Supposedly, there's a rumor of a new Digimon Story game to be announced soon. That reddit thread also has a comment from somebody with more info, though their source link is 4chan, so take what you will from that.

The comment in quesiton:

It's called Digimon Story: Ex Machina for PS 4 and VITA.

"The latest issue of japanese magazine V-Jump reveals a new Digimon game titled DIGIMON STORY EXMACHINA for Playstation 4 and Playstation VITA.

Due out in 2018, the game combines regular monster training RPG gameplay with slice of life sections. The story introduction says as follows: "When the protagonist is obliged to leave his country after being accused of his father's strange murder, the town of Small Fuefuki becomes a new home that bridges his world and the digital one". An image of the hero summoning his partner, Beelzemon is shown. V-20th Anniversary Digimon Blitz Greymon and Cres Garurumon are set to debut in the Digimon Story series with this game, which serves as a follow-up to 2015's Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth."

http://boards.4chan.org/v/thread/370810896

BlitzGreymon and CresGarurumon were shown in this With the Will forum post, and if you've beaten Digimon World -next 0rder-, it's speculated that these two are highly likely to be the component Digimon that make up the final form of Omegamon Zwart-D, Omegamon Alter-B.

Speaking of Next Order, I beat it a long while ago, and enjoyed it immensely (to the point that I almost considered digging out my Digimon World Championship DS game in order to relive the V-Pet experience again). It definitely has its issues, but I found it much more fun than the original Digimon World. I finished the game with Ophanimon (because Dianamon was locked) and Minervamon, though now I kind of wished I had used a WarGreymon and WereGarurumon variant for the final battle.

I still have post-game stuff to finish, as well as the DLC mission and possibly trying to get the Platinum Trophy for the game, unfortunately, I just got both Final Fantasy XV and The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild on my plate to play, so I don't know if I'll bother with the trophies in the long run.

Now to belatedly answer a couple of the above posts:

I have a choice of getting any one Digimon game for NDS. Although I haven't watched the anime, just read a few stories with Digimon, and it sounded kinda cool. So, what would you recommend?
You may have gotten one of them by now, but I'll answer anyway:

I believe there were only three Digimon games released in the US on the DS, Digimon World DS (aka Digimon Story), Digimon World Dawn/Dusk (aka Digimon Story Sunburst/Moonlight), and Digimon World Championships.

World DS and Dawn/Dusk are traditional turn-based RPGs where your party is made up of six Digimon, three of which participate in battle (though all get EXP regardless of participation). You raise your Digimon by gaining EXP to meet the stat requirements for them to evolve to the next stage, but the gimmick of these titles is that you can also Degenerate your Digimon and bring them back to a lower stage, but with higher stats, while also raising their "Aptitude" attribute, which determines their current max level. Basically, in order to make your team stronger, you need to constantly raise your Digimon, evolve them, level them up in their new form, then Degenerate them to raise their Max Level, and repeat the process.

You also have a Digimon Farm, which helps raise your "Boxed" mons (as in, the ones not currently in your party), somewhat similar to the V-Pet games.

World DS is based on the Digimon Savers anime, at least a little. The main characters from that anime play a role in the game's storyline, and your starter Digimon are based off the main three's partner Digimon. That said, you don't need to watch the anime to know anything about what's going on in the game really; it's its own story. Though I don't recall much of the plot of that game since it's been years since I've beaten it.

Dawn/Dusk are sequels that update the gameplay, but not significantly. There are more Digimon, but also more restrictions in evolving, plus Aptitude raises a lot slower than it did in World, making the game feel bit more tedious. However, the Farm aspect is updated to be much more useful in an attempt to alleviate this.

Dawn/Dusk are also two versions of the same game, not unlike the main Pokemon titles, and the story changes a little depending on which version you have. The basic plot is that you're an ace member of Team Light/Dark and something happens that causes the opposing side to become antagonistic, so it's up to you and your team to figure out what happened to them.

Between the two, I'd honestly start with World DS, if only because I feel that Dawn/Dusk could get a little too tedious and doesn't add enough to make it a better starting point. For the record, Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth is part of the same subseries, and plays like the DS games, so if you happen to have a PS 4 or a Vita, I'd recommend that over either of the DS Story games.

World Championships is literally a DS incarnation of the Digimon V-Pet games. There's no story. You just raise your Digimon to be the strongest Mons in the world, and the goal is to win the Championship. Honestly, progression-wise it's a lot like the Monster Rancher games: you raise your Mons in a farm of some sort for some amount of ingame time, then a tournament occurs, you enter it, win or lose, and start the process over.

The game isn't an RPG, but a pet-raising simulator. Your Digimon will need to eat, sleep, and poop just as much as they need to train. Like Digimon World (the original PS One game), how you train your mon will determine how it fights and how it evolves.

