Okay, my parents are only allowing me to buy one more game for the rest of the year and there are several that I want to get. I am trying to build up a selection of ps2 classics. Please give me your recommendation and the reasons why. These are the games I am considering.

  • Shin Megami Tensei Nocturne. Reasons: I love the smt series, this is a very rare game and I love games with a challenge.
  • Devil May Cry 1+3:SE. Reasons: I have hardly any good or challenging hack and slash games, have seen the gameplay and love it. I also like the atmosphere.
  • Okami. Reasons: widely regarded as a classic. Love the visual style and the unique brush concept. Does seem to lack challenge however.
  • One of the MGS Games. Love the detailed worlds and want to see what the hype is about.
Feel free to reccomend some games of your own that are not on my list.

My choices would be Okami or the DMC series. Both are great games, and both can last you a while. DMC has high replay value, and Okami is just really freaking long.

MGS you might also like IF you are a fan of stealth games. If not, they can be pretty freaking hard, and they have, to be honest, rather clumsy gameplay. If you get those, I would recommend finding the collection. It has the most recent versions of each of the games, and MGS 3 became one of my favorite games of all time once the 3rd person camera was introduced.

My suggestions are Dragon Quest 8, Final Fantasy 10 though that's getting a remake soon, Zone Of The Enders, both of them, though I suggest getting the first first because it has a demo for MGS 2, the entire Shadow Hearts series, the Ratchet And Clank series, which can be found pretty easily for cheap, Persona4, Radiata Stories, Yakuza2, and Dark Cloud 2.

And if you're a fan of SMT then you should definitely get Digital Devil Saga. Its two games, but they're both fantastic.

I'd say Okami, or Shadow of the Colossus if you don't already have it.

If you can only get one, I'd go with Nocturne, as it's a lot longer than say, one of the MGS games. Bear in mind that Nocturne has a very minimalistic story compared to Persona or DDS, but the gameplay is solid. I suggest playing without using any guides, because the game becomes quite easy otherwise.

I don't mind minimalist stories. Okay, I've ruled MGS out for now as I'm not sure if I'd like it as much as the others.

I'd say Okami. If you can find it (and still have some extra money on the side), I'd also recommend looking for the Devil May Cry 5th Anniversary Collection, which includes 1, 2, and 3:SE all in one bundle. It's a pretty good deal, if I do say so myself.

The main problem I have with Okami is that it seems to lack challenge. Also, could people please go into more detail as to why they would say said title? Thanks for your help everyone.

It has a distinct artistic direction and the game comes up with very creative puzzles and uses for the Celestial Paintbrush, which helps makes Okami an intriguing action adventure dungeon hack.

I didn't really mind the lack of challenge because all of the other strengths of game overshadowed the drawbacks.
