I made the crowner and I added that option because some people mentioned just taking out the complaining magnet examples. I apologize if that was unclear from the crowner itself. While I agree that there really are no good examples, I thought it was better to try to be neutral when putting together the crowner.
Thanks for bringing that to my attention though.

Considering there's way more downvotes in the crowner than counterarguments in the thread, I think this is a case of drive-by voting by people who haven't actually read the thread. So maybe we should just get more votes from people who have.
It's pretty obvious that a trope about needing a guidebook to pass some part of a game cannot apply to a medium that's not a game. What's next, Guide Dang It! / Films where people assert that you need a guidebook to play the video?

I'd rather just move the examples to a new trope page, but I'm probably in the minority here.
It could be useful for those who are thinking of getting a guide for a certain game, but don't know how much it doesn't cover, or what information is incorrect.

Well, what we don't need is a page of "complaining about guidebooks you don't like".
What would be interesting is a page about books that don't contain what they're advertised to contain. That would include strategy guides that lack pertinent strategies, but it's broader than that: it would also include e.g. a "get rich quick" guide that doesn't actually tell you how to get rich. This can be an objective trope.

I looked a little bit more at the sandbox of stuff that was deleted and I am not convinced that this is something we want to have as a trope. It just looks like complaining.
Like, that could be a trope, but I doubt there'd be anything to salvage from here for it.

...There's no GOOD examples. None of them match the definition of Guide Dang It!. So both options are the same thing. Only one of them keeps a blank page.