I recommend it only if you want to know what the V-Pet games are like. Unlike World and Next Order, there's absolutely no story and no fighting in random battles outside the tournaments, which isn't everyone's cup of tea. I haven't gotten very far in it myself, and if I find it again, I'm probably just going to reset so I can reacclimate myself to it again.

Why is it that Asia gets a physical English version of Cyber Sleuth for the Vita while North America has it be digital only? I'd love a phyiscal copy but I can't justify the price it would cost to import one.
Because Cyber Sleuth was released due to fan demand for more Digimon games in the West and Bamco was worried about costs at the timenote , so they cut corners and, because the Vita is considered a "dead system" (as in, less people owned one) in the West, chose to only release the physical version for the PS 4.

The producer for Digimon games has debunked the Ex Machina rumors, calling them false. Though he didn't address the rumor of the magazine having details for a new Digimon game so that might be true.

Interesting.

Wonder when this will take place. It's called Hackers Memory, and the memories of everyone on the planet (accept for the MC, Nokia, Arata, Yuugo and Yuuko) were erased at the end of the first game, so perhaps this will deal with the aftermath of that.

Rumor is that it's a prequel focusing on a completely different character than that of the original.

Oh. That's interesting. Who knows, we might at least see cameos from some of the other characters (sans Aiba of course).

Cool, I hope they make dungeons more complex and interesting as those were the weakest point of Cyber Sleuth imo.

Double post, but here's another magazine pic with Dagomon in Odaiba.

Also the starter Digimon for the new game are apparently Tentomon, Gotsumon, and Betamon. Probably going to pick Betamon for my first playthrough.

Hm, I wonder if that Dagomon will end up referencing it's supposed scrapped role it was supposed to have in Digimon Adventure 2... Assuming it's not just a random encounter.

Looks like Crescemon's in, which hopefully means that Lunamon and Lekismon are also in. I always found it weird that Lunamon's entire line had been absent in every game that included its final form, Dianamon, in it. Lunamon's been a favorite of mine since playing Dusk long ago (and right now; trying to actually finish it before finishing Cyber Sleuth), but outside of Xross Wars and Digimon World Championships, I think only Dianamon's been promoted (not saying the Previous Player-Character Cameo in Cyber Sleuth wasn't appreciated, but...).

Hopefully this also means the other Olympus XII Digimon are in. So far, I think only Dianamon and Minervamon have made regular appearances (with both of them having a bit of an Odd Friendship as NPCs in Next Order), and Lunamon/Dianamon's Dawn counterpart, Coronamon/Apollomon, hasn't been in anything else as far as I know, which I always thought was a odd.

The MC seems to have a Face of a Thug thing going on. Which is an interesting design choice for a player character, but I'm still on the fence about it overall, and I hope an option to pick the MC's gender will still be available (and hopefully with the same design quirk; can't recall many—or any—female characters that fall into that trope, to be honest). The starters are kind of disappointing (where's my plant Digimon?sad), but I'd probably go with Gotsumon even though it's my least favorite of the three in that line-up. Gotsumon has more interesting evolutions compared to the other two to me and hopefully the game kind of reflects that.

Going by the screenshots, it seems like they're trying to bring around some of the more lesser used Digimon, which is good, since I was worried there going to be a too much of a focus on anime-only main character Digimon (as well as a hundred Garurumon and Greymon variants) when people said that the number had increased for the sequel.

Aside from Dagomon and Crescemon, the new Digimon that I see are Golemon (hopefully that means BanchoGolemon will be in, along with the other three Bancho Digimon who aren't Leomon), a black version of Unimon (never seen it before; I thought ShimaUnimon was the only Unimon variant; but it could just be Unimon with a darker palette because it's night in that screenshot), Strikedramon, Funbeemon (<3), Catch Mamemon, and what looks like the wings of ShineGreymon Burst Mode. The only ones I can't make out are the ones in the yellow screenshot, but it looks like Golemon and Unimon again.

Hacker's Memory is coming to Europe and the US in 2018.

According to the Bamco Europe twitter, Cyber Sleuth won't be a pack-in title which might mean that the localized PS4 version might get the new Hacker's Memory Digimon as DLC or not at all, who knows.

This evolution FAQ clear up a lot of the mystique around Digimon World 1, such as how to digivolve properly, what care mistakes are, how to raise and lower weight, etc. Tiredness, sickness, and losing battles not being care mistakes were only discovered 17 years after the game came out, and Herculeskabuterimon's exact requirements (55 weight, no mistakes, no battles) also stood undiscovered for years.

I wonder if the more recent games will be similarly plumbed for information.
