Surely we can find a name that shows this trope better, and one that would actually be witty, while this is more awkward. Plus it's not really being spoiled as much as wanting to be spoiled.

I'm on the internet. My arguments are invalid.

That is a pretty bad name.

I was expecting a royalty trope. Then, after the first sentence, Spoiled Demigod came to mind. I had to reread the first line several times to get a subtrope of Holier Than Thou (or equivalent). Is the phrase Gods Gift To Earth accurate?

"God's Gift To Earth" would be better off as a redirect for Entitled Bastard or Entitled to Have You, since it's a preexisting term (well, kinda - it's usually "God's Gift To Women" I think) that is usually used that way.

Went with something broader. Men/Women tends to be used in a sexual context, while "Earth" is general arrogance.

Good point. So, the one with women for entitled to have you, and the one with earth for entitled bastard.

As for this trope, hmm... Spoiled Child Of God would solve the confusion with nobility. Would people understand that "child of God" include adults?

I'm not even sure that "Spoiled" is a good word to use, seeing how it generally implies that the parent did something to spoil them. This seems to be more of a sense of entitlement that is completely disconnected to what God may or may not have done (or even if He exists).

Posting definitions here:

Some characters have a very immature relation to God or His local equivalent. "God loves ME, not you, and He will provide me with anything I want." This comes in two main variations with two main variants each.

1. Faith: Bob has this mindset about God.

1A/Bratty Faith: Bob is religious, and expects God to take care of him and his life, favoring him over everyone else. Even if Bob is a fully-grown adult, he comes across as if he's a spoiled bratty five-year-old and God is a regular over-worked parent. Likely to also be a Windmill Crusader.

1B/Whiny Faith: Bob is not religious (either as in "not very religious" or as in Hollywood Atheist), but keeps whining at God that he would believe in Him if He just started pampering him. This may be combined with a legitimate Rage Against the Heavens. Accusation: Bob has this mindset about Alice, expecting her to have this mindset about God. Thus he steer the conversation in this direction, trying to expose Alice as having the "Spoiled Brat Of The Lord" kind of conceited "personal relationship with Jesus".

2A/False Accusation: Bob turns out to be wrong about Alice, looking rather silly in the process. 2B/Insightful Accusation: Bob is right, and Alice is probably a Straw Loser.

It seems to not be related to a "child of god" at least not in a deity like effect. It seems to be about worshipers or priests. While that can be a way to refer to them, it's much more likely to get misused to mean the offspring of one.

The risk that someone would take the title literally is shared by all titles discussed here thus far. "God's gift" could be taken as an actual gift, and so on.

Personally, when I see that it's the Lord I generally assume it refers to deities rather than nobility, but the trope name still isn't much good. Just that my issue is with the spoiled brat part.

Last I checked, the name doesn't tell us that it's "the lord" in that context. And the term "the lord" actually is referred to nobility, specifically the local ruler.

Does it really matter why I don't think it's a good name? Assuming we go for a rename, it's not like I have control over the votes.

If we can figure out why a name is bad, we can figure out how to make it better.

Gods Gift To Whatever is at least a pre-existing term with a specific meaning. Child Of God is one that will continuously run into misuse as the actual child of a god. That's the fault of the piece of shit known as the english language, but them's the breaks.

Clearly we should change the wiki's language to lojban (only half joking).

Anyway, keeping spoiled in there is a good idea. Spoiled Child With Divine Blessing? Ugh, this is harder than you'd think.

Okay, I'm having a problem. Is this just a worshiper trying to invoke Hollier Than Thou or does the person actually have the favor of a deity of some kind?

[up] They don't have any real holy favour beyond coincidences, luck or their own faith. They just THINK they ought to have it.

One week from now, I'll switch the title and redirect - unless someone has disagreed (or bothered to add some crowner or whatever).
