Heart of Desire: Sign Up and Interest Check

Welcome to my latest RP endeavour! Please note that this is an OC RPG, so unless you base a character on one, preexisting fictional characters are not an option. With that out of the way, have a read!

The year is 2006, in a world identical to ours in almost every way. Every way, except for the inclusion of an ancient Incan legend. A legend that speaks of a temple, hidden away in the deepest darkest jungle, that hides the secret of a crystal of extraordinary power. It is written that any who touch the crystal are granted extraordinary powers, enough to fulfil their greatest goal in life above all else. And so it is that when the crystal reveals itself once again, adventurers, philanthropists and more dastardly fellows journey to claim its power, and shape the world to their liking. But who can say what it is they truly want? Will they control their purpose or vice versa? And what consequence can the needs of one have on the fate of mankind?

This RP is inspired by the Green Lantern stories, but instead of being controlled by an emotion, their powers are based around a motivation. More specifically, the motivation that has been at the back of their minds for as long as anyone can remember. These come into four different categories:

NOTE: The characters can not have these powers just yet. The first part of the game is the first lot of characters making the journey to get them. But bear the heart's desire of your character in mind.

LOVE This category is made up of people that want to help someone, or are dedicated to helping a loved one, or just want to do good and make the world a better place. They're mostly the heroic lot, superheroes and sailor moons and stuff, though there are some well intentioned extremists.

REVENGE They were mocked, abused, and made to feel inferior. Now they're veritable engines of destruction, hare trigger tempers all, and most often seen as evil. Think Red Lanterns meet evil soldiers. Some of them have a soft spot, mind.

NEW PURPOSE These people wanted to belong in the world, to break free from what people want from them, or to be badass or beautiful enough to be the centre of attention. This desire may or may not have been good for the world, but they're mostly approachable.

ENTERTAINMENT Individuals who wanted to do whatever the heck they felt like, and damn the consequences. This group is one of the most feared, perhaps even more than the vengeance ones. They are completely unpredictable, and you never know if you'll find a laidback jester or a sadistic and manipulative lunatic.

NOTE: Getting these powers is non compulsory. You can simply have a completely normal character who's an ally of the others.

Now then, a lot of people seem to want to know what they can do with the magic, so that they can sort out their own plans. So, for future reference, here is what the powers are capable of.

• Each individual has their own set of powers linked to their greatest want, but other people can teach them how to use other abilities. Someone whose powers are geared for construction work will not automatically know how to fly himself from here to Compton Dando.

• The powers of the crystal are linked to two things, energy and life itself. As such, they can propel themselves through the air via kinetic energy or blast people with heat beams. Through some strange happenstance, this control over energy can somehow enable transmitting thoughts like with telepathy, and also teleportation, though if the teleporter wants to go anywhere, they must concentrate on that destination.

• With the limited power of life, certain users can heal living things or cause them to grow. But only if they consciously want that to happen, like if they really really want to get a six pack or cure their friend's leukaemia. If they don't concentrate or are fine with being sickly, it won't get better.

• Now the more green lanterny things come into play. Each powered individual is subconciously capable of teleportation. If they want to create an object from thin air, and a kinetic energy punch won't suffice, then they must concentrate fully on the object in mind, and the magic shall appearify it, atom by atom, in a manner of milliseconds. If an object has been created in this manner, they can only last as long as concentration allows.

• With a combination of growing life powers and teleporting atoms, it's entirely possible to transform someone or something. It's even possible to alter their brain and by extension thoughts. But the alterer must of course concentrate on what they want to transform and into what. If the process is interrupted, the process should bounce back to normal, unless one is very unlucky. Transformation isn't for everyone to learn mind, especially not with the amount of focus it requires. Transforming into an exact individual needs even more concentration.

Extra rules:

• As said before, no fandom characters.
• Only one character per person, for the time being.
• No autohitting, no godmodding, no meta knowledge.

