AFP: Lol. The Beretta is actually a pretty safe fire arm. Part of the reason is the safety rolls the firing pin out of the way and can also decock the gun safely in the process. While I may find them too bulky they are pretty safe pistols in general.
Who watches the watchmen?US Armies hare brained 7.62mm scheme is already dead.

Who watches the watchmen?Quick, anyone who's surprised, raise your hand.
Yeah, me neither.
Actually, the expression is "hare-brained" (with apologies to Bugs Bunny.)
This Space Intentionally Left Blank.fixed.
Yeah I am not surprised it is dead. Not exactly a promising program given this particular road has already been traveled in the past.

"You can reply to this Message!">Pun in the headline
...Well that journo can go right to hell.
"Yup. That tasted purple."If I'm not mistaken the blueprints on the monument are also that of the STG-44.
I didn't know Wehraboos could sculpt for shit.
I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotI mean, he's a journalist, so if he doesn't put at least one damnation-warranting pun in a headline at least once a month, they take away his copy of the AP Style Guide.
So I was looking at the latest Real Life entry on Reliably Unreliable Guns and would like to ask how everyone feels about the recent controversy over the SIG P320 and its dropping problem.

That it should have been more thoroughly tested.
Beyond the drop safe issue that doesn't make the weapon unreliable. Frankly that entry should be scrubbed as a lazy shoehorn.
Who watches the watchmen?
In that case, the information on Reliably Unreliable Guns is not going on the P320's entry for Handguns. The edit war over the M9 was bad enough, the least we can do is not repeat it.
Also, it appears that when the news came out, die-hard Glock fanboys launched an offensive and yelled about how the Army should have picked Glock instead. Thankfully it seems to have died down.

Basically the first point on the trope blurb disqualifies the entry as it only fires when dropped in certain conditions.
Frankly the real life section should largely be gutted. It is full of either inaccurate, shoe horned, non-examples, or even examples that over came their flaws after the fact. I would suggest taking it to Ask the Tropers and seeing what others think.
Who watches the watchmen?I heard the military version of the 320 doesn't have the drop problem, only the civilian version it's based on.
Oh really when?I wonder how far we could get by submitting everything there to InRangeTV and see what happens.
And yeah, the P320 submission sounds like someone took the TFB bender seriously. I've actually considered applying for the writer opening since they seem to have stopped caring about actually testing things for themselves now...
I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotInteresting. Personally, I still have hopes for the SIG P320.
Also, I'm gonna follow the advice and take it to Ask the Tropers; I'm a little worried that it's going to descend into gun-bashing, which is something we really don't need.
Oh, and what's a TFB bender?

Shortly after the story first broke The Firearm Blog put up a number of articles and opinion pieces within a few days, almost all featuring the same writer wondering whether the P320 and by extension the MHS was drop safe, with nothing done to prove or disprove it outside some unscientific testing.
I have disagreed with her a lot, but comparing her to republicans and propagandists of dictatorships is really low. - An idiotThanks!
Spoke to Ask The Tropers; they recommended going to a special forum thread for troublesome RL sections. I can't seem to find it, though.
It is in the Long term projects section.
Courtesy Link for RL clean up. Before it gets added to any crowner they want you to discuss it in the thread first. So head to that section, tell them why you think the section is problematic, and then go from there. If needed you can have a couple people help you out defining where the problems are with the RL section.

Who watches the watchmen? One of Murphy's Laws of Combat: Always remember that your weapon was made by the lowest bidder.
This Space Intentionally Left Blank.Question, is there a difference between a long-stroke gas piston and an operating rod?
Technically speaking yes. Pwiegle will likely correct me if I am wrong on this. The piston is the part that pushes the operating rod by catching gas forces at one end of the piston.
Who watches the watchmen?Well, if we're looking at a Kalashnikov action alongside a Garand, the two are very similar in function. I think the main difference is, the AK's piston is directly affixed to the bolt carrier, while the M1's op rod is a separate piece.
But ultimately what it all boils down to is: who designed it, and what they chose to call certain components when they labelled them. If you compare the parts lists for double-action revolvers from Smith & Wesson, Colt, and Ruger, you'll find that the same component part can have three different names, depending on the manufacturer.
This Space Intentionally Left Blank.I'm not sure if everyone will agree, but I found this NYT article very interesting. Amazing art, too.
If it's not working for you, type the name of the article into Google Search and click on the first link you see.

My understanding is that most modern firearms won't go off without some interaction with the fun switch. I have it on good authority that you can drag a Beretta 92 from a Humvee for a few miles of bad road without it going off.
