I was a lurker on the Serebii forums, and a lot of people got really uppity about Ash catching a Lucario (or people wanting Ash to catch a Lucario).
The former were Aura-haters, and the latter Aura-holics. It got so bad that any topic that mentioned Lucario had Aura-haters storming in to make sure nobody talked about Ash catching a Lucario, and made it impossible to talk about him.
Of course, this was because people kept talking about Ash catching a Lucario in the first place.
It was a pretty Vicious Cycle.

One Strip! One Strip! Not a Aura Holic (if being one means I think the anime is ruined forever if Ash doesn't get one) I just think if Ash were to get a new pokemon for mega evolution purposes Lucario would make the most sense, that and I like my idea that Ash's Kalos Team format would be Pikachu, Starter (Froakie), One Pokemon each from the Central (Fletchling), Coastal, and Mountain Areas, plus a Mega Pokemon.
I also wouldn't be oppose to Houndoom. I've been a "Houndour for Ash" Supporter ever since its debut episode in Johto.
My third guess is if Ruby/Sapphire remakes happen Ash will get a Gen III Mega.
I just feel Mega Evolution seems like a great opportunity to give Ash old pokemon they might have wanted to give him in the past, but didn't for whatever reason.

If any of Ash's Pokemon are gonna be a Mega Evolution, it's gonna be Charizard. He's the face of Mega Evolution, and he's Ash's second-most iconic Pokemon. It's not gonna be Lucario, who was in, what, one movie of questionable canon?
Of course, don't you know anything about ALCHEMY?!- Twin clones of Ivan the GreatWhy do you say the canon of movie 8 is questionable? During the episode "Lost Leader Strategy" Ash knew what Aura Sphere was when he saw it and identified Lucario before he brought out his Poke Dex. That kind of says he's met one before. Not to mention Ash's understanding of aura during the Riolu episode.
Yes I know Ash will eventually bring in Charizard (or Heracross), but I'm not expecting to see either of them till the League or a Filler Arc. I'm speculating what Ash might get as he journeys collecting badges.

