I like the rounded corners too. Makes it look slightly less fugly.
Overall, the 5th gen Glocks look very nice, and the company's done a decent job again. I'm more into revolvers than semiautomatics, but Glock's still the most popular 9mm in the world for a reason. Or more.
As for the M17 MHS, I think that urban warfare has gotten to the point where carbines and submachine guns aren't maneuverable enough now. Seems like handguns are getting more important within modern warfare now, rather than just a sidearm in the rare event your ammo runs dry. Good choice, army.
Officers aside, I think team leaders throughout military history have been the ones to carry a sidearm, while the rest of the platoon carries extra rifle/MG ammo or grenades.

What, people take Glocks into space?
Speaking of them:
InRangeTV's DIY Roland Special.
I'm still impressed by how quickly compensated 9mms went from "movie joke" to "the new hi speed low drag thing".
I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotIf we don't see an uptick in WW 1 style charges now that every team leader has a handgun I'm going to be very disappointed in the Army.
Oh really when?Glock: providing civilians, law enforcement, militaries and the United Nations Space Command with quality sidearms since 1982
WW 1 style charges?

If they're pushing out the pistol with an eye to urban combat I wonder if they're also looking at super-compact rifles? Something like the MCX Rattler or some of those custom build AR pistols.
They should have sent a poet. One of the issues is soldier load. A handgun and mags for it isn't as heavy as a SMG or one of those "pistol carbines".
That hasn't stopped Armies like the ROK army, their standard rifle the K1 is a lot like you described.
All night at the computer, cuz people ain't that great. I keep to myself so I won't be on The First 48I was thinking more along the lines of issuing subcompact carbines as a main weapon for certain team members.
Something like the point and shoot P90 prototype could be potentially interesting as well. I'm just thinking that if they're moving towards using the pistol as a weapon in close urban environments it would be worth looking at something with a longerish barrel and firing a more powerful cartridge.
They should have sent a poet.So far attempts to do so haven't exactly seen widespread military service. Seems like the handgun is the most compact option.
Considering all the gear the modern soldier carries today, it's probably for the best.
Went on a M4 range today. So. In my 5th attempt I finally qual'd, with 34 out of 40.
I guess all those time going to ranges ended up rewarding. If nothing else, now I'm very comfortable with iron sights.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Congrats on the qualification! Over the years, qualifying on the range has gone from something weirdly stressful (only the Air Force could take something as fun as getting paid to go range shooting into an arduous and painful process) to something weirdly therapeutic.
After ten years of doing this, it's pretty much the best zen time I get outside of long runs.
Heh, thanks.
Funny you said "zen". See, for the first time on a range, I actually felt quite...detached while shooting. I just lined up, exhaled, squeezed, rince and repeat.
No wonder why even the army manual explicitly advocates Cold Sniper mentality. XD

Who watches the watchmen?Oh, will do. I will probably go to all the ranges that are available. I hope to eventually unlock "The Expert" achievement...which, come to think of it, only needed two more hits. XP

This Space Intentionally Left Blank.Question about concealed carry: Glock 19 vs Glock 26?
(Also known as the world's favorite Glock vs John Wick's backup gun)

It all depends on what style of concealed carry you're going with.
Both guns are the same thickness, so whether you're using an inside-the-waistband holster, or an outside-the-waistband belt-slide holster, it's pretty much the same thing — except that the G19 holds more bullets. Same goes for shoulder holsters.
I think the only place the G26 might offer any real advantage is with ankle-holster carry.
This Space Intentionally Left Blank. What about sideboob carry?

Sideboob carry would be pretty impractical and hurt quite a bit.
There are other regions that are a holster that can accommodate much more comfortably, anyway.
Sideboob carry is so mind-dumbingly stupid it's not even worth thinking about outside of Adam Sandler-level of comedies.
Then again, if anybody actually tried that in real life I wouldn't be surprised either because hot damn, people can be incomprehensibly stupid with guns.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Don't know if the confusion here is genuine, but by "sideboob carry" I meant "shoulder holster".
Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.Just call it a shoulder holster. What did you even expect people would think of when you said the word "sideboob carry"?
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel.Exactly that. I kept wondering whatever the Hell you'd been imagining that would be so painful. Surely it's obvious: you're carrying your gun flat against the side of your chest. And if your chest is voluptuous, that makes it a sideboob carry. It's not rocket surgery.

M17 MHS to Arm Soldiers Down to Team Leader Level
The US Army has announced a decision to field the M17 MHS as a sidearm to more soldiers than were previously issued M9 handguns. Where previously only senior leadership were authorized to carry handguns, with the new M17 and M18 Modular Handgun System squad and team leaders will be authorized. The move is intended to give those leaders greater flexibility in close quarters battle.

Army Explains New Dual-Arming Policy for Modular Handgun System
The MHS is designed to provide soldiers with more of an offensive weapon than the Cold-War era M9 pistol it is replacing, according to Daryl Eastlick, the deputy of the Lethality Branch at the Maneuver Center of Excellence at Fort Benning, Georgia.
... Arming combat units down to the team-leader level will help bring the MHS into the squad, Eastlick said.
"When I need to go into a confined space, negotiate some battlefield task where one of my hands is busy, I need something I can engage the enemy with with one hand," Eastlick said.
