Western RPGs with good Turn Based Strategy combat?

I've just started playing Temple of Elemental Evil (Troika game) and I've been really loving the combat but it's made me wonder that as much as I love turn based strategy the wrpgs I've played (such as Fallout 1, 2 and Arcanum) aren't really great examples of it, the only turn based games I can think of that I enjoyed for the tactical combat are FF Tactics and SMT Devil Survivor.

So, does anyone have any examples of great WRP Gs with turn based strategy combat (WRPG is kind of a necessity since there aren't many JRP Gs on PC) that I can add to my list of games I need to play?

Does Jagged Alliance, Silent Storm, or X Com counts?

Gladius is pretty much Final Fantasy Tactics but more realistic and Gladiator-themed. Also uses a Paper Mario type battle system where you can time hits. If you can somehow find a copy of it, I highly recommend it.

I believe the games on the Infinity Engine (Baldurs Gate, Icewind Dale, Planescape Torment) had a pausable realtime combat system if that's something that works for you?

Thanks for the recommendations guys, I have JA 2 in my steam backlog but I forgot about X-Com (which ones are the good ones here? All of them?) and never heard of Gorky 17 and Silent Storm, I'll definitely check those out.

@Falco: I've played a few real time with pause games, I meant TB strategy specifically as I don't really like rtwp as much (I'm not very good at those).

Battle For Wesnoth is a good freeware TBS game.

Not sure if it really qualifies as an RPG, though.

The battle of the first trilogy of The Dark Eye adaptations (in English known as "Realms of Arkania") is turn-based and pretty tactical (and quite good).

The newer one (Drakensang) is more like Baldur's Gate with pausable real-time.

Mukora: Cool, and it's freeware too so I have no excuse not to grab it.

eternal NOOB: Fallout 1 and 2 are pretty awesome and Fallout 1 is one of my favourite RP Gs ever, I was thinking more party based tb combat though rather than those games where you just control the one guy (also Fallout 2 tended to be a bit too fillerish with the combat design at times)

Theatrical: Best turn based game ever :D

Nyarly: Realms of Arkania just came on Go G iirc so now I can grab that too. I'll see if I can grab Drakensang too if I can find it (doesn't appear to be on Steam).

You guys are awesome, I didn't expect to see many examples but now I have plenty of new games I need to check out. Thanks heaps everyone!

[up][up][up][up] Fallout Tactics is also a thing that exists. I didn't really think much of it, but if you get the ultimate Fallout Edition thingy that Amazon sells/used to sell, it comes on that with the first two games, so you can try it for no extra investment.

EDIT: Ah, ninja'd. Sounds like you've already played them.

I forget how tactical it is, but I do recall Septerra Core being a Turn Based WRPG.

The combat in Septerra Core isn't very good at all, and it's modeled after JRP Gs anyway.

Anachronox? It's a JRPG knockoff, like Septerra Core, but still.

I prefer turn-based strategy games with RPG elements, like the Heroes Of Might And Magic series.