I gotta say though, all of the ways you can work Mega Stones into your Pokemon's look (Alain's Charizard's snazzy champron-esque chest plate is pretty cool, for instance) are way better to illustrate in the anime XD
But anyways, on the topic of fan fiction I've been debating restarting a stereotypical "Trainer on a journey" that I previously worked on only to lose it when my computer crapped out.
That is the face of a man who just ate a kitten. Raw.I have a fanfic webcomic planned with me writing and someone else doing the art, the two of us working out designs and such. Would anyone like to be the artist or know anyone who would be interested in being the artist?
The working title is "Pokémon Delta: Hydra's Conquest" (kinda cheesy, but hey, it's a working title). Basically, this world is like PMD- all mons, no humans, and there are various kingdoms based on types (ie water and ice are one kingdom, rock, ground and steel are another kingdom, etc). Hydra, lead by Queen Gwangi (Tyrantrum), has been conquering kingdom after kingdom, but has suddenly stopped entirely. Pokémon worldwide have also been changing type or giving birth to pokemon of a different type for several years, around the same time Hydra started it's campaign of conquering other kingdoms. Queen Cresselia thinks their is a link and has hired Sybil (Delphox), Tallula (Greninja) and Ceara (Chesnaught), 3 mercenaries, to sneak deep into the original Hydra Queendom to try and find out why they've stopped and why pokemon are changing type.
That's the rough outline. If anyone would like to be the artist, please send me samples of your art, or if you know someone who might be interested please send me their info.
The name's Axel. Wanna check out Aim 4 The Head, my Zombie Apocalypse spoof comic?: http://www.smackjeeves.com/comicprofile.php?id=138048I'll put this here...
I guess... It's nothing special really... just your everyday Pokémon fanfic...
Nice to see the name "Brendan" being spelled properly — even if it isn't Hoenn!Brendan.
I had a dog-themed avatar before it was cool.So I had this idea for a fanfic that I don't think has been done before and I wanted a little help developing it.
The basic idea for the fic was a what if scenario. What if one day a bunch of Pokemon suddenly began appearing in New York? I already have a few setting details planned out as well.
Initially I was thinking about giving the main character no knowledge of Pokemon but then I realized that would be way too cliche and instead decided to give him knowledge of gen I and gen III to make his fight against the pokes a little more balanced.
Pokeballs probably wouldn't become common place for civilians and would instead be given to police to combat the threat of Pokemon.
I would also try to make the fic have a realistic take on just what the world would do if Pokemon existed but I also don't want to make it to grimdark, I want to maintain the wonder of meeting and catching Pokemon for the first time.
What do you guys think? Is the idea unique? What could use some improvement?
Realistic but not grimdark (ie actually realistic)? I don't even care about anything else. Do it.
I couldn't conceive a dream so wet; your bongos make me congo. His eyes trailed the spec of dust drifting through the air lazily. It slowly traveled from the window that was letting in sunlight and down onto the 27 year old desks that were aligned in neat rows. His fingers tapped against the solid mahogany wood and as he sighed. The boredom of being in school after school was unbearable.
The resident teacher, Ms. Simmons, was all too willing to let the other teachers use her room for detention. To be honest he didn't even deserve detention, a group of kids were messing with a girl so he jumped in and beat the shit out of them...
...At least that's what he would say if anyone asked how he ended up sitting in detention.
In actuality he did jump in to fight but he didn't exactly manage to get any hits in.
He stopped his inner monologue when he noticed that the old creaky door next to him opened. Ms Simmons, his math teacher, stood in the frame of the doorway.
The ends of her old yellow dress swung around just above her shoes as she gave the boy an annoyed look.
“Logan Summers you're free to go home now.” she declared spitefully.
Logan gave Ms. Simmons a fake smile.
“Thank you.”
He flipped his book bag over his shoulder and made his way past the bitter woman. He stuffed his hands in his pockets and slipped in his ear buds as he made his way down the slightly glossy hallways. His shoes squeaked as he made his way past the old and weary janitors cleaning the school's floors.
The music blaring from his ear buds almost made him forget that he had to use the bathroom. He paused the play list he was listening to on his phone and made his way into the bathroom and into one of the nearby stalls.
After finishing his business he stopped and stared at his reflection in the greasy mirror. He examined his brownish skin that was slightly bruised from his scuffle with the three boys.
“What time is it...” he mumbled and pulled out his phone.
“4:00PM?” he sighed and made his way out the bathroom and out the school. His mom was most certainly going to kill him when he got home. Maybe if he could make an excuse he'd find some way out of his certain death.
He was only a few blocks away from the school when he heard the sirens of police cars blaring. He could see several police men and women frantically grabbing their pistols and setting up roadblocks with their cars.
The sight of these police men acting so panicked and unsure was unusual. Normally the officers were calm under pressure and could handle anything. His curiosity was piqued and he decided to get closer to the craziness going on.
As he got closer to the cars he could see a fire was burning through several small houses. Two police officers he recognized were shouting commands into their radios. One officer was running through the street with a shotgun at the ready.
Then he heard it.
One of the most ear splitting noises imaginable shot through the air and deafened anybody unfortunate enough to hear it. Logan grabbed his his head in pain, his vision was getting blurry and it hurt to stand. He had to get away from the sound.
He opened his eyes and his gaze met something he never wanted to see again.
In front of him stood something demonic.
The 'demon' in front of him was similar to a shark in appearance. A dark shade of orange came down from its jaw and all the way to its belly which stopped and intercepted a bright yellow spot. Another patch of yellow in the shape of a star covered the area above its nose. Several spikes jabbed out from its purple skin around its fat legs.
The most notable feature of the monster was its two large dorsal fins that it wave in the air violently.
The demon's bright amber eyes shone for a moment as it stared down Logan...
...And that was the last thing he remembered.
Here's an excerpt from my fic. Hopefully this is interesting enough to maintain an audience.

Shameless self-promotion, but I've written a fanfic and you can find it in my signature.
The story is going to be a rather typical journey story but having less focus on the gym challenge side and more on the characters and how they interact with each other. So it's a Slice of Life/Friendship story that is a bit more realistic than usual but still fairly light-hearted for the most part, though there'll be a few darkness spikes.
So if you like character-centric stories, could you give my story a look and tell me what you think?
I'll take a look and edit my thoughts into this post when I'm done.
EDIT: I've read the entire first chapter and it's pretty good. But I did notice a few run on sentences and some minor grammar mistakes. Nothing that would distract from the writing though. Keep up the story dude!

