He makes a good point, but you can still technically purchase P.T. by buying a used PS 4 with it installed. You can do similar things for all removed digital games. It's not practical if you don't have a lot of money but you can still experience any game you want if you're willing to pay the price.

Which can still be hard to do because of the way that doing so violates copyright law.

For instance, PS4s advertised as having P.T. installed have been taken down from eBay because the people selling them are not authorized distributors to sell P.T. It's the legal equivalent to selling bootleg discs that have downloadable games burned onto them.

That and, if the whole Flappy Bird Saga is anything to go by, anyone with it installed on their system is going to charge an outrageous sum.

So there's been a series of tweets about a thing.

Might lead to a video or Jim doing an interview.

Either way, thought it was neat.

EDIT: Apparently, that takedown wasn't Konami's fault, but You Tube's. Konami even allowed him to bring back the video.
I've gathered it's the other way around. Konami deliberately filed the DMCA; YouTube threw it out because they didn't fill out enough information.

Now that I checked his tweets again, I realized that may have been the case.

He raises an interesting point about the so called risc-averse publishers doing mostly all or nothing mega projects competing for the same markets.

It's the same problem with movie blockbusters having more and more inflated budgets. The mainstreaming and Sequelitis is only needed to mitigate risks that were created by the publishers short-sightedness in the first place.

I wish Konami cared enough to be insulted. As it stands now we're like Flint, MI buying the whole town Toyotas.

Full disclosure, though, I had no faith in MGSV or Silent Hills being more than circlejerks.

What we actually saw from Silent Hills, in both the Playable Teaser and in the trailer from TGS last year, it seemed pretty damned unique both in terms of the Silent Hill franchise and in terms of things Kojima and Del Toro have done before.

So I don't think I ever had the expectation of it being a "circle jerk".

Not that I think there's anything necessarily wrong with that. The Metal Gear series has been nothing but masturbatory of itself since Snake's Revenge on the NES. Gloriously so.

The franchise sort of lost me at MGS4. I felt it was becoming an Ouroboros. If others like it, good.

That said, I do love me some Peace Walker. It's nice how Koima resisted requests for a MG1 remake by, basically, repackaging the MSX titles as Big Boss adventures.

"Like" is not a word I would necessarily associate with my relationship with the Metal Gear series.

It's like a modern art project. It's something to be admired more than necessarily enjoyed.

[up] Hideo Kojima, the Zack Snyder of gaming.

[up]I dunno - has Kojima directed anything that's quite as bad as Man of Steel?

I actually don't know 'cause I've only played MGS 2.

If Man Of Steel is the worst movie you've ever seen (Or any Zack Snyder film for that matter), I envy your naive, unsullied movie experience.

(Not saying Man of Steel is good, but if that's the worse movie you can think of, you've not watched truly bad movies).

[up][up]I didn't say it was the worst I'd ever seen. The only Snyder movies I've seen are that and Watchmen. I'm not in a good place to make a crack about Sucker Punch.

Another good episode. Kind of a shame some big developers are risk averse, and I'm glad to have pitched in for Yooka-Laylee

For the record, I would say the same thing about the Silent Hill series.

I definitely don't enjoy playing good Silent Hill games. That is entirely the wrong word to use.

Disagree on SH4/5/6/X being art. It's a brand.

I said good, didn't I?

...And, I would definitely say 4 was artistic. They ended up slapping the number on a Gaiden Game, but the game itself had artistic merit and things.

The funny thing about the Jimquisition is that it's been hitting the same notes and enemies for fucking years, but it isn't tiring, because the same points never stop being relevant.

The big boys commit the same crimes over and over again. It would be embarassing if it wasn't hilarious.
