Rename (Alt Titles crowner 3-6-12): Red Eye

Because there's no point in keeping things open for all the infinite possibilities of things that can come to be realized in the future when we can just emphasize what we already know to be working for the page.

A significant portion of the wicks are for Anime & Manga, and it doesn't appear on any other type of work page. There's no point in expanding a page in areas where it hasn't thrived at all—not without showing a modest number number of non-Japanese examples not presently on the page but can be identified as this and can belong here.

*shrug* I don't feel all that strongly about it, so I won't continue to argue it.

However, I think we should go with Eyelid Pull Taunt as the name regardless of whether we make it anime-specific or not. It's easier to remember, easier to spell, and more descriptive of the trope.

Waiting on a TRS slot? Finishing off one of these cleaning efforts will usually open one up.

I apologize for being late to this thread, but there is now a single proposition rename crowner for this trope here.

Given the lack of opposition to a rename in this thread, I would be willing to move to an alternative titles crowner pretty quickly, especially in light of how close the current name is to other tropes like Red Eyes and Red Eyes, Take Warning.

I still support Akanbe Taunt (Eyelid Pull Taunt is better as a redirect). May as well use the name it's normally called in Japan.

Well apparently the French usage has a different meaning, and in any case there are currently no French examples*

Akanbe is the pre-existing term. It's what the trope is called outside of this wiki. Eyelid Pull Taunt would be Translating The Loanword.

I and everbody else who aren't japanophiles have never heard the term. It's the same reason why we don't name military tropes after military jargon unknown to the vast majority of civilians.

I can see not wanting to use "Akanbe," but "eyelid pull taunt" is just so awkward. I'm considering voting against the rename just to stall that name from getting picked.

There's nothing wrong with introducing a bit of new vocabulary into the wiki, especially when it comes to things that have very specific pre-existing names already, so I'm good with Akanbe Taunt.

Anyone who's interested in finding out about the trope can still get to it easily from the Eyelid Pull Taunt redirect, so it doesn't seem there would be any problem.

If there's no common term in the public with the same meaning, and the military term doesn't have a use more common meaning to the public we should use the military term. It's just that most military terms run afoul of the anti-acronym policy.

Eye Pull Taunt sounds like something the zombie in Office Zombie does when you miss him.

I've never heard of "akabne" but I suppose it's a Japanese term? As I recall, the rule is that a trope with a Japanese name may only have examples from Japanese media, so then we'd have to make a separate page for the European/American examples.

Currently, I believe all but one or two of the examples are from Japanese or Japanese-influenced media. It's unambiguously a Japanese cultural trope.

It's also used in a number of other cultures, it's just that we don't mass import French fiction (for example) the way we do with Japanese fiction.