Thanks! And yeah, I'm not a native speaker so I can make some grammar mistakes without even noticing at first. It's why I kinda need a beta reader
Dropping a rec that I haven't seen on our recs page.
"Eris never intended to become a servant to Yveltal. When a honedge attaches itself to her arm, she's forced to seek aid from the destruction pokemon, who offers his assistance in exchange for her help: turning her into the natural disaster he can no longer be."
Best part about this story is the Alternative Character Interpretation of Xerneas, Yveltal, and Lysandre (especially Lysandre, who becomes really interesting because of it). It's currently ongoing and updates weekly on Saturdays.
On an unrelated note, I actively avoid any fics with Ash and prefer OCs, since Pokemon is one of those franchises where OCs are easy to get away with (on top of being believable) and Ash becomes unrecognizable in most fics anyway. Also because too much Shipping.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?So I made a fanfic where I put an elf from my science fantasy setting into the Pokemon world. A little something fun I worked on between my other projects. Let me know what you think. The Alien From Space https://m.fanfiction.net/s/11210733/1/The-Alien-From-Space
Hey guys. The recommendations page feels a bit too huge for me to look through, can you provide me some links to some good "normal guy gets send to Pokemon world" fanfics? Thanks in advance.
This is basically an expanded adaptation of the games, with elements from other areas of Pokémon mythology (including the anime). The main character is the female player character (Leaf in the Kanto-based games), and her starter is a Clefairy.
In addition to encouraging fans to read it if they like it, I'm also encouraging the fans to take up a challenge to see which parts of the mythos they can identify and from which area of the mythos that part comes, if it's not something I came up with myself.
A non-standard starter (which is this case is also a rare Pokemon) in an existing region is setting off a red flag for me. I'll pass.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Well, both the anime and the Yellow Version had the protagonist start with a non-standard starter (Pikachu in both cases), and besides, wasn't Ash originally supposed to start with a Clefairy in the anime?
Just because the anime did it does not automatically make it a good idea, plus Pikachu is (sort of) excused for its Series Mascot status. Clefairy was supposed to be the series mascot before Pikachu's popularity exploded, so it would have been a bit easier to swallow if that happened.
My issue is more that it's a retelling of Kanto and one of the first thing the writer does is give the main character a rare mon as the starter that shouldn't be available until a bit later. It would have been better to hand Leaf the Clefairy later; Mt. Moon isn't that far in the game, so Clefairy could still be one of the prominent mons.
If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with?Yeah, I'm not afraid to admit that giving Leaf a Clefairy is based on an archaic view of the franchise. In addition to making it a love letter to Pokémon itself, I also had in mind marking its technical 20th anniversary (as the first games were originally supposed to be released during the 1995 holiday season, which explains the 1995 copyright date on the games) with a reminder of the brief time before Pikachu surpassed Clefairy in the popularity polls. This series is, for all intents and purposes, my way of celebrating the franchise's 20th anniversary.
ETA: Ultimately, the series isn't going to take place just in Kanto. It's going to span every generation of the franchise, all the way up to the present generation, and it'll follow the adventures of all the female player characters (and not just Leaf). Plus, the other female player characters will receive standard starters (and in the case of either Kris or Lyra, there will be a twist that gives her all three of the Johto starters in more or less one go, based loosely on a Gen II glitch).

God the fanfic well seems have dried up on me recently. Nothing on my watchlist has updated in like a month and I can't find anything good from the newly updated list. I have been trying to read Heart of a Trainer: Ranger but I lack the motivation to for whatever reason.
Anybody have any recommendations for slice-of-life or episodic fics without Ash in them? Finished or WIP, I don't care as long as it can hold me over for a bit.

If a tree falls in the forest and nobody remembers it, who else will you have ice cream with? There's a good fanfiction made by a person in Bulbagarden that you might like, the name is The Long Walk, I would link it but I'm at my college's computer.
I really need to update my fanfic. College and other stuff is sucking my time and energy.
Rob: What I was going for was that Goukazaru would be a single-unit Daizyuzin with Emperte as Dragon Caesar and Dodaitose as King Brachion. Three-piece gattai is rather difficult to envision. Of course, you wouldn't have that problem, taking one from all 6 generations.
On the subject of Lucario: I'm guessing that the reason why the Ranger 2 mini-series Riolu didn't go with Ash was due to Status Quo Is God; same reason why Meloetta wasn't a permanent member of the team. Given what the writers are going for with Serena, I'd say that Korrina's Mega-Lucario going to Ash (as in the games) is fair game. (In that the current crop doesn't seem to be beholden to Status Quo Is Arceus.) At least until TPC pulls the rug out from under the writers.
Ketchum's corollary to Clarke's Third Law: Any sufficiently advanced tactic is indistinguishable from blind luck.
