Two great tastes that taste great together?
Support Gravitaz on Kickstarter!Hmm... should I be thrilled or scared?
Parker and Stone are doing the script. And it's going to be an rpg.
There is pretty much no way this can be bad, provided that it gets the development time it needs and isn't pushed out half-finished (like so many Obsidian projects, alas).
Furthermore, I think Guantanamo must be destroyed.Hmmmm. Mite b cool.
"Is fearr Gaeilge briste ná Béarla cliste."Wha
What?
Okay. Cool. I guess I'm going to have to check out South Park now.
This post has been powered by avenging fury and a balanced diet.I don't like South Park, so my reaction is simply "what the hell?"
Sorry, I can't hear you from my FLYING METAL BOX!what neo said. :/
Very big Daydream Believer. "That's not knowledge, that's a crapshoot!" -Al Murray "Welcome to QI" -Stephen FryCrude shock humour mixed with witty and intelligent observation can work well as an RPG. Look at the Penny Arcade RPG.
South Park is one of these things, which I don't know what to think about it. But I definitely liked it more (as in, I actually really liked it) when I was younger and my standards were much lower. A game based on it is really not something I want (even if it weren't be tainted by a couple of bad ones already), so I would normally ignore that.
But... Obsidian? Now I really don't know what to think about it. Nor about the fact that Parker and Stone are actually writing the story (yeah, I don't view this as unanimously positive).
I'm not saying that it will be bad (I have no way of knowing this after all) or even that it's likely that it will suck. But I'm very skeptical.

People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.I don't know nothing about Obsidian, but I love South Park, and from what you people are saying it sounds like Obsidian's a competent bunch, so I guess this excites me.
Easy street has no parking signs. In any case, it's very unlikely that it will be bad as the old SP games (at least from what I heard, as I never played them).
People aren't as awful as the internet makes them out to be.South Park used to be very intelligently written. In recent years, I feel that its mostly Parker and Stone ranting about whatever issue is bothering them lately, but if they have Obsidian's writers to reign them in...
hmmm...don't know if want...
XP granted for befriending a giant magical spider! What
I have not even slightest idea if I should be thrilled or horrified. Obsidian doing South Park RPG is just such a bizarre combination that I honestly don't know what to think.
Has a compulsive editing and re-editing disorder.Well this is weird, I'm pretty sure this is Project New York so this is the one with Tim Cain helping out.
Eh, Chris Avellone has always wanted to do a high school RPG so maybe he'll get his wish this time.
-shrugs-
A bit of an odd combination...
I mean, I really do like South Park, and Fallout New Vegas is a damn good game although initially bugged up the arse...
However, I think it would have been better if it's based around the middle of the show's run, which is when the show peaked (and I do mean up until Chef died). Afterwards, humor tends to be pretty hit-and-miss, so I dunno what this new RPG would bring...
I now go by Graf von Tirol.Considering Old World Blues and Dungeon Siege 3 I think Obsidian's pretty good at the humour. Matt & Trey might be writing the base scaffold but Obsidian will probably be doing all the little quests and branches and things so I don't think the humour should be an issue.
I mean they certainly aren't above a penis joke so they're not above the usual crude humour of SP, plus AP showed that they're pretty good at making political commentary that is subtle so really it's actually a pretty decent fit.

What's cool is that you'll be playing a kid who just moved to South Park, so you'll get to create your own avatar, much like people got to hang with Gabe & Tycho in Penny Arcade Adventures.
Jonah FalconIt all depends on the execution but this could actually turn out pretty well.
Politics is the skilled use of blunt objects.New thought: One thing Chris Avellone often does is have characters who rant about things he dislikes in games/the setting, albeit with very well written characters who don't make it sound too preachy.
South Park often rants these days about things they don't like- YMMV on it but often they pull it off without getting too up their own asses about it.
Yeah, this is a better fit than I initially thought.
Is it just me or does Kenny look like a girl in the reflection?
"We're all paper, we're all scissors, we're all fightin' with our mirrors, scared we'll never find somebody to love."If this turns out to be remotely as good as New Vegas, count me in.
Incidentally, I've never watched a full episode of the show.

Some of gaming's best writers with one of the crudest (but intelligently written) IPs. I don't know what to think.
