Should be UsefulNotes?: Stock Dinosaurs True Dinosaurs

I'm not sure what this page is. That certain North American dinosaurs are used way more often than other dinosaurs, even in time periods or continents where they don't belong, may be a trope.

But the page itself seems more like a large Useful Notes-esque encyclopedia of dinosaur information on commonly-used species. And the individual dinosaurs are treated like tropes, complete with Trope Namers.

It is about how dinosaurs are portrayed in fiction. I see what you mean, though, that it is encyclopedic. Dunno.

The main trope page is Stock Dinosaurs. These are essentially Useful Notes pages for info on these Stock Dinosaurs, the namespace just doesn't reflect that. (There are equivalent pages for non-stock dinosaurs under Prehistoric Life, for example.) A move to a new namespace under Useful Notes should fix this.

I support a namespace migration, especially if the trope itself already has a separate page.

If this page had actual examples where the dinosaurs were portrayed as described, then I'd support staying.

As it is, it's more or less just straight information that fits better under Useful Notes.

• Stock Dinosaurs True Dinosaurs
• Stock Dinosaurs Non Dinosaurs

I support migrating, but it will have to be done for both sets to maintain consistency.

Yeah, both pages should be moved to useful notes.

Agreed. I didn't know there was a second one.

So..... any other opinions on moving these two? Would moving them require a crowner? Two separate crowners?

Moving namespace is free. I just did that. I'm hollering for a thread lock.

Moving a namespace is not free for turning tropes to useful notes and we still haven't discussed a merge.

Ah. Sorry. I was under the impression there was already a consensus that these were already Useful Notes. And no one even proposed a merge. Why should they?

There is no need to discuss a merge. There's no need for a crowner. This is just a mislabeled useful notes page at this point.

Shimaspawn clearly disagrees about the need for discussion.

I don't see a reason for merging, though.

Most likely because we all realized that the consensus would be against it given that the articles in question are wonderful and BLEEDIN' HUGE.

But now it is voiced and in the process of being shot down for being about as useful as a vestigial tail.

I think both Stock Dinosaurs True Dinosaurs and Stock Dinosaurs Non Dinosaurs belong in Useful Notes (where they are right now) because they seem to fit the purposes of Useful Notes pages, that is they help debunk common media stereotypes, help readers understand some media better (i.e., anything that uses dinosaurs), and they educate readers about dinosaurs and non-dinosaurs.

I am not a fan of merging the two pages because they are both pretty large already and they have distinctively different goals as one talks about actual dinosaurs while the other discusses what people mistakenly call dinosaurs.

If those two arguments do not seem good enough, I would definitely be willing to elaborate though.

So, both of these pages are in Useful Notes now (don't know when they were moved) and the old main names redirect to the new pages.

Do all the wicks need to be migrated, too, or can this thread close?
