Agreed - YMMV, or restricted to in-universe examples (don't we have have that one already, by the way?). The examples need pruning too - while often fun, they're a complete mess.
Isn't this restricted to in-universe? Meaning, aren't any WMG examples misuse?
I don't know. Unless there was a change in the definition since launch. This is still a subtrope of Everyone Is Jesus in Purgatory, which is YMMV.
This trope is pretty much suggestive imagery, and most of it is intentional, for symbolism. If we could pick out the examples that are unintentional then that would be subjective, because Viewers Are Horny.
You're talkin' a lot, but you're not sayin' anything. — Talking Heads, 1977What? The definition of this trope is subjective. Now, since we don't have or least I can't find any trope from intentionally phallic shaped objects or suggestive imagery, we could change the definition to that and turn this into a trope separate from Everyone Is Jesus in Purgatory.
bump, do we have another trope about intentionally phallic objects or sexually imagery?

Compensating for Something, I think, though that's a mess in its own right.
Yea, that page still needs work. There's still a story telling trope to be had about intentional phallic or sexual imagery. It happens a lot in comedic works.
Subjective. Please make this subjective. I really don't think that it's always intended to be phallic. A cigar is just a goddamned cigar sometimes, people.
Blue Pacific, signing off...If a cigar is just a cigar, don't include it as an example at all.
Unfortunately, least by the current definition, that's the kind of example it allows. We could change this to intentional phallic or sexual imagery.

Crowner hooked.
I don't understand. How does making this YMMV help it? Isn't people adding subjective examples the problem?
Assuming we think the examples are inherently subjective by the nature of the trope, then acknowledging that and making it YMMV allows them to migrate safely to the YMMV page where they belong. So, if the problem is "YMMV being used as if it's objective," then yes, it would solve the problem by categorizing it correctly.
Rhymes with "Protracted."The page was defined as being a sub trope of Everyone Is Jesus in Purgatory and since Everyone Is Jesus in Purgatory is subjective then this page should also be subjectve.
Ah, all right. Let's closely define it that actual examples belong in Compensating for Something and personal interpretations belong here.
Renaming might make the difference more clear.
Compensating for Something is deals with a specific situation, that does not cover intentional cases of this trope. I think that intentional cases would be cover by Visual Innuendo.
You're right. Guess that's covered then.
Should we rename Freud Was Right to something more obviously YMMV so people won't wrongly pothole to it? Like Everything Symbolizes Sex With Jesus In Purgatory?
That title suggestion is a joke, right?
An Ear Worm is like a Rickroll: It is never going to give you up.Everything Symbolizes Sex would make a good, clear title, though.
On that note, Everything Symbolizes A Phallus would be even more letter-accurate.
Crown Description:
What would be the best way to fix the page?
So, there have been some improvements made to the trope description but it's still not clear on what this trope is. Also, seeing as this is a subtrope of Everyone Is Jesus in Purgatory, which is YMMV, this trope should also be YMMV.
