but HOW?Well, in Episode I the climax works because the heroes know they are outgunned in every respect, so they divide their attack strategy to confuse the enemy. It's not so much the need to take out the Command Ship that's the problem, but that Anakin Falling into the Cockpit, being taken to the battle on autopilot, accidentally crashing inside and destroying a vital power core was seen as a bunch of coincidences that made him a hero by accident rather than intention.
I take it this isn't news to anyone - Rogue One May Differ From Other Star Wars Films.
Well, a story about a smuggler infiltrating an Imperial base for the Death Star plans. Yeah, sounds pretty different.
“The [opening] crawl and some of those elements live so specifically within the ‘saga’ films that we are having a lot of discussion about what will define the [stand-alone] ‘Star Wars’ stories separate and apart from the saga films,” said Kathleen Kennedy. “So we’re right in the middle of talking about that.”
Well.
- I wouldn't mind seeing some change to reflect the new generation of films. Let's change the Indiana Jones theme while we're at it!
- Ugh, they're changing the opening crawl, damn SJW's! First they riot about Poe and Finn and now they're attacking Star Wars traditions!
Just call it 'STAR WARS - ROGUE ONE?'
I mean, camerawork I can get behind.
But what, are we not' 'getting an iris-in at the end? There's a chance'' we might not see an opening crawl?

I'M MR. MEESEEKS, LOOK AT ME!....Please tell me you're joking about the 'SJW' comment.
They were very clearly joking with that.

I feel like the CBR article is extrapolating a lot of conclusions from some very vague statements. Kathleen Kennedy simply seems to be saying that they might be toying around with the intro to help differentiate the anthology films.
I think there will be some stylistic differences in the intro, but I think there will be some form of opening crawl simply because it's too useful of a tool to set the stage.

The Clone Wars made their opening evoke a similar style with a Title Card alongside bombastic music, then a "Jedi Fortune Cookie" statement followed by a war documentary narrator alongside introductory scenes (sometimes a Previously on…, other times original footage). The backlash was pretty big, but it became well ingrained in the overall tone of the show.
I think they should go almost the complete opposite route. Slow, soulful music with the title card fading in and out. Possible have Star Wars and Rogue One their own separate title cards, rather than the current "A Star Wars Story" subtitle. No opening crawl, that should be reserved for the Episodes. Let the narrative set the stage and not try to get the audience up to date.
Or they could take a note from the Nolan Batman films and display the title card in a Cut To Black only at the very end after shoving something into the audience's face.
Off the top of my head, I'm personally hoping that they keep the opening crawl and iris-in ending shot, because that's just such a strong part of the franchise to me that I can hardly picture a Star Wars film without it. If they want to differentiate themselves from the saga films - which they absolutely should - they should do it through the story itself, not the associated gimmicks.
Of course, I don't want to be the one to call They Changed It, Now It Sucks! over what would be, I fully realize, a probably inconsequential change. I'd be okay with them trying to do something different with the opening and whatnot, so long as they still manage to do something cool and memorable. I'd also be fine with them tweaking some details but keeping it the same in a broad-strokes sense - such as keeping the crawl, but with, say, different text color and an altered score.
"We'll take the next chance, and the next, until we win, or the chances are spent."
Bless those two.
I do wonder, if John Boyega goes to Celebration, how many TR-8R stormtroopers there will be there.
Do we know who runs the Emo Kylo Twitter by any chance?
I assumed it was Adam Driver himself.
Interview with Cameron during which he talks a bit about his honest thoughts on TFA:

Relevant part at 2:15.
Long story short, thinks it's not visually inventive enough compared to all the prior films, but interested in the baby steps it's taken with the new characters and wants to see where they'll head next.
I don't understand why anyone would care about Cameron's opinion on TFA, but okay.

...He's a talented, award winning director? That's a good foundation to listen to what he says.
I don't have problems with anyone's opinions on TFA. Not sure why your comment is aimed at me. I'm more inclined to not care about James Cameron's opinion, that's all.
(And yes, Avatar was a bad movie, considering it was based on the racist as fuck Mighty Whitey trope).
Cameron can have an opinion but I'm not sure why it matters more than anyone else's.
Avatar could never have been the next Star Wars anyway, and that's my opinion.
You do have a tendency to get defensive, dismissive, or ascribe agendas that may or may not be there to people's posts when they have not-so-nice things about TFA. Again, I usually try to avoid commenting on these things if possible, but you can be fairly aggressive in Complaining About People Not Liking the Show or vice versa.
I mean if you think their complaints really are baseless and want to tell them so then fine, but there are ways to express it in a more civil and less snide and confrontational tone than you have been using. Sometimes people have different opinions on things than you and that's OK. People can respect that without jumping down someone else's throat and accusing them of being motivated by some sort of moral failing for it.
Also, Lord of Lore and I aren't even the only people to bring up your issues with lack of civility here, nor is this the second or even third time this has happened in this thread alone.

I do disagree with some of the narrative decisions in Avatar, but it was definitely visually stunning. TFA, I admit, didn't really do anything new with what had been done by the trilogies before it, but hopefully Abrams can do more with the next few.
Wait, I do admit the destruction of the Hosnian system was visually impressive. But that was basically the only thing.
