to me anymore. Oh well). So I don't really talk about it much. My mom thought that Portal was funny, so there's that.

Welcome to th:|Beorc, you should watch the Dad Plays Portal series on Youtube.
People are pretty cool about games round here. Most folks only play Call f Duty and Skyrim or Wii Fit and Just Dance, but very rare I see anyone react negatively to other games.
Easy street has no parking signs.I'm an art major. I dont know any normal people.
My family's made up of gamers of various sorts so I don't quite know...

Someone who is in the middle of the bell curve in all aspects.

So. Let's all pause for a moment to smell what the Rock was, is, and forever will be... cooking.—Cave JohnsonI don't believe such a thing exists.
It depends on your area. Basically whatever combination of traits that are perceived as or actually are most common about you.

http://steamcommunity.com/id/Xan-Xan/Normal is just a setting on the dryer.
Eh, I'm the most hardcore gamer among my friends (not that that's saying much), but it isn't that I'm a recluse or anything. My family's usual opinion is that I could do with less vg's, but I actually waste more time on idiotic websites than gaming.
Likes many underrated webcomicsEh, my dad's the 'killing our children' Moral Guardian type. When challenged on why VGs are worse than the TV, this was how the conversation ended.
"Because they are" (followed by the "bigger than you" argument, although I'm 18 now, so that really doesn't wash.)
Curse the ill fortune that led you to me.Most "normal" people I know play Cawadoody, so they don't think badly of gamers.
That they are an unnessary distraction. I equate them with books and movies and the computer. Dad and Mom...not so much.
Persona 3 Portable LiveblogI think the mistake here is setting up a false dichotomy between "normal" and "gamer". Gaming is the norm these days. Almost every single teenager and young adult plays games these days, and your average gamer is around 30 years old. The vast majority of the grown population in first world nations (and many people in developing nations) are gamers.
Personally, I think it's high time we ceased to behave like a misunderstood minority.
Swordsman Troper — Reclaiming The Blade — WatchBeing a gamer is the norm around here. Admittedly it's usually some sports game or DOTA or FPS.

Instead, I have learned a horrible truth of existence...some stories have no meaning.@Madass: It may come down to am atter of degrees. Like, earlier I mentioned that everyone I know plays games, but I play anything I get my hands on - I'm a studying designer, so I can take them apart and use them even when they're bad - so thinking about it, if I were to talk to my brother about half the games I played and why I likeed them or why they were good, I'd get blank stares. So yeah. Even when everyone around plays video games, there's a difference between playing COD or skyrim now and again and playing Psychonauts or ordering a Shin Megami Tensei game online. The point, I guess, is how much you are when compared to the people around you.
I do agree that we need to stop acting like a misunderstood minority, though. That attitude is the source of a lot of problems within the gaming community and industry, like why people will bitch about the gay scenes in Mass Effect 3 and the whatnot. Gaming culture is expanding rapidly to encompass all communities, but the culture still acts like it's almost exclusively 20 year old white males. It's not helping our public image, and it's hell on developers who actually want to branch out a bit.

Birthright: an original web novel about Dragons, the Burdens of Leadership, and Mangoes. Most people here play Skyrim (Which I love), Call Of Duty, maybe Battlefield, and FIFA 12.
Only some people play any other games.
FIMFiction Account MLPMST PageNeither of my housemates are gamers, nor are most of my friends. Heck I'm really not much of one either...it'd probably be the thing I'd miss the least about my life if I got marooned on a deserted island. That said, most people I know just view as another hobby albeit a slightly geekier one than most.
"You want to see how a human dies? At ramming speed." - Emily Wong.
"normal" here i mean people that dont follow game news and play game occasionally not as primary hobby.
they probably only know few block buster like COD, Pokemon, and FF. but not lesser one like Super Meat boy, Vanquish, and Disgaea.
they probably dont notice or know some simple technical stuff like AA or FPS.
anyway enough talk. this is what "normal" people around me think about game
- apparently ranting board doesnt have and effect. 10 years old boy seem have no problem playing mature game like COD or Go W.
- PS 3 HAVE BEST GRAPHIC! yes more than PC. justified hardly many people around me have PC gaming. most of them play PS 3. but even then when i show them a game trailer that obviously from PC i.e BF 3. they insisted that it from PS 3. some of them insisted that PS 3 have better hardware than any PC!
- Handheld game seem not so popular (as general not just PSP and DS but also IOS). sure sometimes they play their phone. but usually they use it for browsing internet or hearing music
- EA is kinda popular in here. mostly because sport division. also worth noting that most of EA bitching is come from PC community not Console community (which what most of my friend have)
- most of them seem dont care weather their game is from Japan or western. most popular Japaneses game is fighting game like tekken and MVC 3.
- Gamesharing is popular
- as you my expect they buy COD every year. i did ask the question why they do that. they say it fun game eve thought they can feel each iteration feel familiar
how about you?
