The movie? Pretty fun. Nothing great aside from the visuals for the robots, but it was a good solid movie.
It was fun.
That is really all you can say, it wasn't incredible, but it was a ton of fun.
Also, it would make a perfect video game.
Go play Kentucky Route Zero. Now.This is one of the few franchises with a good excuse to shoehorn motion control into absolutely every installment. Too bad the 360 version is for the vanilla console.
Fairly fun. Go in hoping for something like Rocky but with robots, and you'll have a good idea.
Would anyone count Atom as a Stone Wall or a Determinator?
Also, since someone asked, Wings of Icarus is not in the movie. Which is a shame, it's better than the regular soundtrack.

Fight smart, not fair.I'd say Atom is a mix of Determinator and Gradual Grinder. His speed is one of his major advantages (which makes it hard for me to think of him as a Stone Wall, and in the Zeus fight one of the things Charlie used to his advantage in the end was turtling by simply blocking all of the bigger bot's attacks in order to wear Zeus down.
I'm guessing this might very well become a key plot point for the sequel that already being written. If someone could combine the durability of a sparring bot with modern generation tech, it wouldn't be difficult for someone to quickly render Atom genuinely obsolete.

I'd say he counts as a Stone Wall. He isn't as good at crushing or snapping off parts as 'conventional' fighters and he in turn doesn't get damaged as badly. Charlie's early statement indicates that he was supposed to be a damage sponge, being an interactive training dummy.
I think there's technically builds of Stone Wall that have some speed, dodge speed at least. I don't think I ever saw him as fast, he was just small enough that he had speed compared to larger, heavier robots. It comes with the territory of being low mass.
Fight smart, not fair.Supermega awesome cool. It's a Cliché Storm, but it makes you realize why they were Cliche in the first place. The 'bots looked frikkin' sweet and it reeked like a Shonene. It was super-mega popcorn fun!
Let's make a TCG!Well, it's in its second week on top of the box office.
Good Lord.
I suppose I would enjoy it if I did get my butt in the theater, but my first impression of it wasn't too great. Also, here I am, someone who supports original properties and wants to see more original characters invading the theaters, and yet, this ONE example only uses cliches found in 80's movies?
Because the 90's just don't matter.
Cracked called this the worst movie idea ever. Did they even hear about Bucky Larson: Born To Be A Star or What's Your Number?
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/This is a popcorn flick with better than average character interaction (relative to the 'genre'). Bay's Transformers managed to omit the better interaction and every installment still had hordes of viewers.
Can we really be surprised at how well this film is doing?
Disney had TV spots out ten months in advance. It's no surprise it's doing well.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/This was also one of the few movies I've seen an audience really get into.
Just watched this movie. The movie was a big damn Cliché Storm.
Fucking AWESOME Cliché Storm, that is.
At some point, I grabbed my little brother, who was sitting right next to me, and his hands and just repeated Atom's motion and wow, that was the most fun movie viewing period.
I'm a (socialist) professional writer serializing a WWII alternate history webnovel. And the child actor was so good to!
Let's make a TCG!Rock 'em Sock 'em Robots: The Movie?
Do their heads go "BOING!" when they lose?

Don't you try anything, you baked good you.Saw the movie today (in a double bill with The Big Year).
The opening scenes are terrible. Jackman's character is a clear cut case of This Loser Is You and a complete asshole who bites off much more he can chew, no less. The son is a bit annoying early on but gets better when we realizes how smart he really is (seriously, if he said jump then people would ask how high).
But once they start boxing, it gets good. Obviously, the entire plot is Rocky with robots (the end is even almost the same) but it's an enjoyable movie. The visual effects are excellent (it's nice to see some animatronics for the robots) and the atmosphere has a very Rollerball-type feel to it. The only things I would have asked for were a more likeable Jackman and a shorter run time (127 minutes is 20 minutes too long for this type of movie).
Also, the jerkass Texan seemed to be a bit of a Karma Houdini. We never see him get his comeuppance and he never gave the money back to Charlie and Max.

More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/What do you mean? He gets his ASS kicked by the Bruthas. Also, anyone notice he fought Jackman back in X-Men Origins Wolverine as The Blob?

Let's make a TCG!We never see it happen. He could have paid them off and gotten away with everything.
Another thing I noticed about that whole scene: with 1:5 odds, he would have lost money no matter what. A $100,000 bet would have gotten him only $20,000 had he won.

More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/Seriously? You don't see a Discretion Shot when its coming? He called them "homies" for gods' sake; that due was getting his ass kicked.
Let's make a TCG!But he had money. He possibly could have paid off the $500,000 plus interest not to beat him up.
Also, his right hand men may have been outside the arena to protect his ass.
More Buscemi at http://forum.reelsociety.com/Yeah but it was implied they beat him up or at least jacked his cash; ergo, he is not a Karma Houdini. besides, hoe would his men know were he was?
Let's make a TCG!
So, how was it?
I've got new mythological machinery, and very handsome supernatural scenery. Goodfae: a mafia web serial
