Wasn't Excuse Plot declared YMMV as well?
I thought we were going to, since no one could agree on objective examples.
And "plot isn't important", is a common factor, thus it is not misuse to claim they are related.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid. This trope is ...The Multiplayer gameplay outshines the story to the point that people buy the game just for that and forget that single player or plot exists.
Like say Battlefield1942.
Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Does the story even have to come into play then? It's been acknowledged that the singe player is overlooked because it's so lackluster compared to the multiplayer.
The story is just incidental.
In short, this is two tropes.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid. No, Excuse Plot is an objective trope.
No, this is one plot that can happen multiple ways. The end result is always the same. Splitting it down is just going to make there be a war between the bile spewers and the gushers.

Reality is that, which when you stop believing in it, doesn't go away. -Philip K. DickSomebody mentioned Just Here for Godzilla ... Just Here For Multiplayer?
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.I mean (1) just playing games for multiplayer that also have single player, regardless of whether there is a story, and (2) ignoring the story, regardless of whether there is multiplayer or single player.
That doesn't mean gushing or bashing. It's ignoring different parts of a game.
I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.Ok let's look at a common example Super Smash Bros... Why do you buy this game? Well of course it's for the multiplayer insanity party game... The only time some people will play singleplayer story mode is for unlocking characters. (Even though it's quite robust.)
Or World Of Warcraft "Who cares about lore! I want epic Raid bosses! Or pwn peeps in arena." (PVP and lore are barely related.)
That's the trope, for sure it's YMMV but is very much a trope unrelated to Excuse Plot though.

Sparkling and glittering! Jan-Ken-Pon!Even though consensus seems clear, I made a rename crowner here.
Play the Game, Skip the Story?
Rhymes with "Protracted."There's no reason we have to specify probable audience reactions, if we delineate the possible ones.
This trope, at least when I originally proposed it (and I admit, the name is too negative; there are games that I also enjoy the story of), was for when people generally ignore the plot and don't care how detailed it is. It's not specifically for multiplayer games where people ignore single player mode. It's for games where people tend to ignore all the effort that went into the plot, period.
Only Here For The Gameplay sounds good to me. But not a name that suggests it's specifically about the multiplayer.

I'm up for joining Discord servers! PM me if you know any good ones!Calling it.
Quod gratis asseritur, gratis negatur.I've created the alt-titles crowner here with a few suggestions from the thread.

Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.I notice a lot of these names have to do with multiplayer. The thing is, there are single-player games with detailed stories that much of the fanbase doesn't care about, so I think something like "Play The Game Skip The Plot" works best.
If "multiplayer" is in the title of the trope somehow, then that will mean that the inevitable single-player examples won't gel with the title.

Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.Moved, custom titled, and fixed the wicks. There was misuse, but less than I expected. Anyway, before we lock this up, anyone want to trim the description a little bit? It's not bad right now, but it could be better.
Doesn't look like there's anything else here. Nice work.

Crown Description:
Vote up for yes, down for no.
No, in one there is no plot real plot. This is an objective trope.
In the other there is a real fleshed out but there's an audience reaction that it's ignored. This is a subjective trope.
