Of course not. Sometimes though.

Exactly. This trope is not framed solely by what was meant to be conveyed. Whether or not the cleavage or ass succeeds in titillation is Male Gaze, not this trope.

But there are no articles of clothing that automatically emphasize a body part. "Usually", sure, but not always.

I didn't say automatically. I said specifically. A low-cut shirt is going to draw attention to that part of the body. High heels shoes draw attention there. Short skirts and Zettai Ryouki (or however you spell it) draws attention to the thigh. A thong will always specifically draw attention there, if nothing else is worn.

EDIT: I can't believe I spelled that right on the first try.

There is that word "always" again. Just saying making clothing type part of the definition is a really bad idea.

It's either that or rely on in-universe examples, which are extremely limiting.

And if "always" bothers you, then we can say "usually" or "almost always".

Well, i am reading this discussion and Baby Got Back was "butt, played for sex appeal",right? If this is the case, this is easy. Any thin woman with a huge butt in any cartoon qualifies- and "this woman have a huge butt" is so subjective when "this woman is fat" .

I think we briefly discussed making a a trope about a character who has much more interest in asses than in chests. Not sure how much it would work out.

I'm in favour of reinstating. It isn't the best trope, or the most widely used, but it does exist. I would even be in favour of allowing Real Life examples as long as people could back them up (no pun intended).

I vote reinstating. Butts as fanservice is just as valid a trope as breasts and legs and hips.

[up] So you're saying as we lack tropes that are simply those things as fanservice we don't need this one either?

Not really a vote.

Eddie removed it, so it's not really up to vote for it come back in it's previous form.

So lame to come to the page and seeing that the tropes being removed is about the ass but the one's with breasts and legs are still around. Talk about hypocritical, but it's just another change that most people don't want. -_-

If it must come back, I say limit it to examples acknowledged in-universe.

If this cuts its examples down so much that it no longer meets the bare minimum to be a trope, then it doesn't belong on the wiki.

If you guys think there's something wrong with pages with Shes Got Legs, Sexy Back, or Buxom Is Better then put up a trs thread for it. Right now this thread is for Baby Got Back

This was deleted? I had it on my watchlist and combing through the examples, I didn't think there was a lot of misuse, most examples were generic cuteness but specific instances where butts are displayed in a gratuitous matter.

I'm for reinstating and watching it like a hawk and deleting real life examples.

We're going about this wrong way. We once had an article about asses, so we're now all proposing new, unconnected tropes about asses. Ass Lover, a subtrope of Body Part Fixation. Ass Character, a subtrope of Ms. Fanservice. Ass Shot, a subtrope of Male Gaze.

If any of these are legitimate tropes, they're separate ones, and yet we don't have to make them just for the sake of "having a page for the butt." We actually have a whole index for butts. And one for breast tropes - but we don't have a page for "all sorts of emphasis on breasts."

I've actually been thinking about that, and I think it's a great idea to have more specialized tropes about rears. And we have an index? I never noticed it before.

More specialized tropes are easier to keep clean. Easier to set clear standards for. Easier to tell people why they can't just gush about whatever they want.

I understand that. That's why I agree.

And seriously, I never knew we had a butt index. We should have made more specific ass fanservice tropes a long time ago.

Now I will say that Princess Tutu Abridged is an example of a rear-focus trope, as characters keep commenting on Duck's "perfect ass".

I suppose we could make a butt analog to Buxom Is Better, but I'm not sure exactly how it would work or what it would be called. Nice Butts Are Better? Or something like that. I just don't see that very often. On the other hand, Buxom Is Better is a rather healthy trope, and since we've fixed the definition and been watching it, pretty much all the examples are objective and in-universe. Can anyone give me some in-universe examples of Nice Butts Are Better?

^ Buxom Is Better is a huge misuse magnet and only survives due to dedicated curators. Snowcloning off that title is a bad idea.

EDIT: I can't believe I spelled that right on the first try.

You didn't, you hit a misspelling redirect (which aren't supposed to exist, but given that no one can spell that one, I think it gets a pass).

Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.
