Needs a less horrifying picture: Alcohol Induced Idiocy

The current picture is a fairly graphic one of a guy pulling out one of his own teeth with a set of pliers, with visible blood. This is a fairly common High Octane Nightmare Fuel terror, and maybe something less horrifying would be better. It also doesn't illustrate the "drunk" part of the trope at all.

Agreeing that we need to find something else, as the pic relies on the bug to get the "drunk" across.

Motion to pull

It is from a movie (The Hangover). Probably there is something better though.

One episode of American Dad had Roger, of all people, showing Steve's school how bad drinking is by showing slideshows of Steve making out with a a gigantic and hideously ugly girl. I'll look into that one and see if I can get a screenshot.

At first it didn't bother me, but the more I look at it, the more horrifying it becomes. Pull it.

I think that image is weak, because it really doesn't depict "drunk", but weakness is not grounds for an immediate pull. Neither is squickiness I don't think.

Replace? Totally, let's see whatcha got. Pull? Oppose. Keep until...

Does it even need its second panel? The woman's expression should pull enough weight in conveying the senselessness of the act, and the bug doesn't deserve to give credibility to the implication of inebriation if it wouldn't already come across anyway.

So, compromise? Cut the squick while sparing it from blanking if no better replacement is found?

Do you honestly think that would improve the image? It's hard to tell those are pliers as it is. Removing the "follow through" makes that even less clear. And it still wouldn't say anything about being drunk.

I think the only options are: leave, pull, or replace.

This trope is just asking for an image of homer simpson, it's not like there aren't a million to choose from.

[up][up] Improve? Probably not, but keep-until (that you preferred to pulling, no?) becomes a more viable option if the image wouldn't be notably worse for cutting the offending panel. The question is whether it would or wouldn't. The facial expressions already do more of the work than the actual result, and if the failure to visually portray drunkenness is deemed a fatal flaw, then the image should be pulled regardless, bug or no bug. Keep-as-is is pretty much out of the question.

I think it is worse (bad to very bad), for reasons stated above.

"Keep-as-is is pretty much out of the question."

False.

Nothing in the image besides the little bug indicates the "drunk" part. Unless you have that, the picture doesn't work.

Rodney, squick is grounds for pulling, if it starts edging into Gorn territory and whatnot.

Agree that it shows stupid but lacks drunkeness aspect.

Usually I would have said "Keep Until Better Image Suggested" but this one just unnerves me so much, although I am not sure if anyone shares my sentiment.

I find it squicky, but it's not a strong ground for pulling. That said, the fact that he looks fairly sober is.

"...squick is grounds for pulling..."

I didn't mean to imply it's not; but I think we should see what other people think, not declare something is true without question.

Reviewing the thread, leaning more towards "remove without replacement". Nobody has suggested any replacements.

Keep is fine too though.

Really, you could plaster the whole page with "Best moments of Haddock in The Crab with the Golden Claws" This trope is his entire character arc through the book.

...and occurs a few times in other books.
