And to watch.

If it’s really as dirty as he makes it out to be, I wonder what it could be? The already referenced “Pillow Talk” by Sylvia (Robinson)? One of the few people to have been a one-hit wonder twice (she was the Sylvia of Mickey and Sylvia, they of the 50s smash “Love Is Strange”), incidentally.

Quick, somebody think of some one hit wonders that are dirty.

Not entirely sure if it's a one hit wonder but "Freak Like Me" by Adina Howard is the only thing that comes to mind.

Wait, really? Oh, wow, didn't even recognize it was the same voice when I listened to "Pillow Talk".

Could be I Touch Myself, or Stacy's Mom, or The Bad Touch. While their one hit ("Pepper") isnt really dirty, an episode on the Butthole Surfers could be fun as well and really interesting.

Oh god, it's probably gonna be I Touch Myself.

Come on, just look at the fucking title of that song.

Though I'd like to see him tackle the Butthole Surfers too. They're considered one of the greatest alt rock bands of all time.

I was thinking “Love Won’t Let Me Wait” by Major Harris, on account of the anonymous woman faking an orgasm on the backing track, but he’d already had hits as the leader of the Delfonics, so that rules him out.

So...yeah, probably “I Touch Myself.” And I can vouch for the Divinyls as a much more interesting act than Donna Lewis. They should have been huge!

Well, they should have had more than just the one hit, anyways.

I love how one of the comments on that video is someone saying "Anyone born after 1985 should be embarrassed." No, sir, you should be embarrassed for being such a defener.

That's a pretty solid power pop tune, though.

[up] Quick, someone screencap that comment and post it on r/lewronggeneration!

As far as the next OHW goes... I'm thinking maybe "Because I Got High" by Afroman or "My Neck, My Back" by Khia.

Oh god, it's probably gonna be I Touch Myself.

The funny thing about I Touch Myself is that it's way more tame than the title would imply. None of the other lyrics are all that suggestive.

You're the one who makes me come runnin'/ You're the sun who makes me shine/ When you're around, I'm always laughin'/ I want to make you mine

I close my eyes and see you before me/ Think I would die if you were to ignore me/ A fool could see just how much I adore you/ I'd get down on my knees, I'd do anything for you

"Makes me come runnin'," "I'd get down on my knees," those seem pretty suggestive.

I was thinking it was gonna be The Bad Touch myself because every line in that song is cleverly constructed dirty talk but Stacy's Mom and I Touch Myself are good candidates too.

...Hell it could even be "Barbie Girl" because all of Aqua's songs were dirty, innuendo filled songs about sex

A lot of people keep thinking "Stacy's Mom", and as much as I'd love to see it highlighted (because Fountains of Wayne are a fantastic band, and if I remember correctly, Todd's mentioned in a podcast that Welcome Interstate Managers is one of his favorite albums), I don't think it's gonna be the next OHW, since, well, if you look at the lyrics, it's less dirty and more flirtatious, playful, and jokey.

That is true. Fortunately, that doesn't prevent it from being an upcoming OWH, even if it doesn't seem to be a likely candidate for the next one. Fingers crossed.

So it's probably either I Touch Myself or Bad Touch (the latter he talked about before in one of his videos IIRC)

I still don't see why Aqua having one other minor hit in the US after Barbie Girl (Lollipop [Candy Man] IIRC) completely disqualifies them from being on OHW considering Barbie Girl completely eclipses everything else they've ever done and also considering the first band he covered - a-ha - wasn't even a one hit wonder either.

While I'm sad it'll never happen, I can understand why there would never be an episode on Land Down Under since Men At Work has two Monster Hits (Land Down Under, Who Can It Be Now?) and plenty of other hits/charting songs (Dr Heckyll and Mr Jive, It's a Mistake, Be Good Johnny, Everthing I Need, Overkill and High Wire). AFAIK Aqua only had one charting song in the US after Barbie Girl and it's pretty much faded away in the collective conscious. While "Who Can It Be Now?" is still fairly respected and remembered

Because it's not their only other hit, either. Their single "Dr. Jones" (which to be fair, did much better in EU than in US) charted #20 at Billboard Hot 100.

Also that song is vastly superior to "Barbie Girl".

I wonder how many other minor hits you need to have to not be considered a 1 Hit Wonder by Todd Standards (only one other minor hit? Had he ever said?)

You know, a "Top 10 One Hit Wonders I Will Never Do (Unless you pay me to/even if you paid me to)" wouldn't be a bad idea for a top 10 Todd could do.

(Also re: Stacy's Mom. Would it be considered another Modeste Mouse/Frank Zappa/Jimi Hendrix sitch for Fountains of Wayne where they're technically a One Hit Wonder yet successful/influential enough on other charts not to be really counted as one?)

I think it's just a matter of scope, how much the one biggest hit eclipses everything else vs how much of a legitimate impact they have.

It would probably be helpful if Todd put up a general guideline of what he would accept for One Hit Wonderland subjects.

I mean, despite "What's Up" by the 4 Non Blonds being one of the Archetypical One Hit Wonders out there, he would still probably never do it because it would just be 14 minutes of incomprehensible screaming and suffering

Well, that's something more to do with Todd's personal tastes than with the song's status as the band's one hit, so it might not comply with the hypothetical guidelines.