• Mortal Talents: (Not super powers. What talents or special skills your character has on their own, but keep it reasonable)
• Personality: (Tied with whatever backstory and mental imbalances they may have. How they act, what they like or hate, and what kind of person they are inside and out)
• Backstory: (What was their life like? How were they raised? This doesn't have to be massive, but we should logically see how they developed their hearts desire)
• Main Motivation: (The goal in life that the crystal will help accomplish. This is the thing they've wanted for most of their lives, and no matter what else they claimed to want, this was always at the back of their minds, shaping their behaviour)

Well, you know exactly who I'm doing, eh-heh~

• Name: Yuki Yukimura*
  ^{So they're Japanese, sue me.}
• Age: 17
• Gender: Female
• Appearance: The most obvious thing about poor Yuki's appearance is that she's frail. Extremely, slightly alarmingly frail. She looks like she could be killed by a stiff breeze, let alone a jungle expedition. Fortunately, she's tougher than she appears... not that that's saying much. Ghostly white hair and eyes pale enough that one can see the blood cells*
  ^{So, yes, red. Some of the time. Depends on lighting}
  really don't help the matter, though she has the sense to wear sunglasses.
  
  Apart from those minor issues and an equally deathly pallor, Yuki isn't that bad looking, if a little short, even for someone of Japanese descent. Though this is a bit of a moot point since she has extreme difficulty in remaining stood up for more than a few seconds, let alone walking.
• Mortal Talents: In and of herself? Very, very little, due to her own infirmities. She's knowledgeable, there's no doubting that, but her ability to practically apply any of this knowledge is extremely slim. What use, for instance, is knowing more Greek Myths than the person next to you? However, she does have rather a lot of resources to draw upon due to family connections, as well as*
  ^{Assuming the person in question hasn't dropped off the face of the Earth}
  at least one person that's willing to stay with them come hell or high water. For fairly logical reasons, she's bilingual.
• Personality: Friendly, despite everything. She remembers having friends and people used to come over to play, but that stopped a long, long time ago. Despite wealth and privilege, she's actually a nice person and her father has to do his best to keep her away from charity shops and the like when he takes her out in case she buys the entire contents. Yuki gets lonely easily, which has definitely been alleviated by Elizabeth's arrival... but she wants a friend, not a servant, and that doesn't seem to be getting through very well.
• Backstory: Yuki here was born in Japan. Not entirely surprising, really, but she didn't spend that long actually in the country since her father decided that conditions were more favourable elsewhere*
  ^{Wouldn't that coincide with the crashing of the Japanese economy? XD}
  and moved. Not generally something surprising, except that he took his company, and all it was associated with, along for the ride.
  
  As a young girl, Yuki was quite healthy, but that didn't really last beyond the age of five or so and her health began to deteriorate. Hell, it's still getting worse now, to the point that she just doesn't have a particularly long life expectancy. Normally, this really gets in the way of such things as 'exploring a jungle', but she's stubborn. And it's not like she's trying to do it alone.
• Main Motivation: LOVE*
  ^{Seems to be the most suitable for someone that just wants friends and to be with people, right?}

Y'know, there is a distinct lack of such things as 'appearance'. Lizard... XD

Here she is! And sorry for the double post

• Name: Elizabeth Knight
• Age: 17
• Gender: Female
• Appearance: Mid-back length blonde hair, green eyes and fair skin is Elizabeths colours. She is also rather tall standing at 5'5ft and her body is well developed. Her face is rather round but she is nowhere unattractive, rather it's the opposite.
• Personality: Elizabeth has two sides, the first one she shows when the young lady aren't around then she's rough and somewhat foul mouthed. When around Yuki tough she tries to be calm, civil and sophisticated and generally act as she thinks a maid should.
• Mortal Skills: Elizabeth is a skilled hand-to-hand fighter, particularly when it involves a knife or shiv though she is mostly capable with whatever she might have on hand such as a broom, due to her role as a maid. She also knows how to keep a house clean and how to tend to her mistress. She is however rather book dumb due to her past but she's not an idiot and can improvise. She also has street skills, such as pickpocketing and picking locks
• Backstory: Born and abandoned on the streets Elizabeth initially had no name and no future except as an ordinary street rat left to fend for herself. It was like that until she was 12 years old. One day she found herself on one of the finer parts of the city and decided that she could get her hands on a lot of good stuff the could sell. So she decided the try and pickpocket a certain japanese buissnessman, only to get caught. The buissnessman however decided that he pitied the girl and took her in. Making sure she got proper education and as soon as she learned how to read Elizabeth chose her name from a book since she thought it sounded nice, she did though ignore most lessons since she tought they were too boring.

