It uses Open GL instead of Direct X.
Late to the party yet again, but just picked the game up and dove into it blind. Being familiar as I am with Terraria, I've certainly had a few Damn You, Muscle Memory! moments already.
Mmm, since the game seems to be one of those perpetual beta sorts, anyone heard any mention of plans to streamline the game's inventory system? When compared to something like Terraria it feels really clunky to me right now.
I believe the ship upgrades will help increase your inventory space. If you're talking about stuff like an auto-sort function for dumping your supplies quickly, then no, not yet.
I found a grenade launcher in a crate during the Erchius mission.
Then I died.
Next time it'll be even easier, since the fleshfiends attack in groups of two, so splash damage. However, they hit awfully hard even with steel armor on.
But... what about the guy with a big-ass glowing four-leaf clover who whooped my ass with said clover? Is that a sub-boss of some kind?
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisThere are two types of monsters in that mission. The crab claw all pink beasts with the flesh splatter effect and some wielding melee weapons and wearing armor that are bullet sponges. Kite the enemies and use elevated positions as they have hard time jumping up. Hit and run on a few enemies at the edges makes taking them on easier. Having a shield is very handy should get caught flat footed or can't escape. It might buy you just enough time to get away and heal.
Who watches the watchmen?Huh. Figured as much. So, in case of tool-wielding maniacs, just try plonking them to death from up high? Because the puking ones usually keep their distance, hit for less and aren't hard to dodge.
Also, is the location of spacesuit armor parts fixed or do they change randomly?
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisFixed. There are three hidden chests.
Who watches the watchmen? The dungeon is not randomly generated, barely anything changes around except for the random loot within the storage containers throughout the level. And the one exception to all of that is the three hidden red containers with the journal logs and pieces of the spacesuit. Too bad it doesn't actually do it's intended function, it's just cosmetic.
Huh, there's like actual quests and dungeons? Never gotten further than the first boss and the tutorial stuff.
You should've already been receiving quests once you arrived at the Gateway outpost. They're mostly simple fetch quests though, with some bordering on annoying. The coffee making mission comes to mind, since she demands each of the items individually and not all at once. Really forces you to run back and forth from the outpost to your ship until she finally requests for the steel spoon and mug.
Those are the basis for the future quests they want to change it up a bit,.
Who watches the watchmen?Oh, when she requested the spoon I pretty much flipped my shit.
But I was lucky with the oil, I beam down to a desert planet, walk two screen widths left (having to fight two cultists and a particularly angry caged monkey) and find out huge lakes of oil in the open. Enough to forge a hundred steel bars or thereabouts.
As for the fetch quests, find the guy who gives you the cake quest, and have some wheat and a cooking table handy. It's insanely fast and the reward is decent.
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisI'm so fucking talented I died falling off a platform during the Erchios boss fight.
Also, there are FOUR space suit parts in four crates. Three of those crates contain codex entries as well.
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisYeah sorry forgot about the backpack part. :P.
Mad talent falling off that platform bro.
Who watches the watchmen?I got hella lucky with the loot on that fight recently; one of the crates had a grenade launcher with a fairly low energy cost.
Grenade launchers are boss no matter the energy cost. I can fire four or five shots from mine, but it's enough for that mission. Even the melee moontants.
"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisShield + GL is awesome.
Grind the mission a couple times. It is worth it for some pixels and maybe a better weapon.
Who watches the watchmen?Sounds like I'm going to have to run that mission again, I got to skip it because I ran it in the Unstable. There used to not be a boss battle, I may as well see what it's like.
So when I see that people have had "no problem" with the boss, I'm under the assumption that I just suck. I played the mission... four times before I got to the boss? And then I ragequit once the boss proper killed me. Gonna retry momentarily.
Also, you can get grenade launchers from the randomly generated crates!? I've gotten plenty of other guns, but haven't seen a grenade launcher yet.
If a majority agree, does it make it right? If a murderer is acquitted by the masses, is their crime vindicated?I got two launchers (one-handed, say what you will but the fact that you can wield a flashlight with one is helpful), an assault rifle and a shotgun. After the first time, when you figure out where the heavy hitters are and how the boss works, it gets surprisingly easy.

"what the complete, unabridged, 4k ultra HD fuck with bonus features" - Mark Von LewisOne thing I've found immensely helpful once you get radiation protection: explore all of the alien planets you find until you find the purple alien raygun-thing. Does over 500 damage per shot and one-hit kills most wildlife and the Floran hunters from the party mission.
Would you guys say the game as it is is worth its price? Not accounting for future patches, just its current state.
I have put in some good hours on this game since the latest stable. The mods and Mp server help a lot.
Who watches the watchmen?Personally, I'd prefer it to be about $5 less or so. Quite fun and I'd rank its longevity about the same as terraria's, but I've had a lot of crashes and frame rate issues with it in certain spots.
Guess I'll have to try out the Open GL for playing the game from here on, see how that goes. I kinda forgot though, what exactly is the difference between the normal run operation and Open GL?
