Name: Matthew Kent (Matt)

History: Reasonably wealthy, with pretty supportive parents. Spent his grade school years in a small Catholic school, with uniforms and everything. As such, spent a good portion of high school trying to find himself and doing a bunch of different things. Now he plays a lot of tennis and is getting steadily better at card tricks.

Appearance: 5'8", brown hair, blue eyes. Never, ever seen without a hat, but the type of hat varies. Despite being free of the uniform, still tends to lean toward collared shirts. Not big, but not scrawny either due to much tennis-playing.

Personality: Considers himself kind of a nerd, but his attempt to be eclectic means that he doesn't have a lot of knowledge in any specific category. Pretty smart, but mostly cuz he has a good memory. Not exactly shy; he's very outgoing and friendly, but he talks very little about himself. Doesn't really trust himself to open up to anyone, but is happy to listen to other people's problems and such. Kind of strict moral standards due to Catholic upbringing, but isn't very religious.

Skills: Dextrous. Carries a deck of cards on him at all times. Reasonably strong/fast due to all the tennis, but no more than any high school athlete. Reads a lot, mostly in the fantasy/scifi bent, and considers himself kind of a nerd, so he can deal with a lot of the strangeness.

Other: Allergic to shrimp.

Sounds fine. Is he from the same (public) school as the other students, or from somewhere else?

He's from the same school. The private school is the one he went to before high school.

Ok, gotcha. I'll wait for a little more time to see who else signs up, and then I'll get you in.

Spiralalg,

If you're still interested, feel free to join in the RP now.

(Your backstory — you found yourself in a vast grassland once you had shifted over to the new world. After a day of wandering on your own, some shepherds found you and took you to the nearest town. There, some soldiers escorted you on horseback to the capital of the Queen of Hearts/Queen of the Air. Once you arrived there, a steward showed you to some luxuriously decorated rooms, and explained that the Queen would have an audience with you within a day, but she was expecting some other guests and wanted to meet you at the same time as them. After a couple days of waiting, however, a summons has come to get yourself presentable, as the others have arrived and the Queen is waiting to see you.)

So, umm, what about my proposed character and the related plot?

Nick, I've thought about it, and I think for now I'm going to enforce a one-character-per-player rule. I think it's the best way to ensure balance in the game, and to make sure no one playing style comes to dominate. (For instance, Nick, you seem to enjoy anti-hero/villain protagonist types. I think that this adds a really interesting wrinkle to the story, and I'm intrigued to see where Kyle's interactions with the group go — but that doesn't seem to be where the rest of the players are, and I therefore don't want the team to be weighted down by token evil teammates.)

Keep the character in reserve, though — should anything happen to Kyle (evil gm laugh), he is pre-approved to take his place. [No, I am NOT actively planning to kill off Kyle. But — and this is fair warning to everyone — I am not going to keep characters alive artifically, and so it is entirely possible that some of the existing ones will not make it to the end. In that case, you are more than welcome to enter with a new character.]

alright, I understand. I will not weigh down the rest of the players.

Something a little different. I had the idea for this kind of character early on, but the description of their hands intertwined being the last thing really got my attention. I'll need Karl's addition input before I'll go any further.

My idea is for a character that is the result of recombining two bystanders torn apart by the transfer, Sue's friends Cammie and Ron (mostly due to that image mentioned above). Which could also explain the delay in their arrival.

Name: Cameron (Cammie-Ron, get it?)

History:

Appearance: Cameron looks extremely androgynous. He's below average for a guy, above average for a girl. His build suggests either a girl lacking curves or a guy lacking muscle. His hair is medium length, straight blond(e).
One distinguishing feature is that he has heterochromia, his left eye is Cammie's blue and his right Ron's dark brown.

Personality: Cameron has a slightly split personality, surprise, surprise. Overall all he is very curious, constantly looking at the world both as a photographer and journalist. Also he's a bit of a joker, though more limited to people he knows. If left alone he's now prone to melancholy as he can't help feel he's missing his better half.
Cameron isn't aware of the recombination. He knows there's something wrong but not what. And really his situation is a little bit of stretch. In fact, he's suffering a mild amount of amnesia, he knows stuff but conscious recall of where he learnt it is beyond him.

Skills: He's observant and a pretty good cook.

Other: The recombination I guess.

Interesting idea. Some questions:

What are Cameron's memories? Does he/she remember things from before the transfer to another world? (Would he/she recognize Sue, for instance?)

Would Sue (or anyone else) recognize him/her (and start freaking out over what had happened)?

What pronoun should I use for him/her?

  • Name: Addison Crane
  • History: Has lived in America all her life along with her parents. Her attendance rate at LJB is roughly 50%, and even then she barely pays attention in class. As such she's a pretty big idiot who had to repeat a grade. She tends to seek out fights out of boredom, and has been caught a few times pick-pocketing, which she stopped after her own house was robbed. She has a general distaste for authority, and has problems with trusting grown-ups.
  • Appearance: She's of Asian descent, and has short black hair, brown eyes and yellow skin. 5'7" and pretty muscular. She wears a black jacket, T-shirt and trainers, and dark brown combats. Her clothes are rather tattered and her overall appearance scruffy from spending so much time outdoors. She tends to have at least a couple of bruises at any given time from fighting.
  • Personality: Addison tends to be loud, brash and violent. She has quite the dirty mouth, to the point she swears at people even when she's trying to be nice to them. Despite this she's loyal to friends and looks out for people who aren't being mean to her. She's also very impatient and often ends up doing what she likes when she's bored, even if that is rushing into fights.
  • Skills: Natural impatience lead her to become a traceuse, which in turn has made her more analytical of her surroundings and a faster runner. She's physically fit and durable, and despite having no formal training she can generally handle herself in a fistfight. Also, she has a little skill in picking pockets.
  • Other: Due to her unisex name, rough personality, appearance and being flat-chested, she's unsurprisingly often mistaken for a boy. She doesn't really mind it though.

Is this an okay character?

[up][up] I suspect that They (the pronoun I'm using for Cameron) would recognize Sue, but I doubt she'd recognize them. Maybe?

[up][up] Seems fine. She's accepted. Would you mind waiting a bit until she gets introduced, however? The group should be going to a new area soon, and she can meet them there. (At least, this will be soon in game time, but in real life time it might not be until after the Christmas holiday, given that real life tends to get in the way of posting during that time).

I thought I had replied, apparently it got lost.

Firstly, Cameron has decided he's a guy. So male pronouns are best.

Cameron's memories are muddled and veiled. He knows things, but doesn't remember how. As for autobiographical stuff, it's almost all out of reach. He has a feeling that something very odd has happened, and something isn't right but not what. And really, inter-dimensional transfer, and recombination a likely conclusion? He doesn't remember the transfer, and probably just feel an inexplicable familiarity for Sue. And rest to a lesser extent.

Would Sue (or anyone else) recognize him/her (and start freaking out over what had happened)?
Probably not, I'm guessing neither was androgynous to begin with so Cameron doesn't look much like them. But once they know, they'll probably be able to see some resemblance. Like how once you're told that two people are related you start seeing a resemblance between them.