Deciding that she should repay the Yukimura family she decided she should become a servant to them and put serself trough Training from Hell in order to learn how to best serve them, both as a maid and as a bodyguard. When she became 16 she was officially hired to be the daughter of the familys private maid/assistant.

• Main Motivation: LOVE

Welp, here goes nothing. >.>

• Name: Alex Whitnall
• Age: 18
• Gender: Male? Female? It's a little hard to tell... She's a girl. Her full given name is "Alexandra".
• Appearance: Stands at a somewhat average height, and has short black hair and green eyes. Alex wears a lot of black, most notably a long black coat whose insides are lined with various knives. Alex's clothes are baggy so it's difficult to get a grasp on his build, and as such she's always initially thought to be a handsome young man. Alex always speaks in a calm, quiet voice, which can come off as a little unsettling at first.
• Mortal Talents: Intelligent, cunning and very good at what he does. It just so happens that what she does is kill people for fun. He can't exactly help it, it's the only thing that really gives her pleasure in life. He's proficient in at least basic self defence, and is exceptionally skilled with a knife. Whilst she's only of around average strength, he is very fast and agile, and possesses remarkable reflexes and coordination.
• Personality: Alex is calm, cool and collected at all times, his only expression seeming to be a vague smirk. She doesn't seem to get angry or upset, reacting to every event he encounters with mild amusement at most. Her composed manner hides his true self, however: she's really just a deranged individual who derives pleasure only from the suffering of others, and regards murder as the most enjoyable of all pastimes. Alex can't quite help this, as all throughtout his life she's never found any real enjoyment in anything else he did. She tries to curb his murderous intentions and not arouse too much suspicion in public, though. After all, there'd be no more fun for her if he was locked up, right?
• Backstory: Alex's life was never really all that notable. Average middle class life in an average city in an average part of the world with an average family. She probably would've grown up to be a completely average person were it not for one fateful night, when he was accosted by a knife wielding thug on the way home. After a desperate struggle in a dark alley, she somehow managed to pry the knife from his hands and, in a fit of passion, stabbed him several times in the chest, killing the man. The attack had scared him, but what scared her even more was a sudden realization: she liked the outcome. He felt powerful, strong, and most of all, she felt truly happy for the first time in her life. It was just so exciting, the thrill of taking a life, the joy of killing. But she had to make sure it wasn't just a fluke, so the next night he stalked a young woman who she didn't even know and, when she was sure she was all alone, killed her. Oh, it felt even better than the first time! She had to keep doing this, he couldn't help himself. It was just so much fun that she had to do it again. And again and again. But... Soon his prey began thinning out. Fear of the seemingly random series of murders led to no-one wanting to go out at night in fear of being next, which frustrated Alex. All she wanted was to do the things that made her happy, just like any human. What gave them the right to deny him this? It was about this time that by some trick of fate she stumbled upon the legend of the crystal, and realised that with its power, no-one would be able to hide from him. He'd be able to have so much fun and they wouldn't be able to stop her.
• Main Motivation: ENTERTAINMENT.

Um...was the "Abilities" section related to the powers one would gain or abilities before becoming a magical girl/boy...because if it is gained powers than I'm seeing the sign-ups are focusing on mundane abilities.

Yeah...the sign up does need fixing up.

