If you're on the internet and for it... Ok I can't think of a nice way to say this. You're an idiot. SOPA, as it is written, will kill the internet. PIPA would just turn it into a police state.
Now, as much as I oppose it I also have to say that I seriously doubt it would survive judicial review. In other words the moment it gets in front of the courts it's going to be vacated. It completely circumvents due process.
"Tyyr's a necessary evil. " SpiritThere is some good news, the House Of Representatives has stopped pushing SOPA, so it's pretty much dead in the water. PIPA is still around though, but with Obama and the White House opposing it(not to mention Google and several other big internet companies) I don't see it going anywhere.
Don't mind me, just spreading the word.
ALL CREATURE WILL DIE AND ALL THE THINGS WILL BE BROKEN. THAT'S THE LAW OF SAMURAI.Good god! Everywhere I go, I see anti SOPA/PIPA. I know that those bills are greatly (and rightfully) hated, but wow. There has been more noise about stopping SOPA in the last 24 hours than in the last couple of months (well, at least for me anyway).
Don't make me fire Pinky's party cannon. It was decided a while back that this would be the day for everyone to organize and protest the bills since there was going to be a vote on one of them today. The vote got delayed but they went ahead with the protests anyway.
Considering that the STOP SOPA banner that adorned TV Tropes is gone, I think the threat posed by Sopa is gone... for now...

Never underestimate the importance of an open mind and compassionate heart. Not necessarily. That was for one day. But yes, SOPA and PIPA are shelved for now.
You got some dirt on you. Here's some more!I just felt myself in a "Groundhog Day" Loop. Not a nice feeling.
ERROR: Signature not loadedI hate to bring even more bad news, but ACTA? isn't the only bill that's going up. There is another bill that's going up. "PCIP". Basically SOPA 2.0.
This will force ISP's to store everyones internet history/etc for up to 18 months. Which the gov't can blackmail you. Oppose another bill again? 'Criminal!' or placed on that list of avoid bringing children around (Trying to avoid saying it directly)
Disgusting part of this bill is that its more likely to pass considering its title 'Protect the Children from Internet Pretators'
None of these bills will ever pass. For one thing, congress is looking into taking a course of action that will not stifle internet innovation.
I kind of wish we could just unionize the people and focus on other causes like saving the mary river turtle. Who is just too dang cool.
Again, why are we discussing this topic on two separate threads?
Fiat iustitia, et pereat mundus. There are quite a few (fellow) bronies on this forum. Did EQD have a link to TV Tropes?
I don't see it.Okay, I'm putting this poor thread out of its misery.
What are your thoughts on SOPA and PIPA?
I, personally, am against it. Yes, copyright infringement isn't good, but if SOPA/PIPA were passed it would harm websites that don't deserve it at all. I know that some websites are protesting it, which I feel is a good thing. People should have the right to a non-censored internet.
Gay elephant noise?
