Mine comes from the symbolism of both. Pretty much "Dangerous knowledge".
Feminist in the streets, sex slave in the sheetsBack in my Sugizo phase, I was dreaming up some kind of ethereal sounding stage name. I decided to look through a list of cosmological happenstances, saw the word "solstice", which has a really nice sound, but looks really cold and ugly, so I changed the "i" to an "a" because it's a much rounder, warmer letter. And now I'm Solstace.
This will still probably be my stage name if I ever become a solo act, or part of a signed band.
Ecstasy is Sustained Intensityi was trying to register myself as captain obvious in kongregate
but it was taken
so i promoted myself to commander obvious
It worked out for the best. It's a much cleverer name than Captain Obvious.
My name origin is stupid and embarrassing, so I choose not to divulge. I think it may be somewhere else on this site already, though.

Always, somewhere, someone is fighting for you. As long as you remember them, you are not alone.Saaay it, Sporkadork.
I needed a weird name for some reason, and Malph's, the grocery store in The Powerpuff Girls, had a pretty weird name. A while later I used it online as a username and it became my primary one.
@ Spork: I think I remember you mentioning it somewhere else, but can't remember where or what that origin was.

So, in the U.S., randomly stripping is a signal that you want to sing the national anthem? - That Human@Bobby: I remember some other Troper mentioning that she had a relative called Bobby who's last name started with a G. I'm pretty sure it's not you. For one thing, he doesn't mind being called "Booby", if i recall correctly.
Also, my name, well, I'm a human, and I wasn't sure what was a good name choice to describe me, so I went with something like that.

something"A" is an article adjective. It's self explanatory.
"Stray" comes from the fact that I adopted my cat from off the street. He died a few years ago after fighting feline AIDS, so I did it in memory of him.
"Bard" comes from Final Fantasy IV, and and my love of music.
Put 'em all together, and you get A Stray Bard.
Tropers watching moviesThe name of a supporting character in a somewhat obscure cartoon that has come to influence my entire style of writing.
Picked my user name up from Dwarf fortress while going through all the words and it just stuck also like the way it sounds.
\it also means gear in dwarvin.
Note to self: Check one's pulse more oftenOkay, long-ish story:
Back in...oh, 2008-ish, I needed a somewhat snappy nickname on Steam. So, I thought a bit and decided to snowclone the name Rocket Racer (from Lego Racers) to make RocketRunner. Later, I decided to tack on an additional bit, and I eventually ended up with "Not a Spy" on my Steam nickname (because I thought it was funny and would confuse people. It didn't). Then, every time I signed up onto a website, I would usually use some variant of this, so on here, I came up with RocketDude.
I know, not very original or clever.
"Hipsters: the most dangerous gang in the US." - Pacific MackerelI think I was really obsessed with Digimon when I first started hanging out on Internet forums, the name's from there somewhere iirc and I've kinda just stuck with it.
Ithilion: Named after my character in Final Fantasy XI. For the story behind that, I was stumped on the same and wanted something that sounded vaguely appropriate for a fantasy setting. Eventually, Ithilion came to mind. Later I realized that it's one letter off from Ithilien from The Lord Of The Rings and felt kinda silly.
The Brave: Wanted to add something more to it. Originally used for my new You Tube channel once I started doing a Let's Play, since I wanted a fresh name with none of the associations of my old one. Eventually decided on bravery since I was tackling Demons Souls.

It's a diminutive of my real name, plus my favourite number (not, as some have theorized, my birth year— although it's close!).
Thanks for the all fish!First time I needed to make a username while playing Age Of Empires. I was really into the Animorphs series at the time, so I went with an abbreviation of Andalite BaNDiT. I've suffered a serious case of inability to stick to one or two handles over the years, and several months ago I decided to just pick one and keep it consistent. I chose ABNDT for nostalgia's sake.

byeWe've had this thread two or three times already, but they've probably been cut or something.
Anyway, "Morven" was the name of a character in an extremely bad fantasy I was writing in my teens. Complete Mary Sue wish-fulfulment character in a darker style. When it came time to get a username on online stuff, I didn't want to use my real name and it's too common not to be taken besides, so I used this, and it kinda stuck. Twenty years ago.
I've since discovered that it is actually a real name albeit a rare one.
The character was female, which is quite indicative of personal issues, I think.
A brighter future for a darker age.In many other places on the 'net, I'm simply Grunt. This dates back to the very first days of battle.net, when the original Diablo was all the rage; after two or three other initial silly-sounding account names, I decided to lift a basic unit name from Blizzard's other then-popular franchise.
The s came later, after 'Grunt' by itself started to proliferate (no, it was before then, and well before then). Why s? Who knows. Perhaps it's an initial. (I've certainly played on that interpretation before.)
This space for rent. Cost: your soul.Fuschlatz is a name that I completely made up out of nothing one day, and I've been using it almost exclusively on the Internet ever since.
Have I posted in this? It's my initials and family name combined
...a little brother should belong to his older sister, right? - Orimura ChifuyuEh, I've always loved worldbuilding, ever since I was small.
Of the fantastical settings I used to create, 'Eventua' was the earliest one I can actually remember, so, uh, yes...!
Time Life, yeah.
The funny thing is, writing for Time would be a dream job for me.