* Name: Jamie Kingsley/Bibiana Atacar/Feliciana Lopez
* Age: 21
* Gender: Female
* Appearance: Jamie is a Hispanic, meaning she has a tan skin and long black hair. She has green eyes, is tall and well built.
* Personality: Jamie is distant, due to her upbringing. Past that, Jamie is fun loving and childish, or at least will be, when she drops her Stoic façade.
* Abilities: Knowledge of firearms, martial arts, survival techniques, tactics and explosives.
* Backstory: Feliciana was born to a family in Madrid, in 1985. When she was two years old, her family was killed in an attack by the ETA. She was taken in by her Uncle, Carlos Lopez, who, unknown to authorities, had been driven mad with grief by the loss of his only remaining family and had dedicated his life to avenging them. Renaming Feliciana to Bibiana Atacar (Bibiana means "Alive", Atacar means "To Attack".), her Uncle, a former soldier in the Spanish Armed Forces, trained Bibiana in firearms, survival techniques, tactics and explosives, while taking her to martial arts classes. Bibiana never went to school, her Uncle stating he was "homeschooling" her. The authorities of course became suspicious, and rescued Bibiana when she was 14, while her Uncle was jailed for life. She was eventually re-homed at the age of 16, to an elderly couple in England who wanted a companion for their 14 year old, renaming her Jamie Kingsley, as her real name was unknown. This lasted for about two years, until her Uncle broke out and slaughtered the family in front of her. He told her about the rumor, and ordered her to find the crystal and avenge her family. He then committed suicide, leaving Jamie his house. Jamie returned to the home, finding it devoid of weaponry, as the police, unknown to Carlos, had found his weapons cache.  Selling the house, Jamie used the money to fund a one person expedition to find the crystal.
* Main Motivation: Surprisingly, not revenge. As Jamie was devoid of a childhood until she was 16, her motivation is actually ENTERTAINMENT, although she still believes it to be revenge at this time.

Let's give this a go then...

Name: Simon Anderson

Age: 18

Gender: Male

Appearance: Simon is rather unassuming in looks, usually wearing monotonously coloured clothes, with short, dark hair and brown eyes, with black-rimmed glasses.

Mortal Talents: Simon is fairly good with computers. And video games, for all the good that will do. There's also his super-incredible-amazing ability to annoy girls with his frequent flirtations.

Personality: Simon is somewhat nice by default, although he can, on a whim, be less than likeable. He acts this way just to provoke a reaction from others for the sake of entertainment, so he seems to have multiple personalities sometimes. The only constant trait he seems to have is his flirtatious nature towards women.

Backstory: Simon had a strict upbringing in life, always being told what to like, who to associate with, which activities he should invest time in... of course, he didn't really care for all that. He took up different hobbies and interests just for the sake of not doing what he was told and found he quite liked the variety of things to do in life.
One disadvantage though, is that he still feels restricted in what he is 'allowed' to do. Sometimes, he wants to commit acts that would constitute as dangerous to others for the sake of a laugh, and wishes he had the power to both ignore the consequences of life, and fix any mess he could create with his antics.

Main Motivation: ENTERTAINMENT

Is it possible to have a character with mixed motivations? Keep in mind that I'm only talking two, not All Your Powers Combined. And this would be a villain, sooo...

• Name: Terry Rickert
• Age: 22
• Gender: Male
• Appearance: He has a slim build, and is about six feet tall. Terry has short blond hair and brown eyes that look reddish in the light. He wears a red jacket, a yellow shirt, and blue jeans.
• Abilities: He's good at driving a motorcycle, more importantly, he's good at motorcycle racing. He is also strong, which can be attributed to his daily training at the gym. Then there's his knowledge of the justice system.
• Personality: If you have ever seen him before the age of thirteen, he would be a kind and sweet kid. After? Well... He'd contain shades of that. However he's prone to getting angry, especially when discussing about injustice or the car accident his sister got into. Has a strong sense of justice, yet doesn't wish to stoop down to a level where he would wish to kill all men he perceives as evil. And he's known to hold a grudge.
• Backstory: Terry was born into a family with two loving parents and a younger sister. At the age of 13, his sister was picked on by bullies. No one stood up for her despite the signs of her being bullied becoming more and more obvious. One day, while escorting his sister home, they came across the bullies again. Despite his best efforts to try and avoid a conflict with them, they began to attack his sister. She ran off trying to not get more injured, but ran into an oncoming car. The resulting impact killed her, and the driver was put on trial for her death. Despite evidence putting the bullies in clear blame for her death, both the jury had declared the driver guilty of the death and was given a life sentence. After the trial, Terry encountered the bullies again, who rub the fact they got away in his face. His grudge towards the bullies and grief towards his deceased sister resulted in clouding his mind with nothing but anger and a desire for justice. He decided to work towards being a cop and when he was old enough to drive, participated in motorcycle races to take out his frustration on. Eventually, when he became 22 and was picking out his college courses, his father came to him and asked him to go on a hike with him and Terry's mother to try and get over his sister's death. He complied, but said he will make no promises. There is one thing he mentally promised her... He promised her...
• Main Motivation: REVENGE!
