Since you seem more interested in defusing the question instead of answering it, I'm not going to bother. I just thought it was an interesting thought.

Well whaddya know: the first to get nerfed is Sackboy.

Wait, so do different characters require different amounts of AP to raise their Super level then? I didn't realize that.

Sackboy didn't need that hard of a nerf. Truth be told, I've never had issues against Sackboy online. And yet they're leaving Kratos as is?

I was already kind of upset that LBP went Karting.

I never understood that, considering Sony already has Mod Nation Racers for its customisable, track-maker Kart Racer.

[up][up][up]Marketing power. Anyone can tell you ModNation wasn't going to be competing with Mario Kart (and really, who but Sackboy can?).

Sackboy didn't need that hard of a nerf. Truth be told, I've never had issues against Sackboy online. And yet they're leaving Kratos as is?
They've referred to Kratos as the "starting point" or the "Ryu" multiple times. I'm assuming they're basing their approach to the meta-game around him as the ideal, so if he's over-performing, things are going as planned. If certain powerful factors are allowed to take off, the balance can spiral out of the developer's control. Kind of like how Valve was unable to predict how much the Demoman would be out-doing the other classes.

You could argue nipping something like this in the bud makes the development of a competitive scene less organic though. In the face of all this, I still wonder why Sly hasn't been nerfed to hell yet.

Now this I find weird. Sales of the game are lagging badly, but the Sony representative says that they're actually "right on target" with their projections.

So they didn't have that much faith in it either? I can't figure why they'd be pleased with low sales.

[up]Considering it's a new IP, they probably do have low standards for how well it would sell.

[up][up]Hopefully, if they make a second game, they may learn from their past mistakes, and try to choose third-party characters that are relevant to Playstation history. Then it will sell like hotcakes.

And this is true. Sometimes people are more likely to buy a game if it has a particular character. Link was in Soul Calibur 2, which caused the Gamecube version to sell the most copies, something that was rare for multiconsole games.

I suppose there is some logic to their marketing approach this Holiday.

Wonderbook is clearly a casual game, and it's attached to a popular license. I'll bet it's going to be key in Sony's plan to push the Move. It really needs the full strength of Sony's marketing arm.

PSASBR on the other hand is appealing to its audience's sense of nostalgia, but since the Playstation doesn't have the same kind of legacy of Nintendo, they instead plan to rely on word-of-mouth and a comfortably devoted following. PSASBR having deeper gameplay than Wonderbook probably helps to reinforce that.

On the bright side, if Sony is pleased with the results, a sequel can't be too far off. So the opening iteration has done its job.

[up]Third-Party characters don't make this game, nor should they.

[up]Remember that the original SSB had very little advertising and was a low-budget side project. It still sold well, and now the sequels have heavier advertising. The same could happen with this game's sequels.

The Harry Potter game I'm assuming. Well, "Book of Spells" rather.

Maybe I'm mistaken though.

[up][up]It's launching with Book of Spells. It'll sell by proxy, but then so did Wii Sports.

[up][up][up]I can only hope that same history repeats here. Didn't the first Smash do well in Japan first then got localized in the west?

Third-Party characters don't make this game, nor should they.

Except, unlike Nintendo, the Playstation relied on a lot third-parties back in the PS 1 era, and a lot of these third-party games were crucial to building up the Playstation legacy; to make it what it is today. To deny this is just ignorance.

So in conclusion, the third-parties are important to this game. Heck, how many of the first-party IPs in this game are even from the PS 1 era? Like four, maybe? Sony themselves had most of their first-parties debut on the PS 2 and PS 3.

I simply don't want them to overwhelm the roster. Especially since so many of those early successes lacked any staying power in the Playstation's line-up or are rarely associated with the Playstation now (if they ever were).

The Playstation really started building its legacy this last generation. With all those third-party franchises becoming multi-platform, they had to. God of War III, Killzone 2 and Future: Tools of Destruction pretty much hit a new level of mainstream appeal for their franchises, and we even have contenders for a mascot-like position in Sackboy and Nathan Drake after this last generation.

Maybe at one point they couldn't have pulled this crossover off without relying on third-party support, but that's hardly as true now. Why reward people so interested in third-party support if those same people are the most likely to have jumped ship over to the 360?

Neither do I. I just want Playstation history-relevant ones.

Why reward people so interested in third-party support if those same people are the most likely to have jumped ship over to the 360?

It's not my fault that most of the PS 1 games I played as a child were third-party, or that neither the PS 2 or PS 3 appeal to me.

Or, actually importantly, why should people be punished because they stuck with their favourite third-party IPs simply because they moved to another console?

I suppose all that's really just your personal issue. For my part, Metal Gear and Final Fantasy never caught on with me, and after years of my ignoring both, I doubt they ever will. I see both as worthy of a spot on the roster because they've stayed important to the Playstation, unlike Rayman, Lara Croft, Scorpion or Alucard.

And frankly, if you find Sony's products unappealing, this really isn't the game for you.

Quite frankly, Metal Gear and Final Fantasy are probably (well, Activision is never gonna give us Crash, are they?) the most important third-party franchises to Sony. Plus Tomb Raider had a whole trilogy on the PS 1, so to say that it isn't that important to Sony because it's multi-console now is a bit of an oversight.

To be honest though, I haven't actually played Final Fantasy.tongue And I only played the training missions on Metal Gear Solid (I was a kid, okay?tongue). But I know they are important to Sony's history, meaning the fact that there is no Final Fantasy rep, or Snake, is kinda a poor choice.

Really, the only character-repped franchise in this game I''ve actually played is Medi Evil, and I vaguely remember it because I was like six years old and got stuck on the second level. Most of my time with PS 1 was with Crash Bandicoot, Spyro The Dragon, Gex (the 3D ones), Abe's Oddysee (except mainly I watched, rather than played, same with Heart of Darkness), Tomb Raider, Tony Hawks Pro Skater, some licensed games (mostly good ones!), etc.

Oh, how I'd love it if Gex made it in. Gex was awesome!

[up][up]Tomb Raider games have been getting released across multiple platforms over the franchise's entire lifespan and just happened to do best on the Playstation.

In short, the list of "deserving" third-party franchises is so low as to be a non-issue. The Playstation experience varies so wildly from player to player that just about every third-party pick will have niche-appeal (at best) by default.

Which is why you'll so often find people making third-party requests that instantly and invariably get shouted down as "obscure." Besides Snake, Crash, Spyro and Cloud, everything is obscure.

I'm happy that Sweet Tooth has his Black voice.JS Gilbert is the one and only Sweet Tooth.

Also,Dan Green is in this game!!he's the Jay Snyder(which I believe it is his real name.) who voices The Professor from Ape Escape.Maybe he moved out from New York to get a boost in his career.I mean, after the tragedy and,at the same time, happiness he went through last year,he really needs to pursue bigger goals for the sake of his twins.

On that note, i'm still suprised that the only character that didn't get a previous VA to come back to voice them was Nariko (and possibly Sir Dan, apparently).

[up]Because that totally disproves what I just said.

[up][up]Do you suppose Anna Torv was busy? Maybe TV actors are just harder to get a hold of for these things.

Not that I mind hearing more of Jennifer Hale's voice.

[up][up][up]I don't think geography is as much of a factor anymore these days. We're seeing more projects get released that have Multinational Teams in their casting. I for one say it's about time.
